Capital punishment is typically reserved for the most heinous crimes, such as premeditated murder or acts of terrorism. Aggravating factors could include the cruelty of the crime, while mitigating factors might involve the defendant's mental state or lack of prior criminal history. Oddly enough, the financial cost of capital punishment is also often higher than life imprisonment due to lengthy trials, appeals and the costs associated with maintaining death row facilities. Lastly, the irreversible nature of the death penalty raises concerns about executing innocent individuals can influence the decision to opt for life imprisonment instead especially in more liberal areas. That's not the case in Texas. By the way, it's a moot discussion. Colorado abolished capital punishment in 2020 for crimes committed after July 1st of that year... The nation is almost equally split on the matter...24 states still have capital punishment, 23 do not and three have a moratorium on executions at the moment.

From a philosophical standpoint I don't understand life in prison with hundreds of extra years versus the death penalty. Seems cruel to the offender and unsatisfying for victims. Just kill them. What am I missing about the utility of this punishment? I'd vote for that. With extra penalties if you hurt someone.

Second offense, permanent loss of license. You get to be dumb once. After that it's intentional.

Excellent. “It’s a foregone conclusion that at a minimum, this guy is going to be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The only question is how many more years there will be in addition to that there will be, and our office’s goal is to get every single of of them,” 23rd Judicial District Attorney George Brauchler said.

I'm thinking it could take the Hornet one circle....

Yep, or in other states it’s just laziness…”oh they’re the incumbent? Sure, why not”

Yeah, well, people vote for those lenient Superior Court Judges. And they vote for in support of the Appellate Judges nominated by the governor. It's the "will of the people"... at least it is here in the DPRK.
-
DUI/DWI penalties, especially for repeat offenders and first time offenders resulting in severe bodily harm/death, need to be multiple orders of magnitude worse. It is despicable how little punishment DUI offenders receive. Screw all the judges who just throw them back into the world with zero fucks given.

No please, try and oversell this. How many times did Biden or Obama deploy guard and active duty troops to the border? How many more times than that did state governors deploy troops to shore up the problem of migration during those administrations? We have the border mission, you know what it’s doing? Providing Grey Eagles to law enforcement who are trying to do something about cartel drug smuggling. God forbid we use our training hours to do that instead of bore holes in the sky and stare at the dirt in a restricted area. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Honestly what you quoted made me go, “hmmm,” but after reading the entirety I’m all about 95% of it without hesitation. Like you though, I am skeptical of the obvious point you’re highlighting; the gov best tread very lightly. FWIW, my “5%” throw-shit-at-a-wall number is because I’m accounting for the overall theme of the message (I understand one could argue it’s literally more than 5%)

The DUI shit drives me crazy. I was young and stupid and might possibly have driven when I shouldn't have. I grew out of it quickly. I saw a court case on YT where the lady who was 40+ was in court for her TENTH DUI. She was pleading for leniency. Think how often that bitch drives drunk if she has gotten caught 10 times.

The fight against the Houthis is getting ugly. Today the Truman came under fire and had to take evasive action. In doing so An F-18 that was under tow fell overboard taking the tow vehicle with it. US Navy loses $60 million jet at sea after it fell overboard from aircraft carrier Maneuver kill? -
