  1. As a bomber nav I am OFFENDED.... that somebody took down the sign. Nellis has ALWAYS been home of the fighter pilot. Fuck sensitivity. Let the people who need a hug have their own base and label it "Home of the whiners." Make it an AETC base, or maybe the Academy.

  3. Non military here. I joined this sight to get insight into the fighter pilots world and I think I've gotten a bit of it. I am glad to have come across this post, but it seems the OP needs a brick wall to fall on his head. I cant imagine that the problem is any more complex than what was said in the boss letter. My dad was a poor country boy drafted during Vietnam. He hated the Army. As a kid, when my he told me I would hate the military, I couldnt understand how. A hearing loss prevented me from finding out, but over the years I have learned why many feel that way. Not that I wouldnt join even today if I could. I don't doubt that hard work and sacrifice builds character, but perhaps the military needs to move into the present and lose some of the retarded sacrificial attitude that would drive commanders to subject personnel fresh from combat deployments to readiness inspections and make trading a potentially better civilian life for a military career, a little more worth it. Just an outsiders opinion.

  4. Dont get me wrong, I completely agree, but it seems that the majority of the problems are represented in the letter. The fact that he is on a forum asking for input after reading that and doesnt mention any efforts he has made to correct the issues discussed or even acknowledge the validity of the problems mentioned just seems little uncommitted and hollow. Even from an outside perspective this issue seems huge. It seems to me any committed effort would see some kind of official, service wide request for input. Something far more substantial than asking on a forum. And it seems there was enough complaints in the letter that he could say he has taken action to resolve at least one.

  5. Bringing ground CC's up is a huge benefit and has really helped how we integrate with their operations. Having their boss sit next to you and see his guys from our perspective has gone a long ways towards developing TTPs and trust in the relationship. I'll also add that I've yet to see a single seat aircraft as capable as a multiseat aircraft. There is simply too much going on for one person to keep track; I've witnessed so many epic fails of dudes with one seat and one sensor and 1-3 radios thinking he can manage more than he can, or, whats worse, thinking what he has access to is the only piece that matters and needs managing. 2 seats is a minimum, and personally I'd prefer the other guy not be a pilot since pilots all like doing pilot stuff and that last thing we need is two people focusing on the same instruments. Back seater needs to be a CSO/WSO.

  6. I guess I'll lump myself in with those new-age SNAPS, but you guys realize that Nellis has non-fighter units that actually deploy right? In fact, in the 5 years that I spent at Nellis, I can't remember one fighter unit that did deploy. Home of the Fighter Pilot? I guess, but meanwhile I (helo pilot) spent 5 years there working, deploying, sweating and bleeding (watching friends bleeding) getting the job done. I don't care for the PC culture of the Air Force; I don't think everyone is a warrior, and I do think Robin Olds is a bad-ass, but I think Nellis AFB is more than the "Home of the Fighter Pilot." As I was.
