So far we haven't had anyone killed in combat aviation by running into a pred, but we've had numberous guys killed for other reasons. So you and your buddy are 100% wrong. I appreciate and agree with about 90% of your overall points. However, I take issue with your analysis of my job and the risks associated with it. I can see you've thought this through, but the weakest part of your case is your huge assumptions about flying manned aircraft in theater. So as sharp as you are, when you start making broad points based on assumptions you look like a clown. A clown who can't understand brevity. I recommend cutting the 'my drive home fromt he office is as risky as your flight in theater' aspect from your overall argument if you want to be taken seriously.2 points

We should be free to discuss anything within the confine of an academic setting, using logic and reason to decide the merits of various COAs. Even disproving an absurd idea using reason without emotion is a valuable exercise. It teaches people to consider what they hear, challenge their own assumptions, and ultimately strengthens our resolve. Political correctness is the anathema of learning. If you really want to teach problem solving and outside the box thinking, you must first teach people to be comfortable hearing any possible suggestion, no matter how absurd. Hopefully that explains to you the benefits gained from an open and frank discussion about any subject.2 points

Good thing "they" didn't declare "Communism" a religion. Had they done that, we'd be falling over ourselves to give rights to the communists.1 point

A refund is a return of money paid in. All immigrants (legal and otherwise) can apply for an ITIN. While fraud is apparent as shown in the news piece it's also ignoring the SS and medicare taxes paid by illegals that they cannot collect on. A tax refund should stop when someone's tax liability reaches 0. No one should have a negative tax liability. Or better yet scrap the damn income tax and go to a national sales tax with monthly prebates.1 point

I heard "not for attribution" once. Even as a 1Lt, I was smart to understand that this meant "for attribution". Why is ned kelly wearing an english flag?1 point

DOD: "man, we're doing a lot of 'studies' these days, we should do a study on how much these studies are costing us" GAO: "oh, you're doing a study on studies? we need oversight on your study"... "hmmm, your study on studies is no good, here's our study on your study on studies" DOD: "you're right, we did a bad job of studying the studies that we do" https://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/05/this-is-not-a-joke-government-issues-study-of-a-study-about-studies/ Apparently, the fiscal crisis has yet to impact anyone in the D.C. area too dramatically yet.1 point

Hi everyone, this is my first post on a great forum, I'm a military aviation photographer in the UK and specialize in taking photos of low level aircraft, particularly in the Mach Loop or as you guys call it "the Roundabout". In fact in June last year I was fortunate enough to fly through the loop myself in an RAF Hawk so know just how the experience is first hand. Since 2008 I have photographed over 20 different F-15s out of Lakenheath flying through these valleys and have taken some awesome photos so I though I'd post them on here in the hope that some of the aircrews may recognise themselves - if you do then drop me a pm and I'll send over some high res copies. And if you are stationed at Lakenheath at the moment then maybe, perhaps maybe, you would be kind enough to perhaps arange a "photoshoot" in the Roundabout sometime - pm me if this is of interest to you. I would love to also hear any stories that you have of flying the Roundabout and also the "Stonehenge" tour (Stonehenge, Lands End I believe). From an enthusiasts point of view, to hear an American voice come on freq 278.000 gets the pulse racing, and then to hear the unmistakable noise and then the shadow of an approaching F-15 before finally trying to get the photo that will make the trip worthwhile. Over to you guys - and thanks from the UK... Alex1 point

What ever happened to his request for input from USAFE fighter pilots? What meaningful changes did he make? Oh wait, he didn't make any? You mean nothing at all changed? Shocking.1 point

Hang out with some hooligans causing trouble during the Olympics in London. Take the Chunnel to France. Get thrown out of a casino in Monte Carlo. Climb Mt. Etna when smoke is coming out of the top. Get a huge bottle of ouzo and watch the meltdown of the cradle of civilization in Athens (sit near the window if you feel lucky). Strudel with cream sauce outside in Berlin. Go skiing in Dubai. Thailand has already been covered by others. Apply same logic to Phillippines. Spit on the street in Singpore and see if anyone notices. Buy a suit in Hong Kong. Go to an Apple factory in China. Eat kimchi chigae and drink 4 bottles of soju in Seoul--then go to noraebang and sing the Flintsones song. Ride the subway in Tokyo. Go to Giovanni's shrimp truck on the North Shore---Matsumoto's shave ice for dessert---get the beans for a topping---trust me. Wrap it up with salmon and halibut fishing in Alaska--insist that your 100LB fish cooler wrapped with duct tape is a carry on. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.1 point
