Anyone else feel an overwhelming urge to punch that dude in the face standing on the vertical stab?18 points

In respect to those who perished, off-topic comments concerning procurement and similar issues were removed... To the crew!5 points

That is a problem that I would like to have. It's hard to place a value on free agency, but it's worth more than $100,000 to me.4 points

OK, the next person that posts FOUO or sensitive information in this thread are going to be joining the two that are already sitting in the corner! Knock it off!2 points

And we wonder where the queep comes from. In other news a 135 crew perished in a crash today in Kyrgystan, take a moment and reflect on your brothers and sisters in arms; hug your wife and kiss your kids because every time we slip the surley bonds folks, we gamble with those very things...2 points

Knowing Krgys cops he was probably looking for a survivor to charge a landing fee or shake down the photographer.2 points

What's rough about this crash (don't get me wrong thier all tough to take) is that no matter what you do in fixed wing aviation you feel like you get to know the tanker crews...especially over the course of a deployment where you get gas from the same guys several times a week. They become friends in a hurry... God speed guys...2 points

I don't think it does. Just because loads checked good at previous checks does not mean something did not break loose...2 points

Cheers to our loadsmashers who go the extra mile, and prevent our families from seeing videos like this (assuming it was cargo related, as I suspect it was). You dudes don't get enough credit for what you do.2 points

Yeah, but until we know a cause, its tough to take that amount of support away from the guys who need it in the AO without some sort of idea if age/mx/ops is at fault. Grounding would accomplish nothing if you don't have a reason to suspect recurrance. That being said, the pics point to it being broken up and on fire in flight. Not knowing anything about what might cause that to happen to a tanker, I'd think there are many possible causes to this and its gonna take a while to pinpoint.1 point

The River Rats are already working to get in contact with the CAOC/FLO's to establish 529 accounts for any children left behind. I'll post info when/if we get permission from surviving spouses to proceed. Cheers, Cap-101 point

More than parachutes being at issue, the DoD is flying these planes DECADES beyond their original lifespan. 12 years of constant combat air refueling has taken the life out of these planes. This was a 1963 model. 1963. And 1963 is a relatively new bird. Godspeed to the crew and a toast.1 point

McConnell jet. I have credible facebook rumors about where the crew was from but I'm not sharing them here. Parachutes removed as stated to "save fuel" (go f%ck yourself Gen Lichte). I'm gonna go find that dude standing on the tail and kick him in the balls. Flying tomorrow, guessing its going to be a quiet flight. I knew the one of the dudes that went down on the MC-12, now this. FML. A toast.1 point

Chutes came off the jet years ago to save weight.  to the crew....NKAWTG! I'm getting really sick of reading about mishaps lately.1 point

Considering the current topic in this thread is male homosexuality... I hope we never get to see that tag earn its keep.1 point

Everytime I open this thread I hope the (NSFW) tag earns its keep. So far it has failed.1 point

It is always mildly entertaining to listen to someone who thinks their generation or culture is on the cutting edge of human enlightenment, when all they are really doing is repeating history. If you think this is the first time mainstream society has decided it is hip to be gay, think again. Of course, you'll have to dig into "the ass end of history" (no pun intended, I'm simply quoting you) to find them, but we aren't blazing any new trails here.1 point

Odierno's behavior was wrong. Regardless of what party the d-bag is doing the questioning, it is the military's role to answer factually and unemotionally. Se the one star calling Sen Boxer "Ma'am" for the correct TTP. Here is where I start to put my spin on it vice just the facts: I believe Odierno was p.o.'d, but because Big Green handled DCGS-A badly and have been called out repeatedly by Congress in general and Hunter in particular. Odierno doesn't like having to explain himself. I also believe he has political aspirations in his not too distant future with a big D after his name. This footage will be in campaign ad... edited to spell DCGS-A correctly1 point

Looked to me like a military leader standing up to a politician. Couldn't we use more of that right now?1 point
