Gents, Happy 4th; thank you for your service. Stay sharp, fly safe, and next time you get an altimeter setting from Approach, remember this:4 points

Nope, they didn't have that info. It seemed as if this is definitely going to happen, but the worker bees are still feverishly coming up with a timeline, plan, and details. HAF/Jt Staff for the top folks. NAF/MAJCOM are places to move bodies. Plus, "MAJCOM staff next" is really just a weak and meaningless push on the whole. If you have things like "Sq cmd a must," "#1 pick for cmd," etc. on your reports you're doing alright. Why is it like this? Why do I care/know? Trust me, I'm crying on the inside.2 points

Anyone want to staple their eyeballs? Anyone want to set their pubes on fire & put em out with a screwdriver? Anyone want to take a 720 to BIAP with no TDY pay?2 points

Shut up dude. You're trying way too hard to impress the "cool kids" with this post. But I'll bite. 1) No I don't think our boy has that mentor - he said he's at a joint gig. Other services don't always get our secret code. And even if he does - the game changes all the time, particularly at the FGO level. I've got excellent mentors who are straight up with me that they don't know what's going on with this stuff sometimes. 2) Nice quote about core values at the end. They are clearly important to you as you laugh behind other people's backs as you cite in your post. zb1 point

This^ When I hear stories like this I just think about how the media F's up aviation stories. I know as much about cops and their training/procedures as the average cop knows about flying. It pisses me off to hear dumbass yocals and reporters giving all of their expertise on why/how an airplane crashed within minutes of an incident. Same thing here.....there is probably more to the story.1 point

It's a difficult situation, man; and none of us were there. All we have is a bunch of hearsay because no cop in his right mind is going to indict himself. There are a lot of variables we aren't privy to. If I were this dude's brother, would I be upset that he was killed? Absolutely. If I were one of the police officer's kids, would I say they made the right move? Of course I would; because I would care more about my parent than I would care about some drunk guy. I'm well aware of the fact that cops are conditioned to protect themselves, and conditioning, by definition, is mutually exclusive to judgment. So I don't necessarily blame them for their reaction, but it's not like we're not talking about South Central here either; it was Long Beach. Realistically, my man, this whole situation has some pretty deep philosophical and political implications. I know where you're coming from, and I'm partially inclined to agree with you. The other half of me says that this is a litmus test that gives us a lot of information about where we're at in society these days. Either way, it sucks.1 point

Yup. Who knows what really happened? I've seen enough now that my knee jerk reaction is no longer to trust the first version of events I hear given by the party most interested in self preservation.1 point

Don't get a dog until you are married and have someone who can properly take care of it when you are gone. UPT is the worst time to have to worry about a dog. My buddy had one while going through training...it ran away1 point

It's a horrible idea. Horrible. 12 hour days are standard. Add travel time, etc and your pup won't be able to go out for 13-ish hour stretches every day. Which is a foul. After UPT, you're going to be deployed/TDY all the time. Sometimes with little/no notice. That's just life in the AF. What are you going to do with the dog then? You can't just count on driving the dog over to your parents house while you're gone...you have no idea where you're going to live. And do not--do fucking not--be the asshole who asks his buddy's wife to take care of your dog for you while you're at work/TDY/deployed. Until you figure out your life, not just during UPT but after, forget about the dog.1 point

I don't have a dog in the faith-or-works fight. I was raised in the Lutheran church, and one of the major tenets was "faith alone". I spent years believing this, studying this, and defending this. I'm just saying, the bible provides plenty of ammo to both sides. I argued this for days with my Catholic buddy. It's only one of a few dozen places where the bible has contradictory guidance. Ultimately, I really don't care, as long as we aren't using the bible as our source for legal rulings and legislative precedent. Someone said that the bible talking about slavery and keeping women silent was a reflection of the time period it was written in. I'd agree, but that means that all the homosexual passages are also a reflection of the time period it was written in. Either you think that the bible provides guidance, or you don't. Too often, people tend to pull out the one or two verses that suit their argument, and claim they represent God's will.1 point

It's sad that people are forced to ask these questions on an internet message board rather than just being able to ask their boss. On the other hand, it's awesome that this board exists to answer questions like this. I don't know what I'd do without bops.1 point

No, not me. I wasn't trying to relate it back to the original topic, just boobs.1 point

Well, if their plan was to build a ballistic missile capable of reaching as far away as 3000 feet, I think they nailed it.1 point

The Bible doesn't "allow" any of the things you listed. You are referring to information in the Old Testament in which there were societies that practiced some (but not all) of the things you listed. Just because an event in the Bible has those types of behaviors in it, doesn't mean the Bible is condoning such behavior. Often the Old Testament is used as a contrast to what occurred after Christ was born, walked among us and died sacrificially for us. In the Old Testament, when someone sinned, they were required to atone for those sins by sacrificing an animal in the form of a burnt offering to God. The animal symbolically took on the sins of the person. The Bible contrasts such ancient practices with God's ultimate and final decision to deal with our sins by sending his Son to symbolically take on all our sins and die for us. I won't argue that many men and women have misused and misinterpreted the information in the Bible over the centuries and caused great suffering and pain. That's on them and not due to some defect in the Bible or it's real teachings. Try actually reading it.1 point
