  1. Split from Track Select thread so as to not have it be buried, with update on the article. Best part of the night was the student who got cancer....pulled from training for 15 months...beat cancer...came back, kicked ass, got a Raptor. Fucking awesome.

  5. Dear SARC at my base: At your next presentation to the Wing, are you going to have a PowerPoint slide to retract the previous slide you showed during the SARC Stand-down in which you drug this officer's name through the mud as a sex offender? How are you planning on wording your apology for jumping to conclusions without all of the information, and slandering this officer to 100s of personnel, including enlisted Airmen? https://www.sfgate.co...cer-4671899.php Yet again, guilty until proven innocent...

  6. It's this thing we use to keep the sun out of our eyes because it hurts to wear sunglasses with headsets. We keep them stored in the galley right beside the coffee maker and the waffle iron. All you have to do is snap your fingers and point outside and the Nav jumps up and retrieves them.

  11. I don't remember what year it was but the AF got rid of reserve commissions altogether and now all AD officers are regular. My commissioning papers state "reserve" because I was ROTC-- but now, no officer on AD (not sure, but probably except for guard reserve dudes on AD orders) is a reserve officer. As far as sanctuary goes, I would say the title 10 just hasn't been updated to reflect the fact AF AD officers don't hold reserve commissions anymore. I think the key text of title 10 is that it states, "An officer who is retained in an active status under subsection (a) or (b) is an additional number to those otherwise authorized" We've all learned about congressional end strength the past few years........ which is why I think that text is key - regardless of end strength, an officer in this situation cannot be booted because of end strength. Subsection (a) and (b) basically say that the officer cannot be taken off of active duty without his consent after 18 yrs until he hits 20 yrs (letting him retire) Obviously, it's a legal document and maybe there's some lawyers lurking that can decipher all of the "fine print". Overall, however, I think it is pretty clear that as long as an officer hits 18 years and doesn't F up, that officer gets to retire regardless of AF "force shaping" or whatever is going on at the time. Doubtful. You would have to choose between retiring and 7-day opting in that case. Edit: by deciding to retire you'd have to do the 365 in this scenario.

  13. Show me where the Vatican says this or just admit that you're wrong. Unless you want to argue that the President himself initiated and ran Fast and Furious, targeting Tea Party Groups, tapped phone lines, dismissed a sexual assualt case, messed up my tax returns, and on and on.

  16. I seriously doubt it...the slide shown to the leadership for the brief that I attended had a picture of Lt Col Wilkerson, and that of course after his case was thrown out. Just like in the GZ case, presenting facts does not always help push the agenda. Stirring up fear and emotions, rather, do.

  18. I was TDY abot 2 months ago, and while I was bored one day I stumbled upon a series of YouTube videos that a guy made showing how to strip the stock of a Mosin-Nagant and then refinish it with linseed oil. I never liked the shellac on my Mosin-Nagant, so I thought I would give it a try. Well I did so yesterday and I think it turned out ok. My particular Mosin-Nagant is a 1929 hex receiver that was originally a dragoon model, but then it was converted to the 91/30 standard that the Soviets pretty much used after 1930. Here are the before pics: Here are the pics after I stripped the shellac but before I oiled the stock: Here is the finished product completely assembled: This was very easy to do, and it only took a few hours of my time yesterday. Overall, I am pleased with the finished product. I could have done a little better job with some of the stripping and then applying the oil, but it looks good. If I end up with another Mosin-Nagant I may do this again.

  20. Dude I will be nice, but just for one post. First, stop whining about traveling a lot and working long hours. You're not going to earn any sympathy here. I'm sure your travels don't routinely bring you to JATWISH. Second, don't plan on swapping airframes. You will need to get helos out of UPT. Airframe swaps are very rare and typically happen as a result of taking command of a mixed group/wing or going to a special school like TPS. Even then - way down the road and rare. Third, guard/res units will not cater to you. There are far more people interested than there are openings. You need to apply, show up and hang out with them and get an in. They have the luxury of choosing members from a lot of qualified applicants. You are the one doing the legwork. Drop the attitude and requests for respect. That kind of thin skin will not go far in the flying world.

  22. Well we're going to have to keep adding people until you can land on speed, in the zone, with the gear down, and at the correct airport.
