I guess someone has to kick in the doors of people the NSA is listening to. With tanks. In a residential neighborhood. Hopefully the get the right house. Surely they'd never kick down the wrong door with one of these things, right? They certainly wouldn't shoot an innocent man's dog after raiding the wrong apartment. And even if they did kill the family dog after busting into the wrong house, they'd never handcuff the kids and sit them next to the dog's corpse. I guess you just have a lot more faith in our government than I do. After watching the IRS used as a weapon against political enemies, and after seeing the NSA turned on every American who uses the internet or a cell phone, I'm a little wary of pairing those agencies up with this kind of firepower and putting it all in Eric Holder's hands. Call me paranoid if you want, but the few isolated terrorist attacks don't warrant the kind of power we've turned over to the government.3 points

It's easy math for me. The Air Force has never sent a finance school / personnel school washout to UPT.3 points

I think that's the first correct, concise, SA enhancing comm you've added to the forum in a while. -And since you're not rated, SA = situational awareness.2 points

I remember sitting on the ramp at Kadena on headset and listening to a Birmingham KC-135 griping on the command post freq about how they'd been waiting on fuel for "over an hour" and requesting an updated ETA. All I could do was chuckle and transmit "Welcome to Kadena".2 points

It takes me less time to log on to the crappy computer outside of ETAR AMCC and print my own paperwork than wait on them to do it. I simply call them, sit at the computer, get my sh!t, then call them back to let them know we're on our way and to please pass our block 10 to MOC. Worthless is an understatement.1 point

There is nothing stating that he didn't uphold air force policy, he was fired for not saying he though homosexuality/marriage/ect. was OK, when asked by the SQ/CC. Again its the thought police, he did his job and from the article was objective when it came to dealing with the young MTI, however the SQ/CC is all about diversity only when she agrees with it, that my friend is not diversity, it is hypocritical discrimination.1 point

I've also had bosses grab a few hours rest while ops were on standby, but I've never had one leave the JOC and play Xbox when there was a potential for anything to happen. Also, WTF is Reggie Love even doing at the WH when an op of this scale is happening?1 point

I get what you're saying, but this wasn't exactly just "some op"... it was "THE OP"!!! Add this story to everything that was said about him just going to bed and not getting updates about Benghazi and it just looks terrible from a PR point of view. Bill Belichick doesn't pop his head in the locker room an hour before the Super Bowl and tell the team, "Hey you guys got this one... I'll see you sometime in the 4th Qtr" and then go play spades with his buddy Bon Jovi.1 point

Ok, let's walk the dog on this one.... I'm assuming he wasn't out playing cards while the actual hit was going down. During the HOURS leading up to the raid, what EXACTLY do you expect POTUS to do? Would you have rather him be in the Situation Room calling the shots for an op 5000 miles away? Or looking over everyone's shoulder asking for updates every 2 minutes? I don't agree with a lot of his policies, but I don't think it's a bad thing he was able to walk away and clear his head while he let his experts run the op. One of the best commanders I had downrange (O-6) impressed me by his ability to do just that. Just because there was an op going on, he didn't feel the need to hover over everyone in the JOC. There were times when he would come in and say "You guys have got this - I'm gonna go catch a couple hours of sleep." The guy was working 20 hours a day, and knew he could be a better asset and leader if he broke away and rested a little instead of just watching the action, and he had guys he trusted to take care of things in his absence. If something needed his attention, we knew where to find him. So, that being said, the POTUS breaking away to clear his head for a couple hours leading up to such a huge event doesn't bother me.1 point

I think GC has a valid point when looking at the individual, if their records have DGs and #1 strats and annual awards then there is no reason I shouldn't think that individual is a strong performer. However, to be able to rack and stack throughout that person's year group I would certainly have to dig a little deeper. Even when comparing apples to apples there will be some variability. As a former UPT IP I can tell you that not all DGs are created equal, so the argument that a UPT DG is an auto-winner over some other tech school DG can only hold so much weight. In the grand scheme of things there probably are some people on an O-4 board who lose a school slot or even a promotion because someone applies the logic implied in GC's post but ultimately the playing field starts to level out (to some extent) as people get wing, staff, etc level positions where you get racked and stacked across AFSCs more so than when a young pup.1 point

just got back from a month-long vacation flying Space A (mostly)...a few tidbits for those looking to do it in the future... - As others have said, sign up for SMS. Seriously. The comm between TACC/the crew/the pax terminal is lacking, and it saved my ass a couple times. - As soon as you get leave, send a shotgun email to every pax terminal you can think of (google it for the list). The earlier, the better. - Get an AF lodging account to reserve rooms online; there were a couple instances where a phone call yielded no results but online did - Cross-check Pax terminal facebook pages and SMS, and set bingo dates. Your hotel/food/car costs may eventually exceed commercial air tickets. Good luck...you get what you pay for1 point

Don't you insult her like that! Read an interesting article in Rotor & Wing comparing this to the Sikorski X2. They mentioned that the X3 may not be able to handle crosswinds as well as a "traditional" compound helo design due to the fuselage blanking out one of the nacelles. Since the props provide the anti-torque in a hover, any null areas caused would significantly reduce performance. I have no idea if it is true or how the X3 performs with a crosswind, I just thought it was interesting.1 point

Evidently the threat facing the everyday Joe Q Public requires an MRAP. Therefore, I should have ARs, AKs and 30 round mags because my PD doesn't have any MRAPs. MPAP = Mine Resistant. Where are all the IEDs in America so that I can avoid them? Out punctuation1 point
