  1. This said "leader" was the one that retired in Jan of this year correct? It saddens me to know that this AF lets aviators like you go and make you sound criminal, when I bet you ask any of those pax or their families that you are heroes. Thanks to you and your Crews incredible airmanship (it may of had mistakes, but hell we are human we make those), you saved countless lives. I hope the young guys reading this (that means you AFROTC, OTS, USAFA guys) learn something from this. Humility and the balls to stand for what you believe is true leadership. If this was 30years + earlier you would have been awarded DFC's. Cheers to you brother ! Rounds are one me if I ever get the pleasure to cross paths with you.

  2. And of course, rather than being transparent about it, the air force leaves us to gossip and guess. I don't think the USAF cares about "flying related stuff" as long as the slides are green.

  3. I prefer just to use the term "more than 5 and less than 10" now

  4. I opened this and thought I was in the "What's wrong with the AF" thread.

  5. I imagine that if the US Airways Flight 1549 had been an air force airplane, Sullenburger would have been canned for taking off in a dangerous bird condition. Then he would have been raked over the coals because he and his FO didn't reference the landing with one or more engines inop, landing with erroneous airspeed indications, ditching, and and finally evacuation checklists before hitting the water. I imagine the scheduler would have laughed at him if he had said, "we're not going to go today because of the high probabilty of migratory bird patterns around the field." Well at least the AMC/CC got his golden parachute...

  6. For me, this incident (and others) demonstrates that the USAF (well, AMC at least) is really riding the edge of a wave of inexperience in the cockpit. Most flight departments wouldn't send their crews to do what the USAF does with the experience level the USAF operates with. It's a testament to our professionalism and attention to detail that we do it safely almost every day of the year. Major props for coming onto this forum. I noticed as I left my previous airframe that our squadron really didn't want to talk about the stuff we screwed up (and well all screwed up stuff in varying degrees) in order to save face or whatever. If nothing else, this is a good reminder that we're all one misplaced switch away from disaster (or potential disaster). Good job on saving the crew, the jet, and the pax.

  7. This goddamn job has turned into such a bait-n-switch. Timing and luck.. you nemesis of mine! This is what happens when you base your vocational aspirations on information off fuckin' 1980s military-themed movies....I shoulda been a dentist. fvck.

  8. And one more thing... when PA shows up with a camera and wants to film what you are doing upstairs, deny them! NEVER TALK TO THE MEDIA! (Thanks, Rainman) When's the next VSP?

  9. day man, thanks for coming forward on this one. You have been raked through the coals in this community as becoming the proverbial "snowman" PNF (PM or whatever we are calling it this week). I wasn't there. I haven't seen the report. I think you guys got suckered into a shit-storm. Since this occurrence, our safety sups and phase sims reek of fixes that AMC "leadership" has determined appropriate for a shitty radar system upgrade on their jets. You guys became victims to the APS 150 that artificially paints light rain as a torrential down-pour. After a certain point, one becomes numb to what that shitty radar shows. While I think some aspects of the CRM on this crew broke down, I can easily see how it happened. They've re-written section 7 of the dash one and given us some circuit breaker fixes for erroneous returns, but in the end it is still a marginal radar system that most of us tend to marginalize.

  10. All I'm saying is you can try your case in the court of public opinion, if you wish. You are already out of the military, proceed as you desire. Is the AIB out?

  11. Good stuff. I will echo that the briefing we received at a quarterly session was basically what 3-Holer said, the crew was dumb. The brief was lacking sufficient detail and I didn't learn anything. I try to learn as much from these things as I can so that I can improve as an avaitor. Sitting around swapping stories and gaining a better understanding of our limits and our aircraft is priceless. Thanks for sharing. Dear BaseOps Moderators: I pledge that we create a new discussion group called Safety. This topic is a great start. Out

  12. I think it's certainly a purer, truer, and more enjoyable ballpark experience.

  14. I don't give a shit that the school district thinks an air soft gun is a firearm, I give a shit that they think they can suspend a student for something that happens off their property or not while under their supervision.
