  1. I was going to list some of this stuff as well, but this is how things were back in the day in the early 2000s. So just because a series of cockbags, uncleverly disquised as "leaders," institute a bunch of stupid shit over the years that eventually get repealed, does not really make that an improvement. These changes kind of go along with the example that someone brought up before where you get a 10% pay cut and then several years later get a 10% pay raise. That's not really a raise or an improvement. Don't get me wrong, the Deid is actually a pretty good place now, and the positive impact that civilian clothes and no reflective belt douchebaggery or chiefs brings about cannot be overstated. It just never had to be that way in the beginning, so I can't chalk this stuff up as an overall long-term improvement.

  2. Dudes, While I sit here and drink my scotch, can't help but think of the bros that are downrange doing the mish'. Here...here. Thanks for the sacrifice. Cheers.

  4. Sure we do, it's called get to the slowest practical airspeed before punching. Got it, there's clearly situations where you don't have that luxury, and in those all we have is "risk acceptance," but nobody said flying fighters was low risk. I'm not advocating we should not continue to press for improvements to HMCS (for both capability and safety), but it's not a true statement to say we purposely wear a "helmet that will kill us" with zero risk mitigation.

  5. That's strange...the AFnet migration has happened to me twice inside the span of the last year and all it's ever done is prevent me from checking my email and shared drives on the domains I'm a part of. That is, of course, easily rectified within a 1-2 week timeframe...it takes time, after all, it's the first time we've done this...here. Sometimes I feel like other's desire to improve something than isn't actually broken is the real problem. One man's improvement is another man's irritation. We do this over and over until it's barely recognizable anymore. That said, I'm sure I'll look back 30 years later and remember the AF it the way my father looked back on his time in the army...Remember the good people, a few of the bad...the rest just is what it was, it was far from perfect, but it didn't really change the outcome all that much. Speaking of a CSAF: While I think it's good to reflect on all changes to see if they had their intended effect, there is very little changeable within a large organization that will bear immediate fruits that are substantive and/or important. I do not doubt that there are senior leaders that struggle to find them everyday. The problem is that those changes set in motion are rarely kept in motion once individuals move on. It's hard enough to champion change when it's your idea, it's much harder when it's another's. As far as what I think has improved? Not much. It's different, sure...but improved, not really. I don't particularly think it needs to either. If anything, I'd let the O-4 and O-5's that haven't had the pleasure have some of my deployments. Let's just revamp all of it...I'll write up a BBP...there, now it's time to PCS. You got the stick now, Bobby. *right in the trash can, too much work* This thread is not my favorite (although the fat kid falling through the long jump pit did make me smile), Bendy

  6. E-Pubs have their downside too. I very much like the convenience of searching, but so does the young guy who doesn't actually know what is on those other 300+ pages. I think it has led to an unintended lowering of GK among aircrew (especially young aircrew), but agree that overall it has more pluses than minuses.

  7. The next 5 min was mind numbingly painful. Pull out your goddamn smartphone that you probably left on for the whole flight. Figure out where you are since you have zero SA. Look at your FMS. Write down the coordinates. Look up the identifier for Jabara on AirNav. Compare the coordinates. Do they match? Do I have to think of all this myself? Finally, for the love of all things holy, just shut your pie hole!

  9. Well at least your not in the Army as a company commander, this poor guy thought the same way I did when I was a flight chief with a bunch of knuckleheads who did not get it. https://www.duffelblog.com/2013/11/outgoing-company-commander-hate/
