  1. Serious question...does anybody have any clue why 13-130 hasn't been officially released yet? I'm thankful that some CC's thought it was important enough to get out to their people, but what the f--k is big blue's deal? So far, this whole RIF/VSP announcement has been an epic train wreck. America's Air Force, no one comes close....to being this retarded

  3. I've been told that the Es were notified last week. Os could be notified tomorrow. Anyone else hearing the same thing? NAF leadership telling people not to trust the 20 Dec matrix and just wait for the RIF list. The current state of confusion in the AF is comical... I think it would help to have Gen Welsh send out a statement (in plain language and not some PA release speak) on the force management status. I know his intent was to give people enough info and time to make a decision, but it seems like the opposite has happened. Since A1 couldn't get it done maybe Gen Welsh can address the concerns/issues and provide the info to help us make informed decisions. We shouldn't have to rely on anonymous people on the internet to find out whether or not we are getting laid off (but seriously, thanks baseops.net). I do believe this is another effect of AF promoting box-checkers/followers over performers/leaders. You see it in the way people perform or respond during a major event/crisis. The collective silence from AF leadership is deafening. Just be honest, your people will respect you more.

  13. My approach for anything related to the MPF or AFPC is to research and know the regulations for the program, and then apply, then force them to follow their own regs, as necessary (which generally isn't too frequent). My experience is that the knowledgeable and competent techs are generally too busy ensuring their duty section doesn't spontaneously combust from the rampant incompetence of their peers, so I am stuck with 3-level Airman Snuffy. 15. Fucking peasants and their shoe and jacket removal. Just went through DCA and ATL with my CAC and nothing on my boarding pass and had no issues. So, in the most obvious news ever, TSA isn't implementing this in a standardized way around the country.

  18. He ended up in Russia by accident; I think his passport was revoked as he was changing planes to go to South America or something like that. He has stated multiple times that he'd rather be in a democratic country. He broke the law, certainly. Doesn't deserve to have a security clearance ever again. But sometimes laws need to be broken to serve a higher purpose. The guy who leaked the Pentagon Papers thought the same thing and never had to serve time for his leak. The scope of the NSA programs completely out of control and the American people deserved to know it.

  21. This. The reality is that these professions take a certain type of personality. I'm sure we all have friends from past generations and from foreign militaries that we've met over the years. There's a reason a Vietnam vet can sit and bullshit with a vet from Desert Storm, who can sing songs with an OEF vet, who can booze with an RAF pilot, who can chase skirts with a Eurofighter pilot. We're all cut from the same cloth. It takes a certain kind of personality to do any type of job and ours is no exception. The problem is that our profession attracts a certain personality type while our leadership demands another. Yeah, got it. Porn, dirty songs, booze, etc do not have their place in the professional environment. Got it. They're gone. But you will never cut the wild-hair-on-your-ass attitude out from the type of person who is attracted to our profession. I'm not making excuses or tooting my horn as a fighter pilot. The same applies to the dudes in Ranger Battalion or the Marine sniper or the Navy SEAL or the C-130 pilot landing on a short dirt strip. Our jobs must have a person, male or female, who is willing to work for minimum wage, spend many months per year away from home, and take the lives of other human beings. If you can find some liberal punk from UC Berkley who's in touch with his feelings to do these jobs then please, hire him. But reality says you cannot have both. You cannot have a dedicated professional killer and a soft-skinned politically correct poet in the same person. If you want the PC type in our military then go find some to replace us. I dare you. If you want professionals to continue to carry out the mission, then get the fuck off our backs.

  23. If stating the obvious puts me in the minority, count me in too. It's the President's money, he can do what he wants with it. Apparently he wants kids to go to college. He split the money among four different ethnic groups because that's what he has to do. Does anybody know anything about Foglesong's charity? I don't, either. Maybe, just maybe, it's actually a worthwhile organization that gives kids from the poorest part of our nation some money for college. I doubt that it was chosen because the President likes his vans lined up in a certain way. Something also tells me that if the President had put all of his Nobel money on the bar at your squadron you guys would still find a way to get pissed about it.

  24. Glad you think so--wish more and more people would agree. We have people on this anonymous board who won't even answer tough questions. Not sure what you mean by 'western society' (checked out France lately?), but I agree otherwise. And this is where you lost me. Like Vertigo said, if there's no protection of challenging unConstitutional laws, then you further the threat and act of tyranny. Rosa Parks 'broke the law' by refusing to sit in the back of the bus--so you supported the punishing of her for doing so? Or do you just believe we should rely on the judiciary?...the same judiciary structure that supported the internment of American citizens of Japanese descent? Where do you personally draw the line? I'm not asking when/where 'you' will personally take a stand, but what is the line for you when it comes to others defying unConstitutional laws and taking a stand? So standing up to unConstitutional laws is equated to 'falling on your to prove a point'? You make it sound like there's no real and true benefit to taking a stand against a government not following their own law of the land. For the record, I'm not calling you, the guy down the street, myself, etc a bad person for not standing up for things such as Rosa Parks or Snowden did (and yes, I'm using their names together)...but when you outright support their punishment then you're nearly just as guilty. We're not all made the same, as we all have different lives, different levels of courage, but we should all have an idea of when we're all ready to stand up and take a stand, even if that means a potential negative consequence for doing so.

  25. Snowden's not the first NSA "whistleblower" in the past decade, but he's received a heck of a lot more attention than the others. Why? Because he ran off to Hong Kong and has created a, "What will he do next?" saga for himself. So while I can't disagree with your pessimism, that's also sort of the point of civil disobedience. If you're going to stand for something, be ready to face the consequences. Snowden would have had a better leg to stand on if he was willing to take the punishment; in my opinion, he's lost credibility by fleeing abroad and using classified documents unrelated to domestic spying as bargaining chips.
