  1. What makes the top -17 driver? Landing at the right airfield, with current TOLD, and the gear down?

  2. Ring...ring... "Deborah, it's Mark" "Hi!" "Hey, I need a SECAF waiver to approve a bunch of my officers TERA/VSP apps..." "Whatever you need, Mark" "Thank you ma'am...official paperwork to follow, ok?" "Sounds good, I'll let my staff know to expect it" Done.

  6. Here is an animation of the internal workings of a 1911... https://animagraffs.com/how-a-handgun-works-1911-45/ The guy who created it also sells it as a poster. I may end up buying one because I think it's so cool. ETA: The one thing it doesn't show is the disconnector moving out of contact of the trigger shoe when the gun is out of battery. Other than that, it looks very accurate.

  7. To be fair I did say fighter, not slow ass airplane that flies a turn around the target at a constant turn radius with multiple sensors and marking capabilities and something like 69 crew members all voting on if they shoot. Oh, I also train to actually pull the trigger and not as a contingency when multiple systems have failed but rather as a primary game plan. What is this "us" you speak of, I thought this was a MAF/CAF pissing contest, when did we let AFSOC into the bathroom? BTW: This just got really fun, bring it old man.

  9. Oh, I do not disagree that the snowball was clearly in motion. I just was entertained with your "I'm going to put a stop to it", then proceeded to give it a good push faster. Despite my break in attendance here, surely you remember enough to know I couldn't give a shit either way. Measure dicks, don't measure dicks...it's of no consequence (to me or any other person on the planet), so shouldn't even take up space. If that was your actual point, I agree...well done, good point. The humor I found in it was the reason for my post. You can deny the "mud slinging and name calling" aspect of your contribution all you'd like, since it's based on a "first hand example", but I think you're hard pressed to deny it wasn't contributory to the ensuing "pissing contest". You just have a side in it, that's cool. No one will fault you for having an opinion or sharing your experiences. Man, I sure missed you Toro. Bendy

  11. That's not what he's getting at, per se. He eluded to airmanship and situational awareness, both of which are attributes in the CAF and MAF world - but needed more quickly in the more demanding CAF world. The time and effort it would take to go from MAF to CAF isn't worth the risk of failure. Likewise, take a CAF guy and in minimal time in any MAF airframe you can get him spun up with very little risk of failure. You cannot take a C-17 EP and train him in 1 year how to effectively employ a Mudhen. Likewise, I could take Hacker and he could *easily* be an IP in the C-17 within a year.

  13. Well, if AFSOC's gonna enter the fray on this one, let's do this . . . 1. Caveat: I am a T-44 guy, all gunships since then. Got quite a bit of experience in the inter-gunship crossflow bit. But no fighters. 2. I second that a decent crew can carry a weak AC. I've also seen ACs who can almost be an instructor to an entire crew of 13 newbies, all while getting the mission done and having hands of gold. 3. The former can't fly fighters. The latter . . . very well might be able to. Which makes we wonder if this pipe dream might be able to help the 11F problem: - Hold tryouts, more or less. T-38 requal/TX at base X, whereas every bomber/AFSOC/AMC gets a few slots to start. - No "officership" considerations allowed. Candidates must have the balls to put their hands up for consideration, then IP/EPs in the MWS get copies of their FEFs/training folders and take a vote. - Make it through 38s? IFF. Make it through that? RTU. Make it that far, and you get to be a wingman. And by "make it", I do not mean after 69 R-rides. I mean a strong performance. - Given what Toro and others have said, surely the gradual attrition along the line would save a lot of cash while assuring a quality end product. - CRITICAL: This can't be successful if we don't have a waiver to the normal FEB rules. Only the Robin Olds of the C-17, or the cockiest SOBs in the MAF would attempt such a gamble knowing they were going all-in with their wings on the table, and I don't think that would help the AF. Like I said, I'm gunship guy. Please let me know where I'm going wrong here.

  14. All of you are retarded. Any CAP pilot could be trained to effectively employ Spec Ops fighters within a month.

  15. I know some of them did. I'll throw gasoline on the pissing contest-how's that intra-amc cross flow working out? I don't know how the tanker guys view the herk/17 dudes but I know that the tanker dudes don't do so great in the herk. I mean, they do great enough that they don't die, get upgraded, get promoted and then get to be the wg/cc for a wing flying airplanes they know dick about. But they suck in the plane. Generally speaking.

  16. Fair enough. Maybe we can start re-classifying some of those "fighter only" staff billets to let bomber and MAF guys take them. Point being, we have a large overage of one flavor of pilots, and a large shortage of another flavor of pilots...seems like we could use the pilots we have an overage of in some useful manner, rather than showing a couple hundred of them the door, while doubling the bonuses for the fighter guys in the hopes that they will stay.

  17. You're right, they screwed up again after publicly stating there would not be a repeat of 2011. I personally think that's what they are trying to figure out right now, how to let a certain number of those who applied get out like they said they would. If you were denied VSP I would re-apply immediately. When/if I get the rejection letter, I will continuously resubmit until the window closes or my boss orders me to stop trying. 18. All that said, thoughts on making bomber dudes into fighter guys and MAF guys to bombers for their backfill? This whole shortage/overage issue seems like a surmountable obstacle.

  19. So, with all the delays and false starts, will they delay promotion boards again so more people remain eligible?

  20. Makes sense. I think we should do this for that group of dudes; its a win-win as some MAF communities get their manning down to where it should be and the pressure on CAF manning can be reduced to some extent. Not to mention I'm sure there are a lot of dudes out there who we're that #2 or 3 dude in their class with a one fighter drop and would have done great at IFF and beyond if they had better luck/timing on their side. This especially applies to guys who have only been in the MAF for one assignment, as them going to IFF, etc. would be akin to a FAIP as far as timeline goes (and maybe even better considering their operational experience).

  21. Today that is not acceptable as it perpetuates the 'War Against Women'. You should be thrown in jail for even suggesting such an act in a jokingly way. I'll forgive you if you post some hot pics of Ukranian chicks...the less clothes the better.

  22. My sq/cc (former fighter guy in a past life) reported there was significant grumbling here at the lovely 27th SOW. Apparently some other commanders in the Group blamed him as a former fighter dude. It's been telegraphed that when I and another guy go brief the OG later this week that week-old mustaches will be frowned upon. Needless to say, not surprising that AFSOC would lead the way on crushing morale and pegging fun meters. Sometimes I think the "special" in AFSOC has been "short bus special" all along...

  23. Wouldn't want to encourage morale-building at one of the most personally and professionally turbulent times the Air Force has ever faced, right? Jesus tapdancing Christ. I can't find a meme on the internet with enough fucking facepalms for this shit... so a papal facepalm will have to suffice.

  25. Just heard "unofficially" that we can expect the bonus to not be available to AMC pilots this year (this tidbit was briefed at ACSC today, then backed up by a person I know at A1). Let the AF egress floodgates open!

  26. I'm getting my ATP/737 type from Higher Power in April. All of this is applicable to 9/11. I don't have a clue about Montgomery. The process so far has consisted of this: 1. Find a VA approved flight certification course. You're allowed roughly 10.5K per year for flight cert. I've spoken with the VA rep at my base as well as the VA education rep at the main VA education office. According to the base rep, I'll be charged for one month of education benefits. Big VA says they charge one month for every $865 so roughly a year for me. 2. Once you find a course & get a class date go to the VONAPP website: https://www.vabenefits.vba.va.gov/vonapp/default.asp You'll find a VA form 22-1990 which is a form verifying your eligibility for VA benefits for the course. Submit the form. 3. Get denied TERA 4. Once you receive verification of your eligibility, attend your course. You will likely have to pay for everything up front. 5. Once you receive your cert, submit proof of attendance & graduation to the VA. Haven't gotten this far so I don't know specifics. HPA does all of this paperwork for you. 6. About a month after step 5, you get paid via EFT. Good luck!

  27. How can the Air Force allow such promotion of excessive sexuality to take place on base and at the same time crack down on workplace display of personal items that might be interpreted as sexually offensive. The attendees should be labeled as bystanders and cowards for not reporting this violation to leadership and SAPR. Regardless of your sexual preference this is just total hypocrisy. Would it be okay if someone held a heterosexual female pole dancing contest at the O-club? No, it would be an outrage in this day and age. The organizers and attendees would be punished severely and kicked out of the AF. On the other hand, the GLBT fundraiser organizers will probably get rewarded with quarterly awards and firewall 5s for this little event. Last thing, GLBT activists should be outraged at them for perpetuating the stereotype (unless it's true) that gays and lesbians are nothing but freak shows & cross dressers instead of the regular hardworkin' warfightin' airmen that they should be.

  28. Not sure id agree with this 100%. I came to AFSOC in '07 expecting to find a bunch of hard charging, mission focused, tactically proficient folks. Instead, I found a lot of small-mindedness, arrogance, and tactical flaccidity-all excused by cool knives, cool tactical vests, and "air commandoness." Granted I was only in one small corner, but I haven't seen much to change my original conclusions in the last 7 years. Sure, I've had the opportunity to do some cool stuff, but the lack of realization of potential in this command nearly brings me to tears. It's an unfortunate symptom of what I like to call excessive operational inbreeding. Additionally, we've had a terrible run of the most phenomenally abysmal leadership I've ever seen. The queep wasn't brought in from the outside, it was fabricated and embraced internally. But yes, we've tried to grow too large too quickly. I head something once about the folly of mass producing SOF. I also heard something about how people are more important than hardware...Naaaa, must be making shit up in my mind, probably need to drink less. 2.5 hour staff meeting? Yup, 'nuff said. Back on topic, free beer for whomever posts an unaltered picture of Fiel with a clearly discernible mustache.

  30. Process for what? You're gonna need to be a little more clear. Technique only: if you're in ROTC concentrate on A) graduating, B) getting your commission/flight slot, C) drinking and getting ass, not necessarily in that order at all times. If you wanna fly for the army (the topic of this thread sort of) join the army. If you wanna fly for the air force join the air force, pretty easy. Scheming on an inter-service transfer and/or a fixed-wing/rotary-wing transfer when you're a ROTC cadet is taking your focus off of much more urgent needs.

  32. Man, you are cynical! I'm sorry, but stop messing with people's minds. It's just not right. No CC worth his salt would hold this against someone. I'm not saying they're not out there, but for the sake of the young guys reading these blogs, either you are the most unfortunate son-of-a-gun to see all of these horrible things during your AF career (reference, um, nearly everything you post), or most CCs out there aren't nearly as evil as you think they are. For heaven's sake, Rusty...

  33. I missed the pole dancing in there. Drag isn't sexual (at least that show wasn't). It's no worse than the hilarious powderpuff games I've watched at high school games with the guys in cheerleaders outfits and chicks in football jerseys. What about all the youtube vids of soldiers/marines/airmen/sailors in only short shorts singing madonna or Brittany spears? Mountains out of molehills.
