  1. SECAF gets blame too, she was on the scene for 20 minutes and then chaos everywhere.

  2. Did anyone that got a "take back" email on Friday already have retirement orders? I got my orders Friday. , now I have to go in and check. On a Saturday. Again. If CSAF isn't flying nuts from his flagpole after this, I don't care how good of a guy he is, his term is a failure. Three drunk monkeys could run a drawdown better and still have time to fling poo.

  4. If you have time for this level of queep, you have 0 impact on the war. Which coincidentally is the amount of s I give about sex-based PA stunts. Now if it had been operational, and it happened to with out that way, and they gave their supported unit 6hrs extra...then hell yes, that's worthy of praise. But not this shit. 6. Never underestimate the effectiveness of filing an IG complaint, anonymous or in person. The complaint will be investigated. And never underestimate the effectiveness of walking in to the IG office and just talking to them about your situation. Your right to talk to the IG is protected by law. A reprisal complaint is a much bigger deal than a complaint about bad policy. Most leaders take great care to protect the IG process and protect themselves from reprisal, which is relatively easy to prove. Most IG "complaints" are resolved as assists, misunderstandings, or frivolous, meaning they usually fix the problem without elevating to the finding of substantiated complaint. This particular case would fall under Abuse of Authority. A commander requiring professional development in correspondence to be completed before considering them for in residence PME, when CSAF and A1 have specifically said it does not need to be done, is abusing their authority. CSAF knows there is a disconnect between what he says and what happens in the wings. He and A1 said there will be a policy about this released shortly. I recommend not continuing the correspondence lessons unless you want to. If your leadership requires you to continue accomplishing correspondence, talk to them directly (like Sally did) or let the IG know.

  7. But those 200 extra steps represent at least 80 ACSC and AWC papers creating such a rats nest of pseudo-academic citation loops that everyone involved is clearly a better leader for having participated in the process. Remember, wars are won through a detailed understanding of the AU Style Guide... That and a cursory understanding of Clausewitz.

  9. Seems like that sternly worded email I said Gen Cox was going to send got routed to the poor souls who were "approved in error". I was removed from eligibility in the latest update, and wasn't applying anyway. But like you guys say, I'm using their actions as a gage for what we're going to face ahead. My Lt's and Amn/NCOs are coming to me with questions about staying in and the future and when this shit happens I can't think of even a positive way to spin it. This won't even make a good story years from now. I've given out LoR's for much less than what's going on at AFPC. My guys see nothing but screwup after screwup with no repercussions for the people managing our lives. Guess I should track if I have more attention to detail problems soon. The despair that hit me when I saw that "Haha, just kidding" email was pretty tough. I couldn't imagine actually getting the rug pulled that hard. I hope this great leader shows up shortly.

  10. The Pentagon Wars by Col James Burton was recently re-released for the Kindle. It should be mandatory reading for anyone in the armed services. It's got some stellar first hand insight into Col Boyd's theories and impact, the inner workings of the military-industrial-congressional complex, and how we got where we're at today as a military. Among other things, Col Burton put his entire career and livelihood on the line to ensure the Bradley Fighting Vehicle wouldn't be a coffin on tracks for our ground pounders. It's been a while, but I remember the HBO movie based on the book being decent.

  11. Half the battle there is finding the DPEs who understand the carve-outs for military dudes in the FARs. The reality is that of the average check-ride work load of a DPE, the ATP to a mil dude just isn't that common. There are a few who have made this their core business... find them.

  13. I don't think anyone is saying take everything to the IG as a first option. However, sometimes it may be necessary to go to the IG as a first resort. The IG is there to investigate Fraud, Waste and Abuse. Also, as Liquid said, your right to talk to the IG is protected by law. No one can tell you that you cannot talk to the IG and no one can take action against you for going to the IG. The IG serves a purpose and as pointed out, many things can and do change without formal investigations. Use the IG when required and especially when people are abusing their authority. My only "caution" is to make sure that your CC is actually abusing his/her authority and that you are not just butt hurt over getting an answer you didn't want to hear. I had several people threaten to take me to the IG. I offered them the IG's number. IMHO, there is nothing to fear from the IG system if you are doing what is in the best interest of the AF and you have the data to back up your decisions. Arbitrary decisions lead to the perception that you are abusing your authority. Sometimes the right decision for the Air Force or the unit just does not sit well with people. That said, I still do not understand why everyone keeps talking about needing written policy. We operate everyday on verbal orders and guidance. Everything does not need to be written to make it legal. Regardless, here's hoping that the CSAF guidance and policy comes out soon and everyone can breath a sigh of relief and dis-enroll from correspondence SOS.

  14. Panch and cgjohnst, I'm really sorry to hear about your experiences. I'm willing to bet that you guys are among the more hard-working set and have done good things for the AF, yet you've been demonized as dirtbags by the True Believers. I hope that this new policy, once it's in writing, changes things for the better. Robin Olds would have grown a Duck Dynasty beard over this garbage. Liquid--thanks for articulating the IG process better than I ever could. In only rare circumstances should it be used as the initial means of solving problems. I've been wanting to say this to you for a long time, so here goes--a lot of talented people want OUT of the current AF, mainly because of situations like this SOS nonsense. The list of other reasons is quite long, and they have been articulated on hundreds of pages on BODN. I know you have engaged with us and are trying to advocate for us at higher levels, which I certainly appreciate. But make no mistake about it--retention for the AD AF is about to become critical, as high achievers with options will walk when pushed to the brink, especially over things that just don't matter.

  16. Not to stoke the fear, but this has much bigger ramifications than just to those who have already been hosed. Now everyone who is approved for any of these programs is worried that they will get a "Sorry, nevermind" email. Whatever shred of AFPC credibility remained is forever gone. If they don't reverse those reversals, then every approval is really just a "maybe."

  17. That guy needs to keep all documentation showing that his retirement was approved and talk with his Commander. If none of that works, he should be ready with his IG and Congressional complaint.

  19. This is horseshit. We got stuck with conflicting guidance and a general lack of top-down communication. It should never happen again if we've got anything to do about it. Help the dude out if you've got info.

  22. Wait until June and this Global Hawk record will be smashed once again. Rumor is that the LGBT community is going to put on a fabulous, record breaking, Global Hawk demonstration during the newly established DoD LGBT pride month (not that there is anything wrong with that). The selected location for this event is still TBD but currently San Francisco and Key West are the preferred choices.

  24. And not a single fuck was given that day....I want to submit an EO complaint that they created a crew of all females intentionally leaving males out of this historic moment. I am sure the intel they collected over North Dakota is making waves on operations in Afghanistan. Who in the fuck keeps track of all these stupid "records" set by female Airmen? Interesting fact.... All female aircrews will eventually have their periods sync up. The women will sync to the menstrual cycle of the highest ranking female in the group. This isn't sexism...it is science.

  25. ^Fraud, waste, and abuse. They "flew" a Global Hawk back and forth over North Dakota for 34.3 hours just to do it. I'm sure it was a riveting time in the MCE, watching a robot fly a pre-planned track to waste hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars. $23,800 per hour is what the AF is advertising these days... that's $816,340 of waste.

  26. For any of you looking for great target ammo, Freedom Munitions is offering free shipping this weekend (4-6 April). It goes pretty quick! I've put a few thousand rounds of their 9 mm and .223 through my guns and have yet to have a misfire... Their reman (once fired) is a great deal. 3% military discount too. https://www.freedommunitions.com/ Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

  27. Confirmed. I heard it directly from Lt Gen Cox yesterday and CSAF today. No need to do in correspondence unless you are unable to attend in residence. Goal is 100% in residence. In the near future you will not be able to enroll unless you are past your eligibility period and have not attended. I would not complete another lesson. Formal message and guidance will be released soon.

  29. Great advice thanks. Your direct words will be given to the next class. I came across this speech by Simon Sinek during some research and thought some of you would enjoy it. I plan to have the Group Commanders watch it and discuss. I've always been disappointed and embarassed when Air Force leaders eat first at special events. The head table gets served first, or goes through the lame buffet first. Army and Marine leaders eat last, after all of the soldiers and Marines. Simon wrote a book called Why Leaders Eat Last and discusses the leadership concepts in this speech. It is 45 minutes long, but very relevant to the leadership crisis we are experiencing in the AF today. If you are interested in being a better leader, it is worth your time. If you are entertained by listening to someone describe why our leadership sucks, it is worth your time.
