OK, so no answer on the TERA application that I submitted in January, and yet AFPC has the bandwidth to begin ANOTHER round of TERA... For those now applying, best wishes. I hope your wait is nowhere near my wait. How do I plan for a future when I have no idea where it will be (in or out of uniform)? Two weeks beyond original deadline, 3 days beyond extended deadline, and no answers or information available about my application from the TFSC, except...it is in the retirement section. I don't like to bitch, not normally helpful; however, I am now beyond pissed. I cannot be late on any number of deadlines...TOT, training, finance, no-show for not supporting my support group on time...but I am not worthy of so much as a flipping update on my application that is officially 2 weeks late and counting. I expect to be crapped on...after all I signed the papers without illusion. This shit is now just rude.4 points

Oh the irony. Recoupment for a BS AAD you used TA for and didn't want in the first place.4 points

Ok, I'll play. About 8 years ago at the Died a buddy of mine is taxiing out of the secure ramp (RC-135). Cop car screeches in front of the aircraft, lights flashing, and young skycop levels his rifle at the cockpit. Yep, the jet broke red! You can't make this stuff up....3 points

Yeah, I was tapped (phrasing) for this instructor duty and am pretty pissed about it. I talked to the other female instructor in my sqdn and we both agree that when it is time to "train" the squadron not to rape people, we are going to take this approach: give people good information about the resources at his/her disposal in the event that they become a victim (or perhaps supervise a victim), and make it succinct so that people can get the info and move on with their day. It will absolutely NOT be the usual anti-male, all-guys-in-the-military-are-rapists fare that we've been subjected to for years. At our base, it sounds like the SAPR chick will give us the training and then we the schmucks in the sqdn can tailor it as we see fit. We shall see. I know it is difficult to find a ray of sunshine in this joke of a program, but taking this approach (potentially helping people by giving them good info) rather than looking at it for what it really is (an expensive, flashy, politically correct band-aid) makes me feel a little bit less pissed off about the insane amount of time I'm going to waste over this.3 points

I was out for a jog one lovely morning on Laughlin AFB. I hear a shout and turn around. There's a seriously out of breath cop yelling me over. I'm of the darker persuasion....he saw me running along the fence line and thought I was a border crosser. Thank god he didn't have a dog.2 points

Depends... I get why commanders make patches their exec, but it has more to do with the commanders lack of confidence in the general crew force, and desire to push those dudes out front, than anything else. Here's a dude who wears a patch that (arguably) states there is a better than average chance they won't screw something up when put in charge of it. It's the same for the SAPR program. I truly understand the logic - it's hot button right now. And I think it is a slap in the face to everyone who doesn't get the same opportunity. But hey if you want to get your balls kicked in for six months straight and then walk away from everything you've learned in order to get upwardly mobile, more power to ya. It's better to rule in hell than serve in heaven, for some.... Just don't come begging when I'm building the plan or making up the lineup cards for night one, and your name is conspicuously absent. Apparently #usairways twitter feed posted a picture of a 'wet landing'. It's NSFW before you go searching. Some of the twitter replies to the original post are hilarious.2 points

If only there were a knowledgeable person on the ways of A1 that was a BODN member. Although he has been conspicuously absent lately. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!1 point

YGBSM! Why are they opening another TERA/VSP window, when they haven't even finished processing the first round??? How do they even know they'll need an additional window until they complete all the current applications... 113 - days since release of the first FY14 Force Management PSDM 68 - days since the VSP application window opened 15 - MORE days until they'll even look at the remaining applications, who have ADSC's, which are now waiverable…I hope this is worth the wait, prolly should have just applied for PC...1 point

VSP just approved 2004 12B No ADSC Applied first day the window opened. I submitted a ticket yesterday through TFSC since it has been so long. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

And that is ridiculous. It doesn't help that for OS tours it's a three year standard. Imagine the savings if we extended that to four years. I found a document a while back the estimates the average PCS costs in the neighborhood of 30K. Beyond the money add in the usefulness of an aircrew member in that final year. Talk about improving experience levels throughout the different communities.1 point

Every time I even hear HPO mentioned, it makes me want to go to the airlines. HPOs are not the guys you need to entice to stay in. People who actually want to become GOs are generally going to stay in because that is who they are. The people you need to convince are all the guys who want to top out at O-5, maybe O-6 if the job was right, but see the lifestyle of their commanders and DOs and don't think it sounds like something they want to be a part of. Going to wing stand up to explain to the wing commander as to why a four ship landed 20 minutes late? Getting an angry phone call from the OG because Lt X didn't properly fill out an eSSS before sending an unnecessary memo to the group? Having to tell your squadron that they are going to miss Christmas and be "deployed" for six months to a base in Korea where a third of them have already spent 12+ months because some four star wants another squadron in his command? No thanks. Fix this type of BS and the AF won't need a pilot bonus; they'll have to kick guys out because too many want to stay in. Last years change was a significant step in the right direction, but I think 2003 year group retention (or lack thereof) is going to force them to up the ante. Problem is, that would require explaining to Congress why guys who spent years getting to their dream job won't take a quarter of a million dollars to stay in that job.1 point

Fucking stop it. This guy can't win. For years dudes have bitched about all of the little paper cut stuff in the AF...including this sign, t-shirts, patches, masters, PME. Well guess what? We have a CSAF who is actually fixing a lot of those irritants. And every time he fixes one, someone like you bitches "well, he shoulda done X, Y, or Z instead." Do you think he cancelled an afternoon of meetings about force shaping to hammer in the sign himself? Or do you think he may simply have mentioned it to someone and it got fixed? Everything isn't an either-or! For fucks sake. The man is trying. Some things are easy fixes. Some are complicated beyond measure. If you can't get behind him, sts, who will you follow?1 point

Maybe I'm just a nostalgic Army brat, but does anyone else like the Robin Hood sub shops? I'd like to see that in my local on-base food court. Right now it seems like all the onbase food options are fairly unhealthy (BK, cheesesteaks, and pizza). I tend to default to commissary sushi (actually quite good here at Ellsworth).-1 points
