My Dad (Air Guard Technician Crew Chief for about 30 years) was at the Maxwell BX about 15 years ago when this LTC came up to him and said something to him about his hair. He said something like "you are about as close as I would let someone go without saying something about needing a haircut.' My Dad said (and he was serious) "Well I guess it's a good thing I got it cut yesterday"4 points

Saw this gem while browsing the AF recruiting facebook. You heard the lady, I don't know what you guys are bitching about.2 points

Didn't you hear? Only 350 officers applied for VSP. The state of the force is strong, nothing to see here!2 points

PC approved!! I applied under traditional PC March 12th and switched to FY 14 PC on April 2nd after the UPT ADSC waiver authority was delegated. After talking to the guy in the PC office, it sounds like a pretty painless approval process if you have a position number. Good luck! 2005 11M - C-21/KC-135 ADSC through 10 Aug 20162 points

Nobody knows if these numbers include applications already 'processed' but not notified or what. There may still be hope that you receive a nod and maybe they just updated the matrix to reflect what they have already approved. Last week it sounded like they had quite a few approvals who were still not notified. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

That is SOLID advice. At my first interview a few weeks ago, there was a prime example of this. I got there early prior to my interview time, mingled, met some people, toured some planes, etc. After my interview, I was invited to hang around until they closed shop for the day, looked at more planes, etc. During this time, there were two other applicants that interviewed. They arrived exactly on time, went right in, then left. One of them was even asked by one of the pilots that I was hanging out with if he wanted to look at some planes on the flightline. I shit you not, this kid looks at his watch, taps it, and says "you know, I really want to see if I can make it to my last class of the day." In my head I was like "yep, no job for you." Thats just an example of what NOT to do during your interview process. I had flown half way across the country to be there and had to take a week off of school to do so. I'm sure many of you guys are in same or similar situations, but at the end of the day, how bad do you want the job? Make it show. Two days later I got the phone call that I had been selected to go to UPT for my dream job flying KC-135's. This would not have happened if I had not stuck around and got to know some of the squadron dudes who fly that airframe. One of them sat me down for a good hour or so and did his own interview on me, so I can't stress how important it was for me anyways to stick around. One day they were checking insurance. As I was on a bike this involved a little work (I keep it under the seat). When I asked why I was told it was a RAM. I didn't know terrorists couldn't get insurance.1 point

"Final batch processing will happen once the program closes out (after 1 May), your application will be on hold until then. This is due to SAF just recently provided AFPC the expanded ADSC waiver authority which now allows us to process members with the ADSC for UPT. We are allowing time for others to apply before doing another round of batch processing for final decisions to be fair since the expanded authority was just released. //SIGNED// Name removed My statement/question is this. We, or at least I, applied under the assumption they were going to do 30 day batches starting after the initial window opened...BACK IN FEB!!!!! They didnt wait for others to apply until that initial window closed so why are they now waiting another month to approve these???? They werent planning on doing it in the beginning, so why now? Are they saying everyone who applied that doesnt require a waiver are more qualified to receive VSP over someone who doesnt require a waiver? what about three people who all have one yr ADSCs for different reasons left, who wins in that tie? They need to publish ADSC priorities if that is the case so they are operating under standard conditions. Right now it seems like its at the whim of the GS-7. I would also like to know why the C-17 individual whose pilot training commitment was waived was approved before the rest of us then. This require an answer right now, not May 1, because by then it will be too late if they already hit their numbers. Blow up this guy's inbox with tough questions because i dont think they are following linear/static guidance and its creating turmoil in the masses.1 point

At the Sheppard golf course late at night with a female. Both of us were in tech school so you can guess where things were going when all of a sudden SF man steps out of the shadows like 006 in Goldeneye, NVGs in hand and a smirk on his face. His buddy rolls up in his car and they have a chat with us. Cockblocked by SF but got to see through NVGs for the first time in my life, pretty cool.1 point

I had one approved by NGB. And, I know of an officer that just had one approved this month for the Reserves.1 point

There's a big difference between having the authority to fix something and actually being able to fix it. I'm sure every CSAF, SecDef, and POTUS has had many a grand vision dashed once they see the reality of their office.1 point

If you have the lifelong dream of flying AF jets, apply for every opportunity out there. Especially AD. You have to realize that while there are certainly never a shortage of things to bitch about on AD, the majority of dudes on here making the most noise don't know any different - most have no experience outside of AD. Most of them don't realize that at least part of their problems reside within themselves, and that they will eventually be just as dissatisfied as a civilian. I've been enlisted, a min wage civilian, a traditional college student, a civilian professional (Engineer), and AD AF for the last 10 years. Trust me, the AF isn't as broken as most around here think it is. Yes, there are issues, but that's life. All the things you mentioned are real benefits of this job that are hard to find elsewhere, and they make the BS worthwhile, at least manageable for 10 years. While I'm not looking to stay beyond my 20, I have no regrets about leaving a good paying, stable civilian job for AD. Good luck.1 point
