  2. At least the simple HTML pages were much easier to navigate than the new AF portal maze. It's like trying to solve a puzzle every time I log-in to get something done.

  3. The pass/fail at 90% doesn't bother me as much. I don't have a big problem with the 100% to pass as long as the questions/answers are legit. I've had students and other people I knew in missiles that said the tests would ask questions like "You answer the phone and do step 1 of the checklist, what is the next thing you do?" The logical answer would be to write what step 2 is but then you would be wrong because the answer they want is "put the phone down because you'll need both hands for step 2 of the checklist" or something like that. If the question was "What's step 2 of this memorized checklist" and the answer was writing out step 2, then I have a lot less heart burn about what their standards are. I was more impressed with the way she knocked down his 'Big Blue' answers. When he said that all 9,600 people on base are responsible for the successful launch and she replied "aren't the missileers (the only people taking the test) the only ones that matter?" He's including people that aren't even taking the tests and saying they're not cheating. Sounds like he believes people's OPRs/EPRs too much.

  4. Other services stratify everyone. The problem is that our idea of "truth" has become departed from reality. If you were to hand an OPR to anyone outside the AF where the push line read "A strong officer. Consider for IDE in-res and place in ADO position," they might actually believe the rated individual was shit hot... vice someone in the top 70%. The system needs actual honesty. Not Air Force honesty. There's sadly a difference.

  5. All this argument proves is how really f-ed up our system is. Senior leaders: I know you're reading. Why can't we just have an honest system? One that tells folks where their performance really is and offers the member a chance to change that positioning (for better or worse).

  7. Probably tied to the reason they're seeing a civilian doc.

  8. So I have a speculation for the delay to VSP, particularly for 11M's. Within the past month, I have seen 3 of my friends get approved for Palace Chase. Two 2004 11M's and one 2006 11M. I'll bet ya that they are cranking through the PC app's to knock out as many FM requirements before they start approving our VSP apps. If you think about it from their perspective, it's a smart move, but they should have been honest and up front from the beginning instead of giving us the "will process in monthly batches" "strategic pause" "process all remaining and adjudiacated apps after 1 May" "were rusty at Force Managment" Seriously, AFPC is in the business of dealing with peoples lives and they have delayed this proccess to the point where it's straight up unprofessional. Someone mentioned earlier in this thread that if we had been 50+ days late on a suspense, there would be paperwork and/or firings. It amazes me that the AF will fire 9 CC's for a cheating scandal, but no one has taken any responsibility for this debacle. Days since... Original FY14 PSDM release: 125 VSP application window: 80 # PSDM iterations without any result...4 # Days AF personnel will have to find a job by the time AFPC "gets around" to approving VSP apps...150 or less

  10. Well, I fly a 25-year old turboprop in the Northeast in crap weather, congested airspace in a jacked up industry...So what? There is a BIG difference between GA and military flying...Whether you want admit it or not...So, get your ego under control, and lighten up a bit, demonstrate that you have a sense of humor. I was just teasing you guys...US military pilots, are the best in the world at what they do...No question.

  11. All good and noble. I think the bang for the buck just isn't there with the ATP-SEL rating unless you have a specific job you're jumping into. Getting ratings in other categories (rotary wing, glider, weight shift control, powered parachute, lighter than air...) will achieve more of your stated goals and certainly will make you more broad as a pilot than doing a couple of approaches in a Warrior with a DPE present. No doubt, you likely already have a few non-airplane ratings on your Orville & Wilbur card. Nobody yet has said the real reason to get an ATP-SEL... so you can tell the AF to shove it and you start flying in Alaska or the Carribean. That's doubly-true for the ATP-SES. I'll let this thread go back to how military pilots can get their CFI.... There's a ton of value in military CFIs as most civilian CFIs just don't have the depth of experience that mil dudes do.

  12. Yea, how could that have any impact on your general ability to fly/instruct an airplane….maintaining SA over multiple hours of flying a cable driven ancient beast across multiple timezones, dealing with MULTIPLE nave at once and trying to put gas in the tanks for 20 mins at a time before trying to put iron on target 12 jdam at a time…yea…how the hell could that EVER translate to being able to fly the mighty ing Seminole…i bow down the lowly CFI at my local FBO...

  13. I know it varies by base, but many have www.gmail.com blocked, but mail.google.com is not. You know, because I'm sure Google is less secure than our cracker jack assembly of 1990s-era websites.
