  1. Oh SNAPs... Do you agree with everything posted here? No? Awesome! Do you read everything posted here? No? Awesome! Does everything posted here represent you? No? Awesome! Free speech is not always tasteful or informed. But we sure dont need anymore thought policing than we've already got. I think some of you behave like teenage dickheads. I also think there are plenty of good dudes out there who genuinely try to help folks or at the least interact and learn from someone outside their own community. Sometimes it gets ugly, and has to be cleaned up. Some would argue that the site is negatively focused because of the recent buffoonery the USAF experienced re: force management. And there aren't as many kids trolling in to ask questions - largely thanks to folks policing the site. But the worry about "spouses and airmen" reading what is written here means there is something to hide. Which I'm not sure there is - if there is, maybe it shouldn't be posted. I know I've grown up, and regret some of the dumb shit I've said here, but that doesn't mean I think there should be more controls over who sees what on an open forum. USAFPilot I get what you're saying and see where you're going with this but the juice ain't worth your visions squeeze. The goal here should be MORE anonymous participation, including senior leadership, not more regulation and firewalls so you can control who reads it and you can "put yourself out there." Because people won't. Plain and simple. Chuck

  2. I think this thread started out cheeky and fun, now it's just cruel and tragic. It's one thing to harass the dude for his public love spectacle, it's another entirely to make degrading comments about the fiancées body. She is not some celebrity with no chance of encountering baseops. They are normal people and there's a decent chance she'll see this stuff. I made a similar comment about all of the hacked photos, but would you be laughing if this was your daughter or wife? I wouldn't. JQP commented on the declining state of BODN and I wasn't convinced it was true. This thread seems to reinforce that assertion.

  3. Here are the post stats by month since January 2011, take from them what you will... While the numbers may be down for the past few months, that seems to occur every year. Now, whether the content is to everyone's satisfaction is something entirely different; but we all learned a long time ago that you can't please everyone! However, for the most part, the vast majority of our Maybe we need to reinstate the following...

  6. No shit. I don't know about GTFO, but everyone definitely needs to LTFU.

  7. I don't smoke the substance legal in some states now, but reading this now-modified thread must be similar to the after-effects. "Wait, what?!"

  8. WTF? One thread giving some friendly shit over a public marriage proposal and now BODN is in decline? Seriously? I have seen very little admin/moderator abuse on this forum. And I am fairly knowledgeable on this subject as a SMod over on Ls1Tech, which is a much bigger forum, and we would deal with it on occasion. My $0.02.

  9. I'm not participating in the comments on the pair, but I've got no sympathy either. You open yourself up to public scrutiny when you make the conscious decision to post up an electronic advertisement of your proposal on a big screen in front of 50,000 attendees of a sporting event, and go the extra mile to alert the nationally televised cameras to watch out for you getting down on your knee...and you wear your uniform to make it a bigger story for the cameras (amplifying the douchebaggery in my opinion). I understand that this broad didn't have a hand in any of that, but you know what? If she doesn't like dealing the the fallout of her boyfriends actions, (whether right or wrong) she can say 'no'.

  11. Wow- I can't believe I'm going to say this, but imo the moderation here has gotten BETTER than in years past. At least from my perspective. I think the mods know they weren't correct when they changed people's posts, etc. If someone feels they were chased off then that's on them for not sticking up. Hell I've had multiple attempts of someone(s) try to chase me out of here, but guess what... I'm still here making people roll their eyes. Because I believe when a mod crosses a line, the other mods hold that person accountable. That said I do have warnings that are over 5 years old now, but whatever. Has the content been a bit stale lately? Sure. But maybe that's because that's what these "new Air Force" users are bringing to the table. Don't like the content? Then post the shit you do like, or don't and keep bitching about it. I can agree that you should need to be a registered user here to view the info, but requiring a .mil address:? GTFO.

  12. Right, because a username and password are stopping the Chinese. Heck, scoobs is probably just some high school hacker anyway. If the discussion can't happen in the open, take it to the vault. 2 on historical perspective and Steve Davies, etc. Plus, this can provide a lot of information for prospective candidates with no military affiliation (like the whole accessions forum). Attitude adjustment, probably; "exclusivity" and a dressing room curtain, no.

  13. So, let's take those critiques as the aviators we are and figure out how to fix it. Without Rich at the helm, we maybe need to re-visit his "commanders intent" for the forums and take a look at what we can do to make it better. Seperate thread addressing this anyone? I sure care a hell of a lot more about the forums than I do about the Afghans I am trying to advise.

  14. Concur. I'm still surprised... after the pain and suffering by others that participate in Facebook... that many still feel the internet is an alternative "Squadron Bar". It's the internet folks. In fact, it's BO.net, which has a significant number of toolbags in the population. These are not "my bros". Reason #76 why I spend less and less time around this site. In my former community, I couldn't even imagine that this type of thing would be posted on the internet by one of "the bros". We certainly have "lively and colorful discussions"... but we keep to ourselves. If someone posted these comments about the wife or fiancee of one of us, it would not go over well at all. That said, it's the internet, and you are entitled to express yourself. However, the lack of tolerance by those that consider themselves tolerant of anything is nothing short of hypocritical. They justify it by a "chill out" or "get a thicker skin"... yet they are the ones telling dissenters to fuck off because they are the intolerant ones. Toro, As the moderator, you've done great work on this forum, and we appreciate it. People aren't infallible, however. And your post was a mistake. As the moderator, your job is to moderate. It is NOT to tell someone who disagrees with you to fuck off,... and then offer to help them disable their account if they can't take a joke. That type of chest thumping by a moderator is a foul. And you... of all people... should understand the 2nd and 3rd order effects of squadron bar talk going online. After having the letter to a lowly college ROTC cadet go viral, and getting spanked by General Kwast, you are the poster child for "this should stay in the squadron, with the bros". I don't know what kind of punishment, what Letter of Reprimand you received, or how long you were grounded, but you certainly laid low around here for some time. And while I'm sure you are like the rest of us, and yuck it up now that it's been a few years, I'm betting you weren't real fond of the internet for a while. And finally... to tell us that because we feel the comments are in very bad taste, that we are responsible for SARC training... it's absurd, you know it's absurd, and it does nothing but reduce your standing as a moderator on this board.

  15. I am super stoked for the guy. When I was a kid a neighbor of ours was dating a Buffalo Jill and I was absolutely floored. At 10 yrs old I thought she was the most beautiful woman on the planet. For the record, many of those girls are really smart; working on law degrees, med school, etc. Edit...okay sounds like most strippers but for real though.

  16. Agreed. Waiting for all the haters to post pics of their NFL cheerleader wives so we can compare.

  17. Getting hit by a car probably does have a PK around 70 if the speed is high enough. Motor vehicle fatalities in 2012 were 33,561. We've had one death from Ebola. Its spread by contact with bodily fluids. How often have you been puked on recently? The news media is making this into way more of a panic than it should be. I'm just saying to keep the probability of meeting a contagious ebola patient in the US in perspective.

  18. Hey, this disease has killed 1 and made 2 nurses sick in the US. Time to go full "Contageon". Driving to work poses 10,000 times greater risk to most Americans than Ebola

  20. There is no solution to the assclownery at the MDG. What do you expect when you combine the enlisted afscs with the lowest asvab scores, a bunch of single digit GS's; and the bottom fifth of every medical school in America? Don't count on MiCare to be the savior; I gave up on it after every email said "call us for an appointment."
