  1. "If I can't go to a fighter, I'd rather stay in RPAs than fly some heavy jet! I am 100% sure I'll never want to fly for the airlines!"

  2. And grow a bit of skin thickness. No one will care about your feelings. Dork.

  4. Appreciate all the good info brothers. I'll be sure to pass along to my studs here. They are pretty worried about the situation and I feel for them. They are trying to figure out if they can eventually just cross commission and fly for another branch if it came down to it later in the game just so they can get in a cockpit and rack up their hours for future jobs. And or separating from the AF when the time comes then trying to get picked up in some Guard/Reserve unit (fighter unit) and getting sent to IFF and B Course since they are already Fighter/FAIP Qual'd and flew the T-38 over here. Seems pretty valid since most of these guys will be in their late twenties to early thirties if it came down to it and I have current guard dudes going through UPT right now for a unit at like 30 year old LTs. As for how they are picking the RPAs and not necessarily entirely based on "merit" and picking the bottom dudes. Who knows? We are talking about an Air Force that thought a quartile system for picking missile officers from Academy/ROTC was a great idea since they were tired of getting the bottom of the barrel in that AFSC and an Air Force that thinks it's cost effective to send dudes to UPT to fly drones when they can make it an enlisted career field, etc. But I digress and that's not a conversation for here. I however have seen some pretty sketch processes in who gets what drop in UPT when it comes down to Flt Comm ranking and that is not merit based at all so I'm feeling a similar process for RPAs. I'll be sure to post the drop next Friday and let you guys know what the studs who might drop RPAs tell me about what higher ups have "promised" or "told" them about it.

  5. Is this BODN or the comments section on a CNN plane crash article?

  6. Fixed it. My proofreading skills on a single sentence post were non existent. Only good feedback from Cobra Kai. Probably 10 people from both our squadrons at KDYS have gone. Everybody has felt prepared for their checkrides and nothing bad to say about the DPE. The only reason people were going to Memphis was cost and a shorter course.

  7. oh for fucks sake. What does MSA have to do with vectoring altitude? Do you know what MSA means?

  8. Probably the same evil Sith lords that have managed to keep Holloman & Cannon open all these years. While no where near as good a deal as Osan, with good accommodations and a car to get around on weekends, Kunsan wouldn't be too bad. You should have seen it back in 1983, its fricken paradise now.

  9. I was Guard, went to CBM. My wife stayed in Dallas. I submitted forms to have BAH from Dallas as my primary BAH (1500 vs 900 at CBM). It was approved and then I submitted family separation pay and had that approved. For us, the year sucked without seeing each other all the time, but the money was a nice consolation.

  10. You can get the waiver to get BAH at your home location and you will live in the dorms. Several guys in my class are currently doing it.

  11. Massive assumption in your last sentence. Just like the current situation where a lot of dudes are passing on the bonus and staying in to see what happens, there will be many who do the same under your scenario. Adding money to the pot will always sweeten the deal for some, but 1-2 years longer duration won't have nearly the effect of upping the annual payment by $15-20K.

  12. That would require leadership's allocuting to the assertions that: 1) morale is an actual primary duty competency-affecting driving factor and 2) morale is low amongst targeted groups. There is no indication senior leadership has any genuine interest to allocuting to either of those statements. Examples abound. SecAF talking in platitudes about the realities of ICBM work, the painful teeth pulling that was hearing about "pilot's being bored" as part of their excuse for the retention problem in front of Congress et al. Same goes for duty stations and the impact of PCS basing variances as a subset of this issue, both for stressed fields (which they can't even identify accurately without insulting the aggregate membership's intelligence) and for the general population at large. If I was an RPA victim, I'd SIE without batting an eye. A recat to a 4 year ADSC, GI bill and restarting my professional civilian life (flying or otherwise) upon exit, would still put me ahead in a decade's time than fulfilling an unwanted job for 10 years just to have to restart a process I'd be committed to starting the very day they gave me an RPA in the first place. Personally, that's why I went Guard/Reserve; as hard as I worked in high school and college/graduate school in order to position myself to merely gamble at the foot of the literal lottery that was getting a pilot slot, I just couldn't justify losing an entire decade's bet and getting pinched for an additional decade in a position where I wouldn't even be allowed to recover vocationally due to an extended military commitment. I would see no other place to go than SIE if they didn't offer me instant discharge or banked program like they offered folks in the early 90s. Game is chess, it ain't checkers. Take care of número uno...and I don't mean flight lead. Good luck to all.

  13. Your weak attempt at sarcasm is noted. Field Elev is -46 MSL at CHS. 10 miles x 3 = 3000 AGL. Easy. Done. No LGPOS math required.

  14. I'm sorry but ATC better have a damn good reason for having him this low at 20NM out, especially given that MSA is 3100ft. 1600 MSL is glideslope intercept altitude for R-15. That happens at 5.8 DME. Anyway, enough said. It will all come out in a few months. Just sucks 2 lives were lost and one ruined.
