  1. I don't see the B-2 and U-2 communities asserting that companion training is useless because they cannot fly above 50,000' or 24+ hour missions in a T-38. Your post indicates an assumption that companion training must be directly related to the MWS mission for it to be worthwhile. That is incredibly myopic.

  2. Sounds about right. You definitely need a FFD/MEB, followed by a flying waiver. The Public Health techs that screen you for deployment, and the Doc that processes your DD 2795 SHOULD catch it, but they might not. (You feelin' lucky, punk?) Everything for the MEB should be done at least 120 days before your depart date to allow the flying waiver to route (which needs ACS review), and then to allow the deployment waiver to process through CENTCOM/USAFCENT (or whoever the gaining COCOM is). This is probably doable, and what I recommend you pursue. Otherwise, you're kinda rolling the dice with your career. If you are already seeing a TRICARE network Allergist, or saw one in the last 90 days, half the work is already done. Talk to the local MSME, talk to your FS, and make them prioritize your case. Be persistent and proactive. The condition is listed in the flying waiver guide as "Urticaria, Angioedema, and Anaphylaxis." Don't get discouraged by these standards. The FCII waiver approval rate for Anaphylaxis is remarkably good (~85%).

  3. I guess I was lucky to survive an 11 hour 22 minute sortie after landing at near max crosswind in a snowstorm in my yanking and banking single seat machine. My 1200 T-38 hours in a prior assignment obviously we're irrelevant, also. Yep, just plain luck saved me.

  4. Epi-Pens are a red flag for patients needing an MEB. Do you (or whoever you are asking for) already have an ALC? Assuming so, that will need a deployment waiver.

  5. I know a Former Army Guy who came to 60s for a tour (as an O-4), and now he's flying Preds at Holloman. So if your bud is looking to get OUT of helos, RPAs might be a viable option...

  6. You bet man--and good on you for helping them out. Also, you can tell him that out of all the prior Army rotor wing pilots who crossed over to fly helos in the AF (who I have known and I have known quite a few), not one of them said they regretted their decision.

  8. Applied leadership, 2 week course 1x 3-6pg paper (done before start) that is revised during course, peer reviews and group discussion. Applied National Security, 1 week course 1x 1500-2000 word paper due at end of week. no discussion posts. Applied Warfare, 2 week course 1x 900-1200 word paper, discussion posts Applied Joint Warfare, 3 week course 1x 850-950 word paper, discussion posts, article submission, 1 page synopsis. Each course is relatively easy. You should be able to accomplish any of these courses in a few hours a week while distracted with real life. That being said pay attention to the last course as there are lots of due dates and the assignments aren't laid out very well which causes some confusion after a few beers. Just sign up for the classes and do them. They are actually easier than the online masters courses. The time consuming stuff are the ILAs in the CBTs. Those are huge time sinks in the joint courses. Read the forums first to get some direction before attempting. Best of luck.

  9. Exactly. Any auto pilot heavy AC pilot community would greatly benefit from having the 38 as a companion trainer. It would make any dude in those communities a better pilot. In KSZL's case, people have tried to cut the program many times. It always survives because once you crunch the numbers you easily see that it's essential to the B-2 mission. Small fleet dynamics and associated mx issues mandate having another airplane. Cheaper is awesome. My vote is keep the 38.
