  1. Somewhat of a derail: A bit of both. While the part-time banker's hours were a great sabbatical and chance to be with the family, there was a significant amount of material to read. On the surface, they advertise that they want you to "think strategically, and solve the complex problems of the air force". And a lot of the international relations/military theory courses do teach you a huge amount that engineering type minds wouldn't necessarily be exposed to. Realistically, they are bound by JPME curriculum and handcuffed by the AETC formal course mentality, grading rubrics and "approved" solutions. Then, there are the near daily parade of stars wanting to give advice to an audience of Majors. Pros and cons abound... Definitely learned a lot...Definitely wouldn't consider it the "Harvard of the South"

  3. I really enjoyed this movie. I liked that they made those call-backs to "A New Hope". I loved the FUN of it, something sorely lacking in the prequels. I didn't think they had one-dimensional characters...you have a stormtrooper who suddenly grows a conscience, a girl with severe abandonment issues, and the main bad guy has a severely out-of-control temper. My theory is that Rey is Luke's daughter...and, being the giant nerd that I am, I will remind everyone that both Anakin and Luke were highly skilled pilots despite a lack of training and experience. Every time Rey uses the force, it happens almost immediately following Kylo Ren using the force. She's learning from him, however indirectly. There is also a fan theory that she was trained, then had a memory block put in place to hide her from the First Order...why else would she see an island when she uses the force, having only lived on a desert planet? Why else would she get those impressions from the lightsaber if she never learned how to use those powers? Also, I really hated the new Star Trek movies, and the latest looks to be the worst. They turned Star Trek into nothing more than a backdrop for a poorly-scripted action movie. Star Trek was never about the action - it was about competent, smart people solving problems through the use of their intelligence and technology.

  4. Legacy course I take it? I did the J course so it was a PCS for me anyway, but I have a bunch of friends who did the H course. Everyone brought their own car and family if they had one, and everyone lived off base. I don't think there are any restrictions on where you can live. I can tell you I haven't met a single American officer who stayed in the dorms! I don't think you'll get a rental car. Out of the eight or so buddies I had TDY here, they all stayed in one of three places: The Links in Sherwood - pretty close to base, okay apartments with a par 3 golf course between the buildings. The Enclave in North Little Rock - pretty big apartment building with newer/mostly smaller apartments, right next to a foot bridge to the bars downtown, and close to the freeway towards base. Block 2 Lofts (I think that's what it's called) - pretty cool but more expensive industrial style apartments on the main drag downtown. There are plenty of other options but those just happened to be where all my bros ended up!
