Re: Champ - I saw the ACC/CV get up from the table at an MLR and call the Hill Wing/CC to tell him his PRFs were terrible, and that said Wing/CCs signature was about to be the reason no one from his base got promoted... So it happens! Chuck1 point

There are way too many other variables to track that data. "Super P" means nothing if there isn't a decent record of performance to back it up (i.e., strats, PME pushes, and follow-on staff recommendations that match the strat ). It also depends a great deal on who is signing the PRF. Not all senior raters carry the same amount of weight. To make matters more complicated, a senior rater that would have normally done well at an MLR or CSB can be called out for shenanigans that affect his/her credibility and therefore influence the outcome of the boards. Examples include strong positive language on a bottom line with no record to back it up, multiple "super P" or "if I had one more..." pushes amongst eligibles, or exaggerated/just plain untruthful verbiage in the narrative that board members catch.1 point

Some platforms (AWACS, JSTARS, the few remaining KC-135s), the writing's on the wall. Guys with smashbug wings are going the way of the dodo. Now, for platforms that a) drop ordnance or b) have an AFSOC mission, the outlook is good. AFSOC is quickly phasing in -J model everything, including AC and MC-130s, and they specifically kept the CSOs on those aircraft. For bombers, the jet doesn't work without us, so you'll have a full career there. The Buff is slated to be around until the mid 2040s at the rate it's going. As for being a second class citizen...most of the problems I've experienced have come from cocky straight out of T-38 young copilots who think they're God's gift to aviation. By the time they make AC and especially IP, most of them have calmed down and come to accept that, at least for the Buff, the jet revolves around the offensive team. If your offense team sucks, you don't make your TOT and your bombs don't hit the target. Your potential in that kind of community is limited only by your work ethic. Right now, the current 5 OG/CC is a radar nav, the incoming 2 OG/CC is an EW, and the incoming 2 BW/CC is a Bone WSO on a cross-flow program. In my ops squadron tours, I had two CSO sq/ccs and two pilot sq/ccs, and in my current FTU gig, I've had one and one. Marketable skills...there's no one-one correlation, but you'll have years of military experience and be an expert in weapons and sensors. Jobs at Boeing, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, etc are usually pretty common post-AF.1 point

I agree with what everyone else has said here. Also, do you understand how the VML process works? BL: IMO if you were being looked at strongly for WIC your SQ/CC would have said that on your ADP and your OG would have communicated that to your functional. Be realistic and move forward and do a good job where you are planted and good things will happen. Unfortunately, the path you want is not what you always get, ESPECIALLY when the Air Force is concerned.1 point

Dude, I hate to sound like a dick, but if staying in the viper and going to WIC was realistically in the cards for you, you probably would have stayed in the viper to have a look vs going to AETC. I only speak this nonsense because when I was in 38s we had a viper guy show up and he'd talk about how he should have gone to WIC, his great UPT and FLUG performance etc. only to get screwed by the VML and get stuck with all us sub-par CAF rejects because AFPC screwed up. You can imagine how well everyone liked him. Advice: go to AETC with a great attitude, kick ass, go back to the CAF and climb back on up. 3 yrs goes by quick, and with a good attitude, it can be a very fun and rewarding assignment.1 point

Dont let this take the winds out of your sails. Work hard in 38s and have a good attitude. Try to look at it positively as a way to learn to teach. if you cant teach well, you wont make it through WIC, if you even get selected to go at all (you wont get pushed, ARC or otherwise, if youre a shitty IP). All is not lost, just the possible path changed, remember that. Add: i have a couple good friends who were in similar shoes and went as Majors in the guard. So, that should show you the door is not closed.1 point

Truth is your only chance is go to the ARC, then hopefully go to WIC out of there. Many guard Majs have gone throuh and done well. I try to not talk in absolutes, but on this one, theres zero chance on AD. Better you know the facts and dont get a sugar coated half truth.1 point

For all I have seen - yes. Sorry. Based on the age/TIS limit (I don't know what it is, but I know it occurs sometime near the end of your second tour, 6-8 years TIS I think) you won't have time to get back to the Viper, become an IP, and become one the wing's top IPs in time to go to WIC. It's kind of like being a FAIP - no matter the order, an AETC tour kind of ruins your chances. Not to say weirder things haven't happened, and maybe you'll get a waiver, etc, etc, but I think the door is 99.69% closed. I have seen faips go to wic in other airframes (namely C-models) but I think that is because they have a less diverse mission set, so they can get better faster and make the TIS cutoff. I don't think I've ever seen someone in your situation go (CAF-AETC-CAF); even if you volunteer to get back to the viper right at your 2-year point, because after 2 years you won't be quite as good as you were, strictly based on continuity. However, if you still want it, what you should do is 1-make sure your leadership at UPT and the functional at the porch know of your desire to go back to the jet asap (right at your 2 year time on station point) 2-bust your hump when you do go back to the CAF and let your FS leadership know you want to go to WIC and even if you get no for an answer a couple times, stick with it. If none of that works, you can always try to get into a guard/reserve unit who will send you to wic. For what I know, because they are paying for the course, they can send who they want and Big Blue's age/TIS restrictions do not apply. Good luck, and I'll see you at PIT...(unless you are going back to SPS)1 point

AFPC is a shitshow. She should be fired by the CoS: https://www.af.mil/AboutUs/Biographies/Display/tabid/225/Article/108712/major-general-margaret-b-poore.aspx AFPC is a mess. She is accountable... especially after 32 months in command. He should be fired by the CoS: https://www.af.mil/AboutUs/Biographies/Display/tabid/225/Article/108722/john-w-bill-snodgrass.aspx AFPC is a mess. He is accountable... especially after 25 months as the E.D. With the plethora of AF manning/personnel issues, WHY does the CoS accept the failures of AFPC? Grow a pair, Mark. FIRE them... announce it... bring in a new AFPC leadership team... give them 15 months to have significant improvements with the understanding that they will go places if they do... or be asked to leave if they don't.1 point

They're shooting there own officers now. I read about toxic leadership but this is getting out of hand . I imagine on base concealed carry is now been buried.-1 points
