  1. Thanks for posting, deaddebate. I'm currently on a 365 in the desert, and the Army staff of CJTF-OIR are nothing but a worthless waste of manpower and bureaucracy that get in the way of what the CAOC is meant to do -- FIGHT AN AIR WAR! Seriously, it's maddening. The joke "The word Joint is spelled A-R-M-Y" couldn't be more spot on.

  2. If you combine the raw bureaucracy of CJTF-OIR with a lack of any achievable goals at the top, it's a special kind of operation.

  3. I just went through this as a TR. Local mortgage company needed a letter called "Unconditional Employment Verification" where I created an MFR on letterhead from scratch that stated "This letter is meant to provide employment verification and history for ###. He has served as part of unit XX since XX as a XX instructor pilot. His average gross monthly income is $X000 as a TR. He is a member in good standing in our unit." I had the DO sign it, and sent that along with 1 month of LESs to the bank. I considered doing the math for an entire year of pay, but providing those LESs would be a bit crazy. In any case, the bank liked the MFR with the LESs. Good luck dude... I hated having to explain repeatedly that it's not really a part-time job.

  4. Maybe they should have documented some of the history, instead of threatening to wash a kid out for riding one of these admittedly ridiculous hoverboard contraptions.

  5. Though S.2943 passed yesterday, it is likely not the bill that will be passed by the House and presented to the President. /https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/senate-bill/2943/all-actions H.R.4909 already passed the House on 18 May and was placed on the Senate calendar on 26 May. This bill does not have the BAH change. /https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/4909/all-actions Now the two bills differences need to be resolved, and only one will proceed with amendments and repeat passage in the first chamber to then advance to the President. /https://www.congress.gov/legislative-process/resolving-differences The Senate passed its own version so that both bills may be discussed in a conference committee. Thus both chambers have their own bills and criteria to defend, which is particularly important as the Senate has a Democratic Majority and the House has a Republican Majority. /https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_congressional_conference_committee /https://uspolitics.about.com/od/thecongress/a/conference.htm H.R.4909 will very likely be the bill that is amended and eventually accepted, but whether the . In short, it is a concern, but this individual fight and the full NDAA at large are FAR from finished.

  6. Didn't you hear? The RPA job is intrinsically rewarding work! And according to a spreadsheet, the crews have an amazing QoL because they don't deploy as much.

  7. Why does anyone other than the careerists want to do school in-Res? Has the USAF brainwashing worked to make you think going to one of these schools will make you a better leader/further your career that much? For F's sake, pass. If you were on the fence about getting, being sent away for a year non-flying doing f-all should only push you more. "Yeah but it's great family life"....you can simply stop doing the BS at home station to do that as well.

  8. Sorry, no gouge on this school, but if you're on the fence between this and airlines, seems like a no brainier to me. This school is going to net you minimum 4 more years on AD, maybe more. You've got the year of school, followed by a three year school ADSC. Your post school assignment will most likely be staff. Assuming you still want an airline job, you'll probably want another post staff flying assignment to gain some recent currency. You'll be looking at another 2 years PCS ADSC, and possibly a requal ADSC. That will put you at, what, 17-19 years in following your next flying assignment? If anything, I'd think this "opportunity" would make the airlines the easy choice. YMMV
