  1. It just requires a one time meeting with the AG to clear things up, so as long as you've got that scheduled, NBD.

  2. This. Ground commanders who grew up mostly or entirely in a COIN fight are having to relearn this at NTC/JRTC right now. It is critically apparent with smaller lighter ground units like light infantry and Stryker infantry that they fully expect to just hold air power in their hand like the trump card for when they encounter hostile Armor or are counter attacked. Problem is they have no understanding of threats to our operations and are myopic in prioritizing fires or EW to enable those combat air assets. The other issue people are missing out on is the airspace coordination piece. If you have to get up close and personal with targets ala Hawg with the 30, you are putting yourself into the same area as all the gun target lines and support fire positions a ground force in a near peer/peer fight is going to not only have but need to be using especially if your threat defeat tactic is to get low. Not a lot of that to worry about in Syria/Iraq/Astan with the hybrid SF/Ranger driven fights we are waging. If they have indirect it's pretty limited. A Brigade or Battalion movement to contact is going to have multiple PAAs and transitioning them to perform CAS may actually have a negative effect on the total battle area because we shut down fires or suppression or smoke. It also requires a higher level of knowledge from the ground commanders to make sure they don't F themselves and more importantly you/me in only leaving us options of in/egress that are poor to terrible because they used up all the other airspace for their stuff. No we are not ready to fight a high threat CAS fight, because we aren't ready to fight a high threat Joint fight, because conversely we aren't ready to fight a high threat ground fight. It's that integration on the battlefield and institutional knowledge that's really going to screw us now, not the fact we have point nose fast air planes or ones that carry a bigger stick but go slower. 3. I guess it's true: there really is no such thing as a no-shit free lunch.

  4. Hey guys, we have been doing a lot of $0 cost VA IRRRL loans for people with where rates are right now at NBKC. And quite a few conventional refinances as well where we cover the actual costs (not rolling in the fees or anything like that). So it's definitely possible to find out there. You are all talking about the right things, there is a big difference between rolling in all the costs into a larger new loan where a lender says "no out of pocket costs" and actually having the lender cover all of your costs which is the true "no cost loan".

  5. That was extremely careless, but I wouldn't worry. I don't think the FBI will care.

  6. Really dude? You are asking random people on BO.net a Tax Law question. Try asking a Tax Professional, or keep asking us and hope you can continue to post from Federal Pound Me In The Ass Prison when you are sent there for tax evasion. Oh, and to answer your question... No, you can't.

  7. My wife and I follow Dave Ramsey's style of money management and are very secure in doing so over the years. We have a nice amount saved up, a great budget which allows us to live comfortably, yet save a lot of money towards our future. That said, I'm not banking on the military retirement should the benefits not be there, or should I choose to separate before 20. Rental houses can be a tricky investment, as well as prescious metals. I don't do either of those because I have seen relatives and my current landlord handle multiple houses and have no time off. The possibility of having terrible tenants rent your place is high, and you will likely have a lot of work to do on your weekends. A solution to managing it yourself would be to have a company do that for you. It's not to say you cannot make some extra money, but it's not for me. One of the other things we do is open up money market accounts to save larger amounts of money towards our emergency fund, car fund, and house fund. I'm not planning on buying a house while in the military and just saving money into the house fund. My goal will be to have enough to pay for a a portion or the entire house (~150-200K) after retirement. Following this plan allowed me to pay for a car in cash recently, and it was a great feeling walking away from the dealer owning the car outright with zero debt. This style is not for everyone, but I like it because it makes my wife feel secure while I am away working, and when we need to make purchases that are large. I'm willing to answer any serious questions, but I'm not a big investment guy other than my IRA and my kids' education funds. I do most of my investing through USAA and they are great. I have also heard wonderful things about Vanguard, and am looking towards moving my Roth IRA in that direction relatively soon. I laughed at this, but have found this to be very true when talking about investments with friends/family. I never bring up the subject, just like I don't like talking about religion, politics, because it's pointless. However, I don't mind mentioning the Dave Ramsey stuff to others. You'll find that most folks have no savings of any kind, which is pretty scary. There isn't a lot of financial accountability among our populace, much less our government but I don't want to digress.

  8. The money for your increased pilot bonuses will have to come from somewhere. Keep this and the House's increased bonus number to $60K (plus the monthly $1K- wow!), and you have a sustainable program. Not sure why the pilots are complaining. I know, I know, it's what you do best.

  9. Question for the masses. Getting ready to PCS and want to free-up my VA loan eligibility which is tied up in a house that is being rented. With appraisal I have 20%+ equity. Can I refi that VA loan into a conventional with no pmi and then use my va for another house?
