  1. They're fighting it because administering a system to monitor every single servicemember's lease or mortgage will cost more than just giving people a flat rate. We have data on this system (OHA); there is no need to run this experiment. We already know that if you don't let people keep the "unspent" BAH, they will go and find a more expensive place. This already happens with literally every servicemember living offbase overseas. We are about to take the shitty system where we buy new flat screens every September and multiply it buy the number of servicemembers living off base in the CONUS. I propose a different solution: let us keep our current BAH and I will report to the nearest US Mint with my flamethrower and incinerate several million dollars. The net result will be the same fiscally.

  3. This. Ground commanders who grew up mostly or entirely in a COIN fight are having to relearn this at NTC/JRTC right now. It is critically apparent with smaller lighter ground units like light infantry and Stryker infantry that they fully expect to just hold air power in their hand like the trump card for when they encounter hostile Armor or are counter attacked. Problem is they have no understanding of threats to our operations and are myopic in prioritizing fires or EW to enable those combat air assets. The other issue people are missing out on is the airspace coordination piece. If you have to get up close and personal with targets ala Hawg with the 30, you are putting yourself into the same area as all the gun target lines and support fire positions a ground force in a near peer/peer fight is going to not only have but need to be using especially if your threat defeat tactic is to get low. Not a lot of that to worry about in Syria/Iraq/Astan with the hybrid SF/Ranger driven fights we are waging. If they have indirect it's pretty limited. A Brigade or Battalion movement to contact is going to have multiple PAAs and transitioning them to perform CAS may actually have a negative effect on the total battle area because we shut down fires or suppression or smoke. It also requires a higher level of knowledge from the ground commanders to make sure they don't F themselves and more importantly you/me in only leaving us options of in/egress that are poor to terrible because they used up all the other airspace for their stuff. No we are not ready to fight a high threat CAS fight, because we aren't ready to fight a high threat Joint fight, because conversely we aren't ready to fight a high threat ground fight. It's that integration on the battlefield and institutional knowledge that's really going to screw us now, not the fact we have point nose fast air planes or ones that carry a bigger stick but go slower.   7. Hi from Marty, The problem in our business is that the person you talk to may or may not know what other lenders are doing as is the case here. I employ 13 processors and have 5 brokers as well. We DO give a lender credit for the VA funding fee as well as all costs. You need a 640 or better credit score to do an IRRRL. I simply add up the costs and then set the lender credit to equal the costs PLUS the funding fee. Lenders do NOT want to offer these credits because they risk having to repay them if you sell or refinance within 6 months. Most lenders state no cost, but they mean no lender fees, or no out of pocket costs. And most certainly do not include the VA funding fee into the equation.   9. I did what you're thinking about doing but then found out that you can only restore your entitlement once if you hold onto the original property. Now I'd have to sell both properties if I wanted to restore it. Doing the 2 VAs under the same entitlement seems preferable if you have enough entitlement left to do it. "One-Time Restoration. If you have paid off your VA loan, but still own the home purchased with that loan, you may apply for a one-time only restoration of your entitlement in order to purchase another home that will be your primary residence.   12. Hi all, first off I cant say thank you enough to all those that have posted in the past and helped me grasp what the process of off the street ANG pilot selection is like. I can now say first hand that with motivation and perseverance anything is possible. I have been in this process for a tad under 2 years and was just selected to fly the f-16. I took 3 interviews, 2 afoqts (both were not out of this world by anymeans)2 tbas tests and a few weekend trips to SQ, but it finally paid off. The 3 top points I can share are 1- Rush Units, Show up get to know the pilots, but more importantly let them get to know you. 2-Dont let anyone tell you NO! but understand that to get to where you want to be (Fighters, Heavy, Helo) you have to put in the work to get there. No one you meet who have succeeded in this were handed anything, they busted there butts to get where they are and continue to do so, you should do the same.(for me the real work is about to star AMS UPT etc. ) 3-Be Yourself, I cant stress this enough. anyway feel free to pm me for more info on any of my experiences id be happy to share what ive learned.
