You just described the rated problem perfectly! How many 6-12 month deployments to do some stupid job that anyone could do... But instead let's make pilots do it.

The fighter pilot shortage is real, but the shortfall could be significantly reduced IMHO if the AF did an honest scrub of fighter requirements. And I'm talking about requirements going away, not getting transferred to another AFSC. NAF-level Stan/Eval shops for example...what would you say they do here... In my experience, they just duplicated effort and got in the way. My staff job as an 11F was training Joint Operations Center staffs around the world....completely unrelated to my AFSC and something I had no prior experience doing -- total waste of 22 months. And overseas deployed billets that "require fighter pilot experience" frequently don't. Kill all those worthless 'requirements' and we might close the gap on the shortfall a bit.

I think a large part that is missed in this theorized scenario... How long before the Military command structure (like the civilian one) and more importantly the support structures completely fractures. Personally I see a lot of mass defections with government property going on in a real post major break up of the country. Especially if it has to do wi a mass attack/crises like some EMP knocking out the power or terror strike that beheads the government resulting in regional fracturing. People are gonna stop getting paid. Some may be doing this for God and country and all but a lot of troopers, airmen, etc are not going to go marching into work to fix he strategic problems when civil disorder abounds and they can't get money to buy diapers and groceries. I think you'll see stuff in the Armories that can be carried off by hand disappearing quick, and the bigger stuff breaking down fast and being left where it sits for lack of logistics. Essentially our military capability would look like a lot of our 3rd/2nd world partners who buy nice stuff but can't seem to keep it running.

Of late the threat of an EMP still seems plausible but the Cyber attack possibility of incapacitating the government for some period of time is getting more real or Cyber manipulation / blackmail, real or manufactured. This could be an interesting inject from White Cell in Military / LE exercise practicing DOMOPs - your first world AOR just became loosely / not governed, proceed.

Heads up on the GI Bil if using it for your kids college. They will need to sign up for their own account on the Veterans benefit site so a Certificate of Eligibility can be generated. If you get this done early, it makes the financial wickets easier to run.

Thanks. So it seems like 100 would be a realistic minimum if I'm looking at worst case scenario. 4380 (AD) + 800 (ARC) = 5180 / 360 = 14.39 x 2.5% = 36% x $7319 (O-4 w/ 14 yrs) = $2685

There is a very easy fix for all of this general/flag officer personal misconduct but, sadly, it will never be implemented. If a GO/FO gets cashiered for personal misconduct, the service should lose that GO/FO billet for 3 years. With this, you know that shit would get fixed literally overnight. Screening and selection would instantly double in rigor. Afterall, maintaining GO/FO billets is are among the services' highest priorities...

I forgot how painful the Air Force can make flying. We have airplanes. They have an airport. Go do that pilot shit.
