  1. I lived between the mountains and the south gate. Most are smaller yards (most are around .2 acre lots), but if you're willing to move into an older house, there are lots of options a little over 1/4 acre. Nice area, short commute, good schools, and still quick access to the mountains. Exactly 30 minutes from my door to the ski lift. Even if you live in Morgan, you're not going to be walking distance to the lift or trails, so much less time than that didn't make much difference to me. That being said, if I moved back, I would primarily look in east Layton (east and SE of the south gate) and maybe some in Morgan.

  2. I don't disagree with your sentiment or that of your dad, but in the name of accuracy--- those aren't titles of the CSAF reading list. Those are featured TED talks. The books are Here. And they're mostly pretty good.

  3. So on a somewhat separate note, I was curious if any of you have seen this yet? I have a bit of a personal interest in military history, tactics, strategy etc... and I thought I'd like to do a little reading up on the topic. I thought to myself, no need to reinvent the wheel, surely there is a shortlist of must reads that already exists on this topic to get me started. Then I remembered one of the CSAF AF wide emails that referenced a reading list. A short google search later and here it is. Thing is, I'm honestly not surprised, but it just put it in a new light. I text the link to my dad who served in the 70s and 80s. His response, "ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? ing pussies all of them!!!!" Couldn't have said it better myself. Reality hits you hard bro. https://static.dma.mil/usaf/csafreadinglist/index.html For anyone who doesn't take the time, a quick summary of some of the leading titles How to Overcome our Biases? 4. Jack Reacher was ok. Lots of the "Tom Cruise Run" and dude is starting to show the age in close ups. 80's schloky fights, bad guys, dialogue and plot. Really a retro film. C+

  5. I would live east of the mountains to get out of the inversion layer (assuming Ogden has one like SLC). Some place around Morgan or Huntsville. Outdoor activities there are endless. If you want to be closer, look for something on the bench which is a bench created by a prehistoric lake (Bonneville Lake, hence the Bonneville shoreline trail) that runs along the entire Wasatch front.

  6. Was there from 2012-2015. Lived in Shadow Valley area of South Ogden. Loved the area. Close to Weber State University, Weber Canyon entrance to get to Snowbasin, and literally a minute jog to the trail head for Mount Ogden or the Bonneville Shoreline trail. Great hiking and mountain biking. The Ogden housing market is taking off right now. Bought my place in Dec 12 and sold in Apr 15 for $40k profit. This neighborhood in particular is a good one for real estate but not many house for sale...my yard was .48 acres...enough to make me hire a yard guy. Decent food options in this part of town but limited... Pie, Greek place (can't remember name), Hug-Hes Cafe. Downtown Ogden is regenerating. It has a lot of great areas and a few areas that need improvement. But for the most part has some great local restaurants (Slackwater, Sonora Grill, Tona, Roosters) and some cool bars too (Funk N Dive, Lighthouse, Slackwater). Farmington is a good up and coming area...but chains are there too. Mountain green is awesome. But remote. Lots a Reservist live up there...never had issues getting to work that I know of. Jealous...wish I could go back. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

  7. Nothing says USMC fighter pilot quite like flying a nub with a PVC pipe extension from the back seat.

  8. Pretending the comment above doesn't exist.... I highly recommend the GoPro 4 Silver.... It's nice because it has the screen on the back. Also recommend purchasing from the BX and getting the protection plan. My Gp4 Silver got crushed en-route to the 'stan and the protection plan replaced it, no questions asked!

  9. What were they thinking? T-1s are no place to prepare new pilots for a large airplane or the CRM that goes with it.

  10. How, in today's information age, could this even be a question? Is your leadership's office located under a rock? On the moon? The fact that this kind of buffoonery still exists in broad daylight... Your leadership should be publicly identified and provided counseling behind the nearest woodshed. I'd love to know what base/wing, but that would unnecessarily highlight you. FFS...

  11. The Air Force does NOT care about you, they care about increased health care costs as it impacts the bottomline. The way the seniors spew the core values is ohhh sooo Ironic given the lasted indicators. Internal memos calling to relax standards at Fighter RTUs...relax PT standards...what next...drug standards. The way we manage people is absolutely laughable.

  13. Inelgible for WIC? I've know 2-3 FAIPS that went to WIC, and they didn't even need the waiver becuase they made IP in their first Ops tour post FAIP tour. I've also known non-FAIPS who needed the waiver and those got approved. Anything is possible... Cheers, Cap-10

  14. As a follow-up question: how feasible is it to go to AFIT as a pilot? I'm very interested in one of their masters programs, but it seems to me that getting an in-residence masters as a pilot would be difficult. Thank you!

  15. I am an AFROTC cadet graduating in May with a pilot slot, I was curious if anyone had info on how EAD and pilot training dates work? Can you request dates to go to pilot training/EAD? Can you trade dates with other pilot slot selections? I am asking because I would like to use up my full year before I EAD so I can get my masters. Thanks in advance for your response!
