"Flight discipline" is one of those catch all phrases that when I see in an FEF I call the EP and ask what really happened. Its not the red flag you think it is. Could be a big deal, could be nothing. Importantly, a Q3 for flight discipline in AETC could easily be a Q1E for judgement in SOF...... so, get over yourself. And I say that in a polite way. I get that you think something unfair happened. It's common unfortunately, but it still sucks. Sorry. However, going after the other guy is extremely poor form.4 points

The fact that things may have been worse at some point in the past should not be allowed to be used as an argument to justify idiotic policies in the present.2 points

Not that this is any comfort, but what do you expect? We can't even get our end strength numbers correct, much less select people for airframes at the right time and in the right proportions. FAIPs getting screwed on the FAIP drop is nothing new. People in the Air Force getting screwed through the assignment process happens all the time. I've had Studs deserve fighters more than a shitty FAIP and get sent to some other less desirable assignment on his list, while watching a FAIP who shouldn't even get a Buff go to a fighter. Life isn't fair and your desires only matter if it lines up with what the Air Force desires for you. I don't see this changing either unfortunately. Having said that I know several B-52 guys who have gone on to B-2s, WIC and ended up making the best of a situation they didn't deserve. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums2 points

I saw some awesome T-6 faips get Q3'd sime years back for doing std pilot stuff but their CC was a CYA careerist d-bag so they got screwed. When I was in AETC some fatty driver clown recommended me with a Q3 for doing a unrestricted climb during a UCI which got quickly disregarded by fighter leadership but you see how this crap works. Bottom line is that AETC is a shitshow. Take the praise/punishment you see from those places lightly. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums2 points

You are asking for pain. Unnecessary, over-scripted, high threat (dialed back in the past few years, but nonetheless) pain. Why? Why are you getting into flying? Ego? Family pressure? Is Fun anywhere in the calculus? My recommendation: don't sweat UPT. Attitude is everything in that program. Every SIE or 89 elimination that I remember came down to attitude. My own ups and downs came down to attitude. Want to knock some of your flying rust off as a form of anxiety therapy? Do some fun learning. Good ideas: -get a Glider add on -tail wheel endorsement -upset training/acro lessons -local checkout to take the girlfriend for a sunset flight You're going to spend the next several years getting nut punched and occasionally asking if this is still fun. You are literally asking to practice your anxiety. Don't: get an instrument ticket or commercial training (see above) Coming from the guy that had all his ratings going in, and thankfully missed the IFT paintrain. And earlier this year we were non-voling Buff pilots to the MQ-9. This organization is such a clownshow.2 points

guys have been screwed a lot worse. it's not the first screw job by AFPC and it won't be the last. things could always be worse. my buddies that are in the buff didn't pick it #1 but they're making the best of it and actually like it now. they didn't have a shitty attitude and made it work. blasting another dudes check ride dirty laundry in a public forum is a fcking foul btw1 point

By the time this pilot is flying the viper, some Q3 in T6's will matter just as much as being caught for stealing the crayons in kindergarten. Enjoy your buff.1 point

Am I the only one who gives zero fvcks on which brand of faip you were? A faip is a faip and there are no virgins amongst the whores. A good attitude is where you make your money. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Ram, Thanks for the prospective. I talked to the PAS functional and he said that I would be in staff for 1 assignment and then back to my rated functional to be managed. Like you said, when I come back it's not necessarily going to be on my terms, and I'm starting to see that the huge lack of control I have over my path the next 10 years is part of what is making the airlines so appealing.1 point

Unless you're flying an f-16 and not a pussy. You can accelerate at 8-9Gs in a cleanish block 50. Don't be a pussy.1 point

That is what the Bomber FAM hinted at (he is a good dude unlike the previous one). If you look on the AFPC website for bombers, there is a call out to any MWS who wants to go fly BUFFs to contact him and it seems if you got released on your end, you would go fly the BUFF no problem. I do feel bad for the new bomber studs that just graduated UPT out of 38s that are here and or headed this way since T-1 guys can now fill this billet. Seems like a waste of a potential resource since we are in such a bad fighter crisis and we are sending dudes who are fighter qual'd to a jet that can be flown by anyone, IMO.1 point

1. You have 2 posts, and one of them is complaining about neg rep on your first post. So... maybe contribute, be positive, and stay on topic? 2. Your interests give me a "tool" vibe, just my opinion. (you edited this, looks a little better now) 3. If you had creeped a little while on the forums before joining, you would know that the "what are my chances of getting a fighter drop" has already been asked 69 million times before, and is almost always answered with "there is really no way to estimate how many fighters will drop, so just work your ass off in UPT and be a good bro." 4. If you get that viper drop, you're going to be flying with the same type of guys that are busting your ass on the forums. I'm not one of them yet, and I don't act like it. They are a tight knit group, and honestly have helped me understand a great deal about the flight training process, and the AF in general. 5. I've been told to 'shut the hell up' here too. It's not personal, and you shouldn't take it that way. Seriously, this community is filled with a bunch of successful fighter pilots, and is a great resource for everything you need to know. This weekend, I'm going to meet a couple fighter wannabes just like me, and it's only because of these forums... So just consider yourself lucky to be interacting with everyone here. ANYWAY, sorry to have derailed the thread... Back on topic: I'm also interested to see the next round of T-1 drops. It seems to me like they're moving toward T-38 guys getting only fighters or an A-10, while the T-1's fight over the 11B slots. If they are trying to mitigate the 11F AND 11B shortage, this seems like a pretty good way of doing it.1 point

Technically the viper, but to his credit he didn't even really claim it because it was only one assignment. One of his only conversations with me where I had to give him some credit. From what I recall, his assignments: FAIP, one Viper tour, aide-de-camp, school, nerd school, staff, then to Vance for touch-and-go as DO and his command. There was a late rate thrown in there for either post-USAFA (surprise) masters or something. That timeline reflects everything that is wrong with how we groom leaders: no operational experience, never credible in an MWS, several non-CAF/MAF assignments; he's basically a career ball-washer. Take a dude like that, thrust him into a flying command and its no surprise when he self-induces a dual compressor stall going out the top of the airspace and almost loses one of the jets. Complete shitshow.1 point

You are in pilot training, they have pubs there for you. Nothing above the abs if you are serious, jogging mixed with sprints, your G tolerance will go down as you work on it due to beating up the muscles. Stay hydrated, sleep good, save the coffee and cigs until you get good at AGSM and breathing. There is the summary.1 point

I'm glad you said so. Just skip UPT then and join us in the CAF, brah! Didn't you hear there's a fighter pilot shortage? Would you mind PMing me your name and contact info so I can get your orders hooked up for Weapons School? Thanks, brosaurus-rex.1 point

Calling casual Lts "crew chiefs" because they're helping out with some relatively basic flightline tasks is profoundly disrespectful to some of the hardest working people in the Air Force.1 point
-
I knew a couple guys that marshaled the jets out of parking/made sure they catch fire starting up. Wouldn't call them crew chiefs. 90% of the jobs are bs.1 point
-
Pretty sure this is not the case, anywhere. Driving the bread van doesn't make anyone a crew chief Giving 10% of them jobs (most of those jobs exist just so leadership can say exactly what you are) doesn't mean they're doing anything useful. Unless things have changed drastically, casual LT's are very much doing nothing for months on end Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Depends on what you want. Want to have to work until you are 57 then take the air tech job. You have to work until your MRA (minimum retirement age) if you want a decent retirement. Is the pay the same? Absolutely not, neither is the retirement. Me personally, the thought of working until I'm 57 at my guard unit makes me contemplate putting a large revolver in my mouth and pulling the trigger, but maybe your guard unit is better than mine.1 point

If it was publicly briefed wing wide, then why in your previous post did you say it was not public info? Either you're being overly dramatic because you feel like you got screwed, or you're trying to burn someone else to make yourself feel better, or both. Either way, pretty weak. It was publically briefed wing wide. Commander directed Q3s for flight discipline? As a FAIP you are a college graduate, a commissioned officer, as well as a trained instructor pilot. A ding for flight discipline should be a pretty big red flag. Not ultimately damning like you say. Agree with that. But not something swept under a rug and result in a bro getting screwed. I'll enjoy whatever aircraft I fly. Thanks though detective. Ps its never been a buff.0 points

FYI casuals are not really useless anymore. APTers (casual studs) are crew chiefs, admin across the base, and working actively. You can take leave but I don't want people thinking the aren't doing anything for months on end. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk-1 points

Hey, the good news is if you have a Q3 for flight discipline as a T6 dude you get vipers now. So push it up! But we better send that 38 bro to the buff. There is no justice. Drink up.-1 points

Hello everyone, I hope this post is under the correct thread. I am trying to get a fighter slot (f-16, 35, or 22). Now I am at a point if i should seek out active duty or reserves for UPT. Does anyone have any info about active duty fighter positions (such as if there is a shortage). I heard a lot of UPT guys are getting RPA at UPT for active duty. If I go active duty, I know I can score 1st or 2nd in my class and ask for fighter/ bomber track. On the reserves side, I am having troubling seeking a sponsors ship from fighter units (deployed, not looking for sponsorship, or even having trouble trying to get ahold of them). Does anyone have any advice for my situation? I have already been selected as an alternate for a fighter unit and I'm currently waiting for my F1C Physical. I'm just trying to pull some G's.... Thank you. Cheers austin-1 points
