  1. Drinking bourbon from the skulls of vanquished enemies after a day of strafing downtown Raqqa in my open canopy P-51. Obviously.

  2. Bingo. There's literally nothing to see here. Millions of NPS Airmen have gone through tech school without being able to drink in their dorms. The only real story is that Tony Carr's once excellent blog has devolved into a mouthpiece for the whiners.

  3. Interesting article. https://warontherocks.com/2016/11/offsetting-air-superiority-with-air-force-special-operations/ Not 100% on board but does beg the question (as a sidebar) whether or not we should develop / acquire new smaller SAM systems, good example being the Israeli SPYDER SAM system: or resurrect the SLAAMRAM?

  4. I think Spencer hits the nail on the head with the DFP being lack of black pilots to start with. I've been in 10 years and I can count the number of black pilots I've flown with on two hands and have a few fingers left over. Why they're not applying for pilot training, I don't know. If this is something Big Blue is interested in addressing, maybe we should stand up a few ROTC dets at HBCUs.

  5. 1) no idea what DCD means 2) on a paper voucher to get money to go to GTC you must mark the split disburse block and designate an amount; otherwise it goes to your bank account. Yes, your pay account normally has a designated bank account they send your normal pay to and your travel pay to. You normally set that up early in your career. 3) no idea where you live but most casinos happy to accept your bet or you could probably find some local hookers and blow to spend it on Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

  6. What "retirement benefits" come with the rank Lt Col? It has zero impact on your retirement pay which is a straight line calculation of the average of your top three years of pay. The only impact is on your blue ID card where it says rank. I remember a philosophical discussion last year among a few bros who pinned on O-6 but wanted to bail before wearing it for three years, one wanted to retire as an O-6 because he perceived a post-AF career advantage, the others were going to the airlines. I told them the only real impact of retiring as a Lt Col was you couldn't call protocol to get a DV room on base or park in the reserved parking at the Commissary/BX...which ironically at Hurlburt has now been converted to "E-3 and below parking" to complete the pussification of the Air Force. I pinned on O-6 at 19.5 years and stayed until 26, looking back I wish I had punched at 20. Answer question #1 and do the math, do NOT be afraid of the next chapter.

  7. I don't know CH, that's an odd thing for the average bro to say (no offense Slick). Perhaps he's using the term "mentorship" and referring to advocacy? Either way, I'm fairly certain the lack of a mentor or advocate will not adversely affect your chances of making O-5. If you have your AAD and IDE complete, I believe the I/APZ O-5 promotion percentage is in the high 90s (and it has been for a few years now).

  12. from reddit: "Hi everyone, active duty KC-10 Boom Operator with direct information. The aircraft had the boom gimble (attachment point of the boom to the fuselage) replaced a few weeks ago. Two days prior to this incident, a boom operator instructor experienced uncommanded boom inputs. The boom became erratic and hydraulic power was quickly cut and the boom was stowed. MX could not duplicate the issue on the ground, ran some ops checks, and the jet was greened up. Yesterday, as the jet entered it's orbit, the boom was lowered and immediately became uncontrollable. It was swinging beyond it's roll limitations and eventually ripped from the aircraft, causing a loss of the number 2 hydro system. The crew landed safely."
