  1. Ho, maybe these quotes will chill your whiskey. “If in order to kill the enemy you have to kill an innocent, don’t take the shot. Don’t create more enemies than you take out by some immoral act.” “We’ve backed off in good faith to try and give you a chance to straighten this problem out. But I am going to beg with you for a minute. I’m going to plead with you, do not cross us. Because if you do, the survivors will write about what we do here for 10,000 years.” “We will move swiftly and aggressively against those who resist, we will treat others with decency, demonstrating chivalry and soldierly compassion for people who have endured a lifetime under Saddam’s oppression. You are part of the world’s most feared and trusted force. Engage your brain before you engage your weapon." Granted, it's not the "bow and apologize to everyone" diplomacy that we've seen over the last 8 years. But, it is diplomacy. In my opinion, the right kind. Oh, and he said this when asked about why he banned unnecessary briefings under his command. “PowerPoint makes us stupid.” A man after my own heart, this one is.

  2. Ho, were it anyone other than General Mattis, what you said about the pol/mil balance would give me pause. However, I'm ok with having the "warrior monk" providing a balanced pol/mil line of thought to the conversation, and I think he's a perfect candidate for a waiver.

  3. As it should be. Trump's expertise only helps to bring back jobs, boost the economy, and end government meddling. As far as the military is concerned, there are plenty of good, strong leaders that Trump can put in high positions to take care of business on the military side so he can devote more time to the economy. To help with the elimination process, I'm hoping Mattis has all the candidates sit Indian-style in a circle and runs his palm across the top of their heads saying "Weak...... Weak....... Boot!". Then he gets to chase one around the circle, and I think you know what happens if he catches them. As far as the cigarettes and beers go...

  4. You forgot to mention that 2500 hours of international multi eng heavy jet is pretty much just two ops tours. Cross check that with hiring mins and the threat of a staff tour to backfill Joe Fighter Jock's staff billet and you've got a recipe for a pilot shortage. Everyone you talk to seems to be looking for the nearest exit...

  6. Cannon has had concealed carry (in your vehicle) on base for a few months as well. Ideally I still would like to carry in my building but I'll take what I can get. This place is a shithole and it's nice not having to worry about being legal going through the gate with my Glock. It made some people get their panties in a twist out here, because if your military all you have to do for a conceal permit is mail in your orders and get finger printed. I took advantage of this soon as a I moved here but I am a fan of having a required safety class to get a carry permit. A couple times a month I hear people talk about how they want to get a gun even though they know nothing about shooting and immediately start conceal carrying and it drives me nuts.

  7. That's the best thing I've seen in a while. I didn't even support the guy, but I'd love to have a poster of that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. I'm retired now so my view of the cards is dated. I tired to tell a LOT of senior folks this was coming and they did not seem concerned. Towards the end you could tell they were beginning to see how serious it was but it was too late for them to make real change. I heard lot of chatter from bros on the Airstaff and Stoploss was being discussed, but I don't know if they decided on a redline. Another previous MAJCOM commander commented that stoploss was a "viable retention tool"...he is retired now and I don't know if his views shared by the other seniors...obviously we all thought he was out of his mind, you can't stoploss folks until 20 years and the message it would send would only make the situation worse.

  9. Again, I don't recall much of a difference. I also don't recall it being too difficult to learn to land the 38. The issue with both the 38 and a GE powered Viper is being on the back side of the power curve before you're ready to shift your aim point and flare. If you have the power back you're gonna have a high sink rate when you shift your aim point down the runway. Best case you have a firm landing, worst case you swap ends and scrap the back end of the jet. That should be valid for any airplane but the 38 and GE powered Vipers have a little bit of delay spooling up compared to a Pratt powered Viper. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

  10. "If they don't like it, they can leave"...this is the same mentality that created the fighter pilot shortage.

  11. Won't change a thing. Base commanders/managers are going to see allowing concealed carry on base as a high-risk/no reward scenario that will jeopardize their careers. When previous Chief of Staff was asked about concealed carry at a base visit following the sea port shootings in CA, he spouted off the standard BS answer of 'how will law enforcement know who is the good guy and who is the bad guy when they arrive?' Easy sir, the bad guy will be the dead dude laying on the pavement and the good guy will be the guy standing over him with a holstered firearm asking the cops what took them so long to get there. Instead, we'll just have more of the same training about hiding under your desk and only confronting the bad guy when the barrel is on your temple.

  15. So, I need to get on here and eat crow. I bitched at length, and repeatedly, about not having Cyber people leading Cyber in my beloved AF. Well, I've had the please of interacting with the new 24 AF CC. He's a zipper suited sun god Viper driver. He's fucking awesome, link to bio - https://www.24af.af.mil/About-Us/Biographies/Display/Article/804882/major-general-christopher-weggeman He's applying his experience as an Viper driver to our cyber stuff and it's just...a breath of fresh air. It's fantastic in every way imaginable. No micro-managing, no "meet the deadline or else" BS, he cares what our cyber-operators are executing and will call BS, to 4-stars, if something/one attempts to impede that to turn a checkmark green. He also actually comes off as really liking this stuff beyond a "help make another star" attitude, or a time sink to retirement. The attitude on staff is... I don't even know how to describe it, beyond pretty darn good. I hope that AF doesn't screw this one up and move him out in a year or less. We really need some stability at the top, and I think he's the guy to right us. Shit, if he could run it until we move to Vigilance Command, it might work out very well. News flash: Space Operations ain't. Also someone makes jalapeno popcorn in the "heritage room"... how has this not moved out to the AF as a whole. That stuff is fantastic. P.S. - the vice is a good dude too - https://www.24af.af.mil/About-Us/Biographies/Display/Article/809210/brigadier-general-mitchel-h-butikofer

  16. Nice try, Obama! I'm a little less optimistic. It's going to be a long, hard road for anyone who wants to make changes to the current fvckery that is the political military. It's a disaster -- the Air Force knows it, the Navy knows it, the Army knows it, you know it, I know it (sorry had to counteract your Obama quote with a Trump quote)...
