On the other hand would it be better to have guys who know what a dead 18 year old looks like instead of all chickenhawks ,neocons and east coast elitists who have never served. VP Pence son is a Marine, I believe having skin the game comes a new way of thinking.5 points

Ho, maybe these quotes will chill your whiskey. “If in order to kill the enemy you have to kill an innocent, don’t take the shot. Don’t create more enemies than you take out by some immoral act.” “We’ve backed off in good faith to try and give you a chance to straighten this problem out. But I am going to beg with you for a minute. I’m going to plead with you, do not cross us. Because if you do, the survivors will write about what we do here for 10,000 years.” “We will move swiftly and aggressively against those who resist, we will treat others with decency, demonstrating chivalry and soldierly compassion for people who have endured a lifetime under Saddam’s oppression. You are part of the world’s most feared and trusted force. Engage your brain before you engage your weapon." Granted, it's not the "bow and apologize to everyone" diplomacy that we've seen over the last 8 years. But, it is diplomacy. In my opinion, the right kind. Oh, and he said this when asked about why he banned unnecessary briefings under his command. “PowerPoint makes us stupid.” A man after my own heart, this one is.5 points

I think that about nails it. All those men/women know what it's like to write the letters. I'll take my chances with them at the helm versus some academia shithead who doesn't know the first thing about the repercussions but has an itchy trigger finger.3 points

Speaking of range fun, got to participate in another night shoot south of San Antonio last weekend. While we were waiting on it to get dark, I decided to dig out the Yugo SKS and launch the M68 practice grenade for everyone's entertainment!2 points

It might. Watching the mid-tier leadership struggle with crew management issues when I think back to how you fliers do it is very frustrating. Can't figure out how to get a mission assigned and a crew tasked? Well.. fliers use PEX to track all those requirements...but we can't use that because "we're cyber" and "it's different." Brought up the idea of a scheduling office and was told that won't work because this cyber stuff requires de-conflicting clearances and access issues. Good to know you fliers don't have to deal with that sort of thing... Then they suggested contracting something like that out. Thankfully the Bro in charge was a flier and killed that idea painfully. I got <4 yrs left. I'm taking the $ and running. But I can't speak highly enough about our Reserve/Guard members. They're going to be the real leaders in the fight going forward and I think it's going to cause massive changes in how we're organized in the future. Much like flying, this isn't a field where technical proficiency is to be mocked. You've got 20 years hacking this particular device type? Fantastic, here's a boatload of money.2 points

Ho, were it anyone other than General Mattis, what you said about the pol/mil balance would give me pause. However, I'm ok with having the "warrior monk" providing a balanced pol/mil line of thought to the conversation, and I think he's a perfect candidate for a waiver.2 points

Agreed, while classes help, you're only going to get proficient by shooting as much as you can. And I don't mean standing at the range, aiming for three minutes and then pulling the trigger. That's fun for sport but not practical for a SHTF situation. I recommend IDPA or similar events that simulate self-defense scenarios and real life encounters. You'll find a huge difference when you're "scootin' and shootin'" and that center ring shots are not necessarily necessary in a life-or-death situation. IDPA utilizes cover and concealment as well as off-hand scenarios that will push your limits as a shooter. Luckily, while some are there to compete, many participate in such events simply to become better shooters! Here is a video of some of the scenarios IDPA utilizes at a range not far north of Randolph just to give you an idea of how their events work... For more info, check out their website: https://www.idpa.com/ Cheers! M21 point

Don't give PEX anymore power than it already does. As soon as it gets to Cyber it will become self-aware and schedule everybody for weekly Green-Dot training.1 point

Every contract is different; your experience is not universal. SNC contract MX at HRT is unbelievably amazing and they are making missions happen.1 point

Yes some contractors get the mechanics they pay for. I remember helping out a T-1 make a sortie on a transit ramp by just fixing a burnt out nav light. Vance mx came unglued since it was all about the contract. Altus is all civil service and hear good things about them. Remember contract mx is all owned by corporate interests and their only loyalty is to their stock holders. Plus don't blame the mechanics, blame the contracting squadron who signed off on a shit contract.1 point

As a current IP at Vance I'll be honest, MX with contractors is completely hit or miss. We have crew chiefs who are worth their weight in gold and then some but we also have people who were former greeters at Wal-Mart working on our jets. So you get a mixed bag of experience. Point in case I had an issue on my jet one day (engine out of RPM limits) and turned it back to maintenance, crew chief and supervisor both were surprised when I informed them of said issue, then I was surprised when both of them admitted that they didn't know the engine had RPM limits. Additionally we constantly run into an issue where the contractor keeps cutting people which leads to 6-9 of us just sitting in the chocks waiting to start until the crew chiefs can get to us because they're that badly undermanned. Finally contract MX sucks when it comes to non-standard issues. Example, we had a jet land at our aux field and shut down on the runway. Long story short they wouldn't let the fire department tow the jet clear because the contract stipulated that no one but them is authorized to touch the aircraft, so the jet just sat there all day. Worse is the OG/CC tried to get them to move the aircraft but their response was "not in the contract.". I could go on all day about the poor MX we have here but I won't. Granted I have limited experience with real AF MX but from my experience they've all been pretty professional and good at their jobs.1 point

I've seen said list, it's like 10 people with the same complaints that call 6-9 times a day. It's from a group called Tucson forward, bunch of socialist retards. The base has been around longer than they have been alive yet they still chose to live near it. Just do our alert scramble takeoff. Keep in on the deck to 400+ then climb at 45 degrees nose high at the end of runway, we get less complaints.1 point
