  1. A guy I know faced the standard ADSC shennanigans from AFPC for AFT a year or so ago and decided to just fill out his own ADSC form (FM 63 or whatever it is) and put "00 (zero) years" in the commitment duration spot and then put the verbiage about referencing note 1b right next to it. He signed it and sent it off and said it worked like a charm. A bit like a guy I read about who put down a 0% APR on his credit card application and had it approved. I thought it was a pretty crafty way to limit the headache of fighting with AFPC down the road. It sounded like AFPC primarily cares about having a signed copy of that form to complete whatever "checklist" they have and the folks doing it obviously dont QC what is on the form versus what should be on the form. I'll buy a case of beer for anyone that puts down "e^i*pi + 1".

  2. Kaeppernick is an idiot and exhibit A of why the BLM is doomed to fail just like the Occupy Wall Street movement fizzled out. You need an organizational structure and a charismatic leader who can be the focal point of the cause. If you have random idiots claiming to speak for the organization sending white people to the back of the protest or have a QB protesting then refusing to vote or engage the public/lawmakers in a meaningful way the entire organization loses any shred of credibility. The media will look for what plays best and of course the idiots come out of the woodwork with no coherent theme, strategy or media experience and it get ugly. If the NFL wants to bring viewer numbers back they need to cut down on the tv breaks. Driving down the field and call a timeout? Commercial break. 2 minute warning? Commercial break. Score a touchdown and it gets reviewed? Take a break. Kick the extra point? Take a break. After the kickoff? Take a break. It's insane and borderline criminal for any poor bastard watching the game on AFN. Thats why I loved watching soccer at the deid, no commercial breaks means less stupid commercials about the code of conduct or what the PA folks at Rammstein are doing this week. The arbitrary suspensions and horrible officiating doesn't help either. If viewer num bers held during a murderer, a rapist and a dog fighter taking the field I don't think enough people care about 2-3 players not standing. Hell thousands of fans in the same stadium won't even take their hat off during the national anthem and nobody says anything about them.

  5. Here's what I wrote to AFPC to get them to un-fvck their shenanigans. To save future bros like me the time, please feel free to copy/paste: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ALCON -I received this message in error. My pending flying training is a requalification course in the F-XX. Per AFI36-2107, Table 1.1, Item #16 (Advanced Flying Training), note 1 applies.According to note 1b: "All manned or unmanned pilots, navigators, and air battle managers who began aviation service after30 September 1997 will not incur any additional Advanced Flying Training (AFT)/InstructorQualification ADSCs which extend beyond 6 or 10 years as applicable, of continuous or cumulative ratedservice. Rated service begins at the completion of training and awarding of wings for the rated specialty. They will still incur Permanent Change of Station (PCS), Professional Military Education (PME), andother non-AFT related ADSCs."Note C countermands Note B in the event that basic qualification is attained through AFT. However, because was previously qualified in the F-16, my AFT course is requalification training (not basic qualification training). Thus, Note C does not apply in my case.Because I have completed my 10 year ADSC pursuant to my completion of UPT, further assignment of ADSC for AFT would be in direct conflict with the AFI as quoted above.I understand that my PCS involves an ADSC (which I accept), but I refuse the AFT ADSC proposed in this case because it would violate the AFI. NOTE: THIS IS NOT A NOTICE OF REFUSAL OF TRAINING. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.V/R,Maj Xxxxxxxxxxxx ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  6. Tidbit; General Mattis will be our first Secretary of Defense "ever" that's single. General Mattis A.K.A. "The Warrior Monk" is a life-long bachelor, who has never been married and has no children. My recommendation; The first order of business for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, on day one, should be to get this dude hooked up/laid.

  7. I was just being facetious - I actually do appreciate the input. And you're right in a lot of ways - often times attitude is everything.

  8. It would better suit just about anyone. Much less bs, better qol, and you will have plenty of opportunities to travel especially if you go to heavy unit. I joined because I love to fly, travel and I wanted to serve my country. I now sit in a room and I sometimes "control" a computer screen that is 10,000 miles away. You will have much more control over your life. Consider it.

  9. Ram, Something that I think the reserves does very well is take the long view on things - they'll gladly sacrifice training opportunities for quality of life sometimes because they know they have to keep guys around for 10+ years. Your philosophy: It sounds great and probably maximizes the short term combat capability of a squadron. However, These types of priorities drive people out of the service completely and created the situation we're in today. The unintended consequences of your list read like this: 1. No cross countries, low levels, or taking students up to 50,000 feet. All gas must be used for maximum training. 2. Commitment is measured by metrics like time spent at the squadron, at squadron events, and early PME/masters completion. No slack will be given to those who "self select" themselves as non competitive. 3. Debrief until crew rest for the next day to catch all of the lessons. Friday pilot meetings begin at the end of the last debrief and last until every person has had a chance to tell us everything they possibly can. I know you didn't necessarily mean any of what I wrote, but I would suggest that you are not the first soon-to-be DO with that sort of philosophy, and look where that's got us. The paradigm needs to shift from crushing people for short term goals to creating a sustainable method to maintain a healthy fighter force. I do not think your path is the way.
