  3. So anybody else back to black boots and undershirts? I know, I didn't believe it either, but AFSOC just put out a sup to 36-2903 and the flight suit uniform now allows black boots and undershirt. I can't believe how happy that makes me. I can't link it now, but check it on e-pubs, scroll to page 112 and look at the notes at the bottom of the table a few pages later.

  5. Keep up the good work bro. Unless I'm mixed up, I saw you speak at a Laughlin UPT graduation where my unit had a couple Lts graduating last year. You're uniquely qualified to help our various causes from your pulpit. Don't let these bastards keep promoting each other...it's a cancer that's eating our organization from the inside out. https://www.airforcetimes.com/articles/mileygate-commander-promotion-letter I was stationed with/flew with/went to college with one of these guys that got wrongly burned in this fiasco. He's a great dude, and is still dealing with the after effects while Hastings is jockeying for his own promotion. I realize many things are probably out of your control, even at your level. Keep on keeping on my friend.

  6. Speaking of wheelguns... Just took delivery of a new Ruger Bisley "New Model" Blackhawk (.357/.38/9mm) convertible revolver w/5.5" barrel. (Promotional photo) I'm a fan of multiple caliber capable weapons since it increases the availability of ammo. Backyard range report: SIngle action is smooth and deliberate, with just enough tactile feedback to ensure you feel the hammer set without having to listen for a click, which can be difficult with good hearing protection on. Loading gate notch and trigger guard opening are large enough for gloved use. Ejector ram spring is smooth, but ejector's tang is a little small for tightly-stuck cases and will pinch a bit when you bear down on it. Grip is wide enough to provide stable base for both single hand grip, or Weaver-style teacup hold (it's a revolver, so other two-handed grip styles are not recommended as some damaging gas/powder escapes from the front of the cylinder--don't ask how I learned about that as a kid) 9mm kick is negligble -- not much more than 22MAG. .38 and .357 produce obviously more recoil, but the weighting and balance make it easy to keep the muzzle under control, even shooting off-hand. Cylinders are individually matched to the frame and numbered. Cylinders fit snugly, action is smooth, and with loading gate open, you rotate the cylinder forward (to the right) to load/unload...but there's a catch in this model that permits a slight reverse motion to perfectly center the chamber in the gate (great for aligning the ejector perfectly during unloading too) Sights are adjustable, and after a little tweaking, were dead on at 10 yds--I covered two of my 3 shot groups with a silver dollar. I shot both factory and reloaded ammo. No major difficulties at all (had several OLD 9MM reload rounds that would NOT seat in the chamber--likely due to case width at the bottom of the case--they fed fine in the Kimber 9mm 1911 though) Maintenance is straightforward--empty chambers, remove cylinder, boresnake chambers and barrel, re-assemble and wipe clean and sheened with your favorite oil/lube. At a gunshow I bought a convertible leather holster (crossdraw vertical shoulder, horizonal shoulder, vertical chest, slanted chest) from a local leathermaker. I also have a nylon drop leg holster and a typical gunbelt--the pistol rides nicely in all. As a matter of personal taste and practicality, I don't recommend non-crossdraw hip holsters for big revolvers...its a challenge for me to draw a long-barreled pistol from a hip holster, but you can find them. I also don't use the "western" gunbelt often, since I find the chest holster more convenient but it does fit and draw well from a gunbelt too, so knock yourself out, Overall, It's a fine, versatile wheelgun that's a pleasure to shoot. If anyone cares: it was $599 N.I.B. at auction on gunbroker, (+3%+$25 shipping= $642 +$45 xfer fee)...so any price under $650 after tax at a gunshow or local dealer would probably be about right (for 2017) (STS in there a couple times)

  12. Bringing this topic back up looking for answers in regard to FEB Waivers. I'm going to leave specifics of airframe, etc... out, however if knowing those specifics will help you answer my questions feel free to shoot me a PM. The short story however is, I am facing an FEB from a B Course for failing to meet training standards. But it looks like I am going to be offered the option to take an FEB Waiver. I saw that FEB Waivers were mentioned earlier in the thread, but what I specifically want to know is, do you have any sort of control over what air frame you may follow on to if you take the FEB Waiver? The reason I ask is apparently the last dude who went through an FEB where I am ended up going to RPAs. Now apparently he did not get offered a waiver and actually went to the board, and I also don't know what the official recommendation from the board was, but it's still a bit of a worrying result. I saw an earlier post in here mentioned "the terms of the waiver are generally acceptance of an ACC heavy." But I was curious if this was something written into the wavier, or something discussed afterwards and preferences are then given to AFPC? Or is it possible that you are purely up to the whims of AFPC? Edit: I guess I should also mention I am a UPT to B Course guy, so the waiver would result in a reassignment, and not a return to a previous air frame or AFSC. Thanks in advance for any help!!

  17. No, we do not have a servicing department. Most lenders do not either except for larger banks and mortgage investment companies. Typically these result in higher costs because of their overhead, but everyone has a different business model. Quick behind the curtain mortgage class...big to small lenders don't have the billions of dollars needed to hold every loan in their portfolio so almost every loan is sold to Fannie, Freddie or Ginnie. The big three buy all the mortgage notes then package all the mortgages together into big $$ securities that conform to specific investment standards. They are then sold to all types of investors as mortgage backed securities. This allows us as your lender to reuse the money that we previous lent to fund new mortgages thus boosting the economy. Even if you do a mortgage with a big bank and get your monthly bill from them (servicing) they likely have already sold your mortgage to one of the big three. All they are doing is servicing the loan so they continue to make some money off you since the big three do not do servicing. Hope that helps! Marty

  20. I wrote this while deployed after watching "good kill". Lots of words, some of them funny. I rented good kill from itunes the other day, and within the first 5 minutes i was p1ssed off. I thought the only good that could come from this movie is to reign in its bullsh1t by correcting the inaccuracies. I am exceptionally qualified to offer such corrections, as the film is a biography- melding the personalities of ###-### and myself to form the protagonist maj Eagan (coincidence?). please enjoy and learn from the following first five minutes: you can't hear jet noise in the GCS unless you flew your droid into a wormhole where it was teleported within earshot of the parking lot of creech and you buzzed yourself. Unless the government has invented wormhole-proof datalinks, the driod would immediately lose connection. further, the mq9 is a turboPROP. The least the producers could have done is dubbed in some droning propeller noise for accuracy but these are the same clowns who took footage of maj Eagan dancing on the rudder peddles like he's sweetening up a guns kill at WIC. NO ONE touches the rudder peddles unless you dropped your can of chew, and even then I'd use a pencil or some other inanimate object to fish out whatever fell behind those funny looking foot peddles. The opening scenes also show the driod at 9k AGL or something ridiculous. You might as well send in a 4 ship of vipers because they'd have the same noise signature at that alt. Other stupid shit in the first five minutes: the camera doesn't click- it's not a polaroid the sensor operator doesn't talk enough about world of warcraft The people in the back of the GCS talk way too much not enough awkward silence. minute 6: a car with unknown occupants (collateral) rapidly approaches from the north. Eagan and the SO get all worked up in a dither because they can't "take the shot" if it's within their FOV- never mind actual CDE numbers. Jezus, if it's the FOV they're worried about why don't they drop that bird down another couple thousand feet or just zoom in-problem solved. anyway, Eagan is in such a hurry that he expeditiously counts down from three to zero before he shoots his hellfire. He's not launching the space shuttle atlantis, therefore you don't need a stupid countdown-just shoot the weapon. However, you would be surprised how many tools would practice their counting skills before shooting a missile in the UAV world. It was a habit I tried and failed to break and i see it made it all the way to Hollywood despite my best efforts. minute 7: Rando lt col busts in the GCS to blather on about what a great strike it was and barks random orders. then exclaims "careful eagan, you're beak to beak with an mq1" and the sensor ball magically picks up some other driod trundling through the airspace faster than an IRST sensor could have. There's a lot wrong with this, like why would the mq1 be co-alt while entering the stack, but then i thought it was probably some JSTAR pilot sent to driods so that made sense. the most irritating thing was the colonel being there to begin with. You ever heard of CRM? don't mess with it and GTFO of the GCS. minute 8: the movie shows some place that is not creech AFB. there are few HumVees at creech yet in the movie they drive around like it's Baghdad circa 2004. Eagan makes a right turn out of the gate to go home. He either lives in reno (nope), the director was practicing good opsec (absolutely nope) or they consulted no-one about this movie other than some tin-hat clown on chemtrails.net about military accuracy. Eagan is then shown cruising through vegas in fancy classic car. The car is accurate-plenty of heart broke aviators tried to subdue their pain with large purchases. one need look no further than your's truly to see what happens when a figher pilot tries to replace all he's lost with large ticket toys (mooney, sports car, electric hoverboard skate thing), but no one lives south of the 215 that goes to creech because the drive is too damn long and costs more money over time. you'd rather spend that money on Avgas or up your montly on your pittycar than waste it on an extra half hour of commute time one way by living near the strip. On the plus side, his wife is accurately bummed out when eagan announces he's moving to nights. you may as well be TDY for 7 weeks. back to the inaccuracies: Eagan then refuses his wife's advances. bullsh1t. Nothing is more satisfying than wasting terrorists then going for a role in the hay. no current or former fighter pilot turns down the advances of his wife/girlfriend - ever. Eagan then drives to work the next day via las vegas blvd. I don't even take LVBVD when i'm on the strip because the traffic is so awful, let alone use it as a thoroughfare. minute 9:15- lt col says "fvck" in his welcome brief- would be instantly fired. lt col talks about how hard it is to take off and land these "birds". WRONG. many pilots have demonstrated that they can't land their previous airframe but can land the MQx just fine. minute 10: six to nine more "fvck" from the lt col during brief. Dishonorable discharge for sure. "3k viper hours as a major?". this has never happened. There are no co-pilots in UAVS- there is a pilot and a sensor operator. Let me rephrase that- there are plenty of co-pilots in the UAV community who spent 5 years in whatever platform they came from and were never upgraded, but as far as duties within the UAV community, there are no co-pilots. The new "co-pilot" is touted to have 500 hours in the MQ-9. 500 whole hours!!!! average day = 7 hours of "flight" time. that's about 80 work days of experience. Whew, the day is won and we can all relax. Eagan asks "what's the lag at?" Well Eagan, it's probably exactly the same as what they told you in the TX course and it hasn't changed since ever. But maybe I'm pessimistic and today is the day that the USAF paid general atomics a gagillion dollars to solve that latency problem. It seems like all the shots are around 10" TOF. either they doubled the size of the rocket motor on the hellfire and they now cruise through the sky with the speed of a meteor or the bullsh1t factory that is hollywood just got away with another doozie. The lt col is still nervously hovering about. I've seen leadership hover inside the GCS. when you're out of bodies and all you have left is the C130 navigator to put in a kenetic situation, godd@mn right leadership makes sure he arms the weapons and doesn't set the autopilot to roll inverted and stay there until it's out of gas while permanently shutting off the datalink but Eagan is a superstar, so seeing the boss hover around (and even give clearance) makes me more annoyed. 17:00 - choppers at creech. no one lands there except the thunderbirds with EPs because real pilots don't like the uncomfortable looks they get from a thousand heartbroke aviators. It's like bringing chipotle to refugee camp in Somalia and not having enough for everyone. 21:00 someone asks eagan "i heard you want to go back to combat". And i heard that octo-mom isn't a virgin. 26:00 lt col still hovering about, giving clearance to engage and pi$$iing me off about the whole bullsh1t hollywood establishment. 26:30 "3 2 1, rifle" good grief. 29:00 after whining about being a droid pilot, Eagan's boss tells him to take the day off. I'm delighted that the manning situation has improved so much that they can give days off to disgruntled majors who can't handle the stress of sitting in a chair for 8 hours a day. 33:00 enter the CIA, who apparently thinks that in between hellfire shots is the best time to discuss foreign policy with combative droid crews. 35:00 there's some doubt as to whether Eagan can make the shot happen due to turbulence. that's like asking me if i can still do a good carrier landing on a veneer table top vs marble- it doesn't fvcking matter. 36:00 cafeteria food at creech- WRONG. they had a casino next door that served good food but the AF demolished it. they have your standard bullshit subway, but most importantly there is a delicious Korean restaurant on base (I know, WTF, right?) that has decent seating outside. 43:00 mouthy sassypants good-looking sensor operator opens her lippy piehole again with her politically driven vitriol and asks "what are we, Hamas?" well ms sassypants, maybe we are, it depends on who our enemies are at the time. If we're fighint ISIS, then I suppose we are on the same side as Hamas. If we're securing bagdad in 2003, then no, we want to kill Hamas and the other Shia militias but she nor hollywood has any idea nor do they give a sh1t. 45:00 more political discussions than capitol hill. shutting the fvck up WRT political viewpoints is a survival mechanism almost all of us have developed after our first 6 months in the military but having a stoic disposition and com discipline doesn't sell movie tickets. 47:00 the "date" between ms sassypants and eagan is awful. If I could have taken my wife up for an f-16 ride like eagan claims he did, just think of all the money I could have saved had I not had to court her and get her to look past my ginger good looks without the expensive dog-and-pony shows at nice restaurants and spontaneous, impromptu, fun, rebellious dates. "hey wife, just strap in the back seat of this D model and stand by for marriage". Fvck you hollywood. 48:00 "the thrill of landing an f16 on a carrier". Hollywood, fvck you. the whole date with ms sassypants is bullsh1t. I saw several officers lose their sh1t (and careers/families) because they submitted to the siren's call of ms sassypants. pretty hard to get a job as a washout uav operator with paperwork. 54:00 when egan "turns off the video recorder", he is actually turning off the pilot and sensor consoles of the GCS. Hollywood got away with another one. 55:00 eagan is texting in the GCS. this isn't the ops desk at base x-cell phones are not allowed. 59:00 and the rest of the movie- they've finally found a way to make that elusive hover-mode work. 1:05 Hollywood sends eagan on a huge pitty-party around this time, where he confesses to his wife that he blows everyone up to include the attendees at funerals. It's so full of bullsh1t the septic tanks here at base-x have less fecal matter in them. but during this whole time what pis$es me off the most is Eagan has been wearing his leather jacket the whole time, in vegas, in the summer. Bro, i get it. Those jackets look SHARP and I love my custom jacket from dark-horse more than any man should love a piece of clothing. but if you want me to listen to your bullsh1t about how you kill women and kids, don't distract me with your wardrobe. 1:22 I was blown away when i noticed a small detail in the briefing room- the 8 point orbit drawn on the white board!!! that is accurate, as were some of the other things drawn on the board. These clowns talk about landing f16s on carriers but had the hired expertise to accurately draw stuff on the whiteboards? I'm so confused right now. 1:23 ms sassy pants has to be told twice to turn the laser on. weird how I've never had to tell my index finger twice in the viper. 1:29 sh1t looks pretty bad for eagan. his wife left him, he's never going back to the viper. looks like it's time to execute plan B: "Plan B" is when you target your own GCS with a hellfire missile. think about it, it's some existential, deep futuristic sh1t. 1:30 eagan stops drinking after his wife leaves him. Wife=drinking problem. The rest of the movie is full of more horrible inaccuracies, and we all remember the "i'm still first class" line of crap ms sassypants ends her hollywood debut with. Of note, he turns off his "video recorders" (GCS) again and shoots that bearded crazy at the end of the movie. never mind that there was no laser energy guiding the weapon. Finally, at the end of the movie, he makes a left turn leaving creech. I was relived that the producer finally got something right but not 14 seconds later he's in Reno. Verdict 2/5 stars. the two stars come from the accurate portrayal of the compensating-for-somethin car and the 8 point orbit drawn on the white board. the rest is sh1t. 22. - Status of repealing Obamacare? - Status of introduced 50-state reciprocity bill and likelihood of both Houses passing? - BAH shenanigans (see the thread and get McCain to an old folks home) - Re-opening F-22 line? - Chances of getting the budget anywhere controlled? -edited to add - how about a lil friendly Congressional enquiry to the AFDW/CC regarding his General Order #1? That seems both ludicrous and has overtones that are scary.

  24. I think you could make the case that direct election of the Senators makes them less accountable to the people, because the constituency has become those bankrolling the campaign. When there are two seats per state at a term of six years, wealthy people/corporations can find it easily palatable to throw their full weight behind a candidate that they'll then have an in with.

  27. I'm shocked. Guess GC and his cronies have it all figured out. I can't thank dipshits like him enough. As a 2nd year UAL guy now, I pick up a 3% pay raise in Jan, which on average months, nets me 150% what I made as a AD Major. In Feb I get a nice 4.4% raise again (thanks DAL bubbas). Then, in mid-Feb I'll receive a profit sharing check that exceeds GC's entire monthly pay, whatever his rank actually is. Shortly thereafter I hit year 3 and pick up another 23% pay hike. On top of it all, I average over half of the month off and currently live three miles from Lake Tahoe. My family finally has a home and is happy. Even my fu(&;ng dog is a happy camper. Life isn't perfect but it's pretty damn good and exponentially better than it ever could've been on AD. I do USAFR shit on the side because I want to and don't let it detract from my life. It doesn't pay and also doesn't interfere while still letting me do something worthwhile. There is no comparison between where I was and where I am. I didn't post to brag. I posted to help those facing such a grand decision and turning point in their lives. Take the leap. Life is good. If you don't, mama blue will be there to coddle you and GC will be there to continue ass probing you with big black veiny!

  28. The common ground has been there, but I just don't think the issues dominate politics today. It's a popularity contest. 2008: Dems masterfully slipped in the "first black President". He was the cool new guy and didn't fit the old, grumpy, lack-luster politician look that McCain had going on. 2012: Romney reeked of snobby rich guy, and Obama just put out the zingers during the debate and everyone drooled over the "cool-guy" persona again. 2016: The media shoves Clinton's "credentials" down our throat and calls her the "most qualified candidate in history" - just 4 years after telling us that being qualified wasn't "cool" and that we needed less politicians and more cool guys like Obama that treat the President's podium like a celebrity roast. Also, the moderates aren't in control of the media... So as a moderate Republican, all I hear is: -Don't want to jail/kill a cop for shooting someone who acted like they had a gun, or actually did have a gun pointed at the cop?-> Racist -Want to vet immigrants from a war torn country? -> Islamaphobe -Are you a successful straight white male? -> Everything was given to you. -Unsuccessful woman, gay, and/or black? -> You're not successful because the straight white male dominated system is out to get you.

  29. Hi all, first off I cant say thank you enough to all those that have posted in the past and helped me grasp what the process of off the street ANG pilot selection is like. I can now say first hand that with motivation and perseverance anything is possible. I have been in this process for a tad under 2 years and was just selected to fly the f-16. I took 3 interviews, 2 afoqts (both were not out of this world by anymeans)2 tbas tests and a few weekend trips to SQ, but it finally paid off. The 3 top points I can share are 1- Rush Units, Show up get to know the pilots, but more importantly let them get to know you. 2-Dont let anyone tell you NO! but understand that to get to where you want to be (Fighters, Heavy, Helo) you have to put in the work to get there. No one you meet who have succeeded in this were handed anything, they busted there butts to get where they are and continue to do so, you should do the same.(for me the real work is about to star AMS UPT etc. ) 3-Be Yourself, I cant stress this enough. anyway feel free to pm me for more info on any of my experiences id be happy to share what ive learned.

Here's how I see it: Option 1: You don't take the waiver and risk losing your wings or going to RPAs. Option 2: You take the waiver and probably go to AWACs. Is it really that hard of a decision?

  33. I disagree. Senators should be accountable to their constituency, just like all other elected officials. States are still given equal weight in the Senate, and the Senators are chosen by the citizens on each state. Even in a Republic, I think layers of separation between a constituency and their representatives create opportunity for misplaced loyalty, entrenched interests, and corruption. Plus, I wouldn't trust my state legislature to choose qualified senators - hell, I don't trust them to do much of anything but bicker and waste my money. I'm no scholar of the 17th amendment so I won't comment on your assessment. But I wouldn't use the dirty word of Presentism to describe my view - more of "living" view with priority still placed on original meaning. The founding fathers were some smart guys and they created something new and comprehensive in the Constitution. But they also acknowledged that they didn't know everything, that they wouldn't get it right on the first try, and that the world was dynamic. One of the greatest and most insightful inclusions in the Constitution is Article 5 - the ability to amend it. It is an arduous process with a high barrier, as it should be. There have been 27 amendments since the Constitution was ratified, including 1 to repeal a previous amendment (Prohibition). I believe that the framers wanted future generations to apply their guiding principles to learn from experience and modify when necessary. The framers themselves learned that the original EC construct wasn't working and in 1804 the 12th amendment was ratified to solve their contemporary problem of deadlocked elections and opposing candidates potentially becoming President and Vice President. Amendments have been fairly regular until recently, when the Constitution has been viewed as some holy document passed down from on high. Originalism is one thing, but exulting the Constitution (and its creators) to religious status is something else. We need to learn from our history and experience, and adapt in a dynamic world using the very tools that the framers gave us - hence the American Experiment. Anyway, I veered off the topic a bit, but this will be my last post about it. To summarize my position : The Constitution is truly remarkable and I will defend it to my death; the framers wanted us to change it based on our experience; the EC could use an amendment to account for the national popular vote. I certainly appreciate the debate. And I bet they have big, goofy, bewildered smiles on their faces as they are dragged out in cuffs.
