There's no way to know for sure (i.e. I don't know anyone that was on the board), but yes bluedevil is correct that everyone picked up on last year's Active Duty board had a PPL. See below for the source document he's referencing. High PCSM seemed to be another indicator, and good news for you that having/not having a PPL doesn't influence your PCSM, which I would hope is fairly high with that many flight hours. Either way, as with anything, timing plays a huge role in these situations. Good luck...1 point

Just imagine the condition of the lavs after 20-30 mins of AAR. If you thought that last whale watching tour or deep-sea fishing trip was bad, just wait until 250 people start to get sick from the back end of receiver AAR. I've heard the loads tell some terrible/hilarious stories of sick pax in the back of the C-5 after/during taking gas. Can't imagine that it would be much better in any other jumbo jet.1 point

That is a damn shame. It's been years since I have driven a droid but the pain of mid-shifts lingers on... really, for the long term health of the people who fly/maintain/support this mission, that is a huge QOL issue and ultimately a major factor in retention, thus Big AF should have given it more weight. PR to Guam with bases scattered in between to keep the crews working normal times, more CODELs interested in supporting the enterprise to bring home the bacon to their bases and options for career RPA folks. Vandenburg is my vote FWIW (not anything) as that is at least on the other shining sea and a great location.1 point

Found this: https://ipadpilotnews.com/2012/06/having-trouble-viewing-your-ipad-with-night-vision-goggles-theres-a-filter-for-that/ and this supplier: https://www.consolite.co.uk/nvg-filters/ipad-and-tablet-filters/ Both MIL STD 3009 compliant but no idea if GPC eligible. Follow on, just a red light filter you might be interested in, doesn't advertise frequency blocking for NVG operations but if you're interested: https://www.siriusastroproducts.com/products---red-eyes-computeriphonedslr-light-shield.html1 point

Shaw. That place is terrible. I'd take Creech any day over that place. Never been to Cannon so can't say if it's better than that. If the Air Force was concerned about QOL they could have picked from dozens of other bases. This sounds like some SC congressman lobbying for their area.1 point

Try the "invert colors" feature on your iPad. You can go into Settings, and set the iPad to invert colors when you click the Home button 3 times. This is a quick way to toggle between normal and "NVIS" modes.1 point

I think we are agreed that reading is fundamental and implying that I hadn't read the article isn't. If the transition team wanted to keep him on, but Big Green was pushing him out the door, who exactly is the action figure in this scenario? And if we get "it's all Trump's fault" on these forums (liberal or not, I don't know), just imagine what the wider world is going to say - at least 1/2 anyway and that percentage of unhappy campers contains most of the media so the effect will only be magnified. - to BFM - Yep, that's the one, thanks. edited to add: The Commander of the DC Guard, appointed by the President, traditionally offers his resignation to each new Commander in Chief who decides to decline or accept the resignation. This particular commander was appointed by George W. Bush in 2008. Thus he has been in the same position for eight years. The Trump team offered to keep the MG through January 20 with his retirement effective 21 January. The MG refused and decided to voluntarily leave effective 1201 EST, 20 Jan 17. https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2017/01/fake-news-wapo-not-tell-whole-story-dc-national-guard-chiefs-resignation-video/ Nope, it's gotta be Trump's fault...1 point

According to his Nat'l Guard GO bio: He entered service in 1979, so he is waaaay beyond the 35 year total military service law (unless waived by Congress as in Rickover); probably his Guard time played with that calculation. The TAG of the DC Guard, unlike states' Guard which are appointed by the respective governor, is appointed by the President of the United States who is currently, and was when this order was given, Barack H. Obama. The MG is also 65, again a mandatory military retirement age unless waived by Congressional action. Nope, it's Trump's fault. We're gonna see a lot of that, I reckon. There was a good column (forget the venue and writer) on how everything for the past eight years was Bush's fault, and from here on out everything is Trump's fault. It's as though the last Administration didn't exist. Sure must be nice...1 point

Ive asked questions and this seems to have been clarified to only pertain to those doing official duties with the inauguration and not all Air Force folks in the NCR. If I find out more ill advise1 point

Doesn't appear to have contacted the flap, which is good. I'd hate to be a Minot BUFF maintainer with my name on anything engine-related in the forms...1 point

Sidebar conversation... What is up with all the "liberals" slurs on this board. Every time I see that word, all I can picture is Rush Limbaugh foaming at the mouth while a bunch of curmudgeonly middle aged men smugly laugh. It's unoriginal. It's devoid of thought. And it seems you've forgotten that the majority of voters did NOT vote for Trump. The idea that there is a nation-wide rejection of "nationwide rejection of transgendered, trans-fatted, trans-national, 'we know better than you' attitude of the current Administration, the majority of the media, and the well-insulated liberals in the coastal enclaves" is preposterous. Tiny sample size, but about half of the pilots in my fighter squadron say they, "lean left." Like most Americans, myself included, we tend to lean left on social issues and conservative on financial issues... but it isn't black and white. It isn't the "us vs them" mentality perpetuated by Karl Rove and co. Stick to the facts instead of sweeping generalization and political non-sense. Put some arguments back into these posts instead of the Facebook standard "liberals... blah blah" "Obama... rabble rabble" etc.1 point

Just came back last week actually. Its a pretty cool experience. I'm in ROTC but had some guard guys in our groups. Some of the tests they go through are: -Flight Doctor Physical -Urine Test/Blood Test -Chest X-Rays -Dental Check Up -Hearing Test, blood pressure -Depth Perception Test – Don’t let anyone psych you out, this seemed to happen a lot, as everyone seems to know someone who got sent home for it. Just take your time, if there is an issue they will let you know, if they don’t, don’t worry. -Red Lens Test, color blindness, and a few other eye tests of the sort. -Extensive Eye Exam (this includes dilating your eyes) -3-4 Hour Psych Exam – which is just a concussion test on steroids Lot of hurry up and wait, so I'd bring a book or something. But everyone there is super nice and great to deal with. They all just want to help you out and see you do well. Like I said before, don't let anyone psych you out. They'll let you know if there are any issues, if they don't say anything, I wouldn't worry. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me1 point

I just had my IFC1 a couple of weeks ago and everyone out there was awesome. The Flight Doc's were really cool. Everyone worked with you. If you have a problem they'll just make you retake the test. They aren't there to end your career, they're there to evaluate whether or not you can fly an airplane. We had about 30 guys in our class and I don't know of a single wash out. The optometrist was really really nice too. I could tell that she genuinely cared about all the applicants. They will tell you if you require a waiver, and what the odds are for that waiver. The only thing that I didn't like was that everyone administering the tests would not give you your results. This is probably a good thing though, to keep applicants from over stressing because you're going to be stressed enough. Don't stress out over it. There is a sandwich shop upstairs where you can buy lunch for all you guard and reserve dudes that aren't fortunate enough to receive one of those nifty boxed lunches like the ROTC guys. I do suggest looking up AFI 48-123 SUP 1. You can find it on epubs. This is where they get EVERYTHING. Knowledge is power, in the event that there is an issue. The worst part about it, to be honest, was the psych eval. A 4 hour computer test. Nothing cosmic, but really boring. I was in and out in a day and a half. Before going I starting nitpicking things out with myself as potential problems and it lead to stressing out and it wasn't worth it. Just take it easy and relax. Like I said, its nothing cosmic. With the things you can control, you already have under control. With the things you don't have control over, you can't change anyway. Make sure you don't have cavities!! If you have one it is not disqualifying but they hold your FC1 until you can provide proof that you have had it fixed. Make sure you drink a lot of water! If you are dehydrated, itll show + for protein. They'll just make you retake it but its not worth the hassle. All blood work and urinalysis is done at the hospital, everything else is done in area B of the base at the ACS ( Aeromedical Consultation Services). For the dudes that are driving, get the numbers of the other guys there and go to dinner that night. Just relax, shoot the shit, and have a good time with the guys. Don't drink alcohol because its just not worth screwing anything up. At least that's how we saw it. I don't suggest it but I'm not your mommy. There are quite a few restaurants around the area. You will wait in a break room for most of the time. They have a 50 inch on the wall for you to watch but you'll most likely be spending time talking to other dudes that are there as well. Don't sweat the red lens test, I think I saw something on that earlier. It's common sense, and the tech explains everything to you very clearly. You shouldn't screw it up. Also, no news is good news! If you don't hear anything, that's because they don't need you to hear anything. You're fine! I'm sorry if this is all over the place but I was just writing things down as I remember. If you have any questions about the appointment just PM me. I can't tell you anything about the tests but about the appointment in general I'd be glad to help you out. Again, DON'T STRESS and Good Luck!1 point
