  1. I'm caught between the "nice job USAF" on letting me roll up my sleeves and the "YGBSM....the fact I need a memo approving it" in the first place to show how f'd up our priorities have gotten. Personally, ever since I realized the USAF needs me more than I need it. I've been rolling up my sleeves, zipper down, morale tab tab on, embroidered shirt exposed, sunglasses on my cranium, baseball cap with flag anyway while deployed. Nobody has said sh-t. 2. Un-ing real. Do us all a favor and keep this shit to yourself. Are you related to the guy who thinks all business negotiations are rational? This is not how we win the battle, boys and girls. If your wife starts wearing lingerie at night, you don't spit in her face, tell her to put on sweat pants and get a better-paying job. You take the win, say thank you, shake hands, then immediately start pressing for the next win.

  5. Dude, it's a step in the right direction. I'll take it. It won't solve all the problems, but it's a damned easy kill and serves to boost the morale a little bit, so let's take it in the spirit in which it was intended and build on this victory to try to get our morale patches back.

  7. At that stage, why do we even need officers in the career field familiar with computers at all? If the solution to retention is hire people who can't get jobs on the outside, then your model is broken.

  8. There is a Dave Ramsey course for High School kids. Our kids did it through home schooling. My 23 yr old already has 10K in a ROTH.

  10. IMHO this covers about 69% of what most people would ever need to know: I also enjoyed Predictably Irrational by Professor Dan Ariely. I'm a big fan of behavioral economics vs rational economics...the former seems to explain the real world much better.

  12. I ended up only getting the unit to pay for some of my certs before I punched, the rest I paid for myself.

  13. In fairness to Dave, his target audience doesn't know what leverage is, and certainly doesn't know how to properly use it without getting burned.

  14. I think you might want to hold fire for now. From what I've been told, this was the result of a face to face discussion with guys at WEPTAC and was an answer to the question "what can we do that's an easy kill right now". This was a topic apparently brought up among many others and was addressed by HAF in about a 2 week period. Is it going to solve the problem? No. Does it remove a stupid restriction to the wear of the bag? Yes.

  15. Businesses generally only pay interest on their loans (sometimes the principal will amortize) and landlords generate monthly income from their properties. Taking out a loan where you are repaying the principal and interest on a monthly basis to invest in the market you won't be able to match the cashflow as well as those other two. That said, if you're in a position where you can make the monthly payments and your cash flow is low risk (both should be true on a $4k loan and military employment) then it really isn't a bad idea. It's the same reason lots of people with high paying jobs and 6 digit investment accounts only make the minimum payments on their student loans. No matter what Dave Ramsey is selling you in his books, a little leverage isn't a bad thing.

  16. SNL could learn a lot from the Netherlands. They make fun of Trump without sounding like a bunch of butthurt little children, unlike our media.

  19. This might be what actually brings the F-35 Joint Strike Money Black Hole to heel... https://warisboring.com/the-official-f-35-price-tags-are-bogus-99d67799e2ac#.viq3ct932 From the article: I suspect Trump can recognize when he is being scammed. In this case, the Pentagon is telling him American taxpayers can get F-35s for only two to four times what they originally advertised. It would be pretty much impossible to cancel the project now, not to mention Congress would never actually do that due to the well distributed nature of the sub-contracts but could/would a Trump administration punish the DoD, Congress and LM by proposing offsets to cover the growth of the F-35's cost? The USAF has to loose an MWS and/or X bases, the USN looses two carriers, etc... not rooting for this but as a taxpayer and semi-responsible citizen, someone/something has to be held to account for this.

  20. Thankfully the 3-stars are all over the important shit going on in today's Air Force. Meanwhile at the squadron level... the experienced guys/gals are racing out the door so fast it makes your head spin. WAKE THE FUCK UP, GENERAL NOWLAND!
