Can we re-visit the fact that the ACIP has not been revised since 1989? $650 then is worth about double that now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

Lesson (not) learned is that you don't let a kid (the Marines) sit at the grown up's table when making important DOD-wide acquisitions, or if you do, you don't allow them to have disproportionate influence on the outcome.2 points

What clown reinterpreted that rule to get a OPR bullet? Its not a break in training its an entirely different course. I just had a LT show up and then head straight to SERE, becuase nothing helps a guy brand new out of the Schoolhouse like adding another month of not flying on top of the time it takes to PCS, inprocessing & do the local mission ready.2 points

Kenny absolutely attacked every day with a ferocity and passion I have never seen. I'm glad you met him. He and the rest of the crew made the Air Force a place I wanted to be. As their senior I led them and would gladly give them anything to have them back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

I'm a current ROTC cadet that just got an assignment to attend UPT at Laughlin later on this year. If anybody has any useful information about the base, instructors, or just tips for UPT in general I would greatly appreciate it.2 points

If the end game is to end up at the airlines; can F-15 WSOs log their backseat time to add to their total time? What is needed prior to officially logging that precious (PIC) time? The F-15 is the only jet that affords CSOs actual "stick time" right?1 point

Hey everyone, I recently took the TBAS and feel kinda bummed about my PCSM score of 52. My AFOQT scores are 82 (Pilot) / 72 (Nav) / 64 (Acad Apt) / 83 (Verbal) / 45 (Quant) I only have 1 flight hour, and if I were to get my PPL (41+ hours) my PCSM would go to 71. However, I knew after taking the TBAS that I didn't do great. I did well on the directional orientation and multi-tasking, except for the math. I feel that if I practiced with the same incredibly stiff joystick and got faster on simple math problems, I could improve my PCSM score by retaking the TBAS. However, I've been gearing up to apply for the active duty board in June 2016. I can't retake the TBAS before that. My recruiter is not turned off by my scores. My recruiter also told me I would have to list Pilot, Combat System Officer, Air Battle Manager, and Remotely Piloted Aircraft in order of choice on my application. I would rather just apply for pilot. Has anyone else had to apply for all 4? I'm wondering if applying with these scores will hurt my chance to get a pilot slot - or worse, get me an RPA slot. Obviously the "whole person concept" comes into play, but I don't have an abundance of extra-curricular activities to list in my application. I have a good GPA from Virginia Tech, 3.63 / 4.00 overall (3.77 in-major), but it's in English. I've worked a lot of computer jobs (including some employed by VT and some while self-employed), and I took computer programming classes. I feel that a Private Pilot License (and volunteering) would greatly enhance my application. There just isn't time to get a PPL before June. Should I wait and apply later? On a side note, I just turned 26. Obviously applying is the only way to know how things will go, but I'd like to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance.1 point

And I'm the first one to advocate for using the doctrine we have, like SCAR for instance, instead of the bastardized CAS pseudo-9 lines that are common today, even when there are no friendlies on the ground within 100nm. +1 for any effort to make smart changes to that effect.1 point

The lessons should have been learned but they were not, there is blame on both sides. The pointy nose crowd was running the show and lived by the "nothing but 5th gen mantra" at a time when it was not affordable. The did everything within their power to crush the rebellion including having the CSAF personally take a WIC patch away from an Albino kid who wrote a blasphemous IDE paper that dared to suggest when didn't so many F-22s. The rebels...well they are rebels and in their effort to fight for enough table scraps to build 1,000 lite attack airplanes they ended up pissing off everyone and created just enough doubt in Congress and DoD to let people like McCain and Gates dictate our terms of surrender. If you think we have enough fifth gen or we won't need it, go into the vault and have an honest look. If you come out still thinking we have enough, choke yourself. We are and were our own worst enemy. The truth is, we need BOTH and a LOT more. Space and RPA are bills USAF pays but take away from our piece of the pie which hasn't gotten bigger. It is time for a CSAF to stand up and put it all on the line...communicate the urgency and if they don't listen, RESIGN and make a stink. The guy behind him should do the exact same thing until someone listens.1 point

The intent is to give the crews engagement authority, so the ISR turns into DT/SCAR (find target indicators that match your planned matrix, kill target) not find target indicators, intel goes into the black hole of joint targeting and ISIS lives to fight another day.1 point

Some nice academic theories we got here guys, but when you forward deploy an asset with capable sensors, data links and a good amount of stations time, that asset is gonna get tasked with ISR support as directed by the ITCs. There isn't enough DA going on consistently anymore to afford constantly-airborne armed overwatch/observation/whatever and it's equally unlikely you leave good jets on the ground idle, cocked and ready to respond. The community and individual crews just need to work within the confines of the system and develop strategies to avoid, minimize and squash attempts at being micromanaged. It's not rocket science and it's been done successfully.1 point

D While I am 100% behind that idea, I think it would be futile as ultimately it's the base commander's decision as to whether to allow personally-owned firearms on the installation. A few bases (Dyess for one) allow it, but for the most part it's not a "risk" most base commanders will take despite the fact that there's greater danger in driving or crossing the street. But, until such time Trump or the Federal government makes it permissible, we will continue to be stripped of our 2A rights!1 point

2 With perfect hindsight, the introduction of 5th Gen had and has an apparent flaw that with the technology, materials and designs we have now they don't work with the Hi - Lo concept that was successful with the 15 & 16, that is you really can't make a "cheap" 5th Gen fighter. The barn is wide open and it doesn't matter but if we had committed to a full run of 22's (in the 500+ range) to replace the 15Cs and Es, developing an FB-22 and kept our requirements in check for the 16 and 18 replacement (forgoing the VSTOL altogether) to not be go full 5th Gen but 4++ with unique capabilities or design to be relevant but not in the first wave on night 1, things might have worked out better. The lesson learned for the 35 acquisition and development is strive for good improvement not unrealistic improvement over the previous jet. The price soars, the schedule goes late, you reduce your goals to keep it alive and undermine your service reputation, important because you'll want to get another toy in the future and politicians trust you less or not at all anymore.1 point

$15K/year (9.3 after tax) for 12B...I don't think I'll take it. Sounds like a guaranteed way to catch a 365 to run a post office in Kabul. I can drive for Uber at night and make more than that. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums1 point

It's the perfect storm, worse than 2010-2013, because we are running out of Instructors in all airframes, but especially fighters. Shortening the B-courses will only put more strain on the actual combat units. Amazing what driving your people into the ground for 10 years will do. I'm also seeing a large swing in guys that don't want to fly fighters. More guys are putting heavies up near the top. An unforeseen consequence of the lack of 11F presence in Phase II I would imagine as well as the ability to quickly build hours in the MAF. I also see more younger guys already building exit plans from AD. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums1 point

T-1 dudes in my old class (I washed back as part of the 38 issues) are projected to grad on time. They're still not sure if they get to do the mission fam Checkride though, that part of the syllabus got cut when they were having maintainence delays awhile back and is in the process of coming back.1 point
