I keep hearing Stop Loss and it may be inevitable, but what a chocolate mess it would create. For starters how long do you think they can Stop Loss someone...out to 20 years of service? This is a problem that is NOT going to go away overnight...or after a year....or two years, this is system that is imploding. I also wonder what the justification will be when the legal challenges start. Yes you can declare national emergency because the nation is at war, but we have been at war for 16 years, this is a problem of MISMANAGEMENT by senior USAF folks who were kicking people out just two years ago. I hear the 15 year ADSC chat and the ramp up of pilot training, but the problem is not with young pilots, it is the 8-9 year IP that you can't build overnight. Mark my words, watch the accident rate over the next 5 years folks.6 points

I find its best to view it as two sides being children and hoping in the long run they got what they really wanted which was not Merrick Garland or a similar justice. Democrats knew he was a poison pill but they were banking on that. They thought they would win two battles out of this where they get to spend 9 months embarrassing the other side in the media because "he's perfectly qualified" when like I said you and I know how a "perfectly qualified" justice who had said he didn't support gay marriage would have been a non starter. Then they get the second victory because everybody just knew Hillary was gonna win and they could get a justice they really wanted and rebalance the court to their liking. Republicans were playing on the hard 6 and hold the line on the odds they might actually pull this off. Most importantly it left this issue as something to campaign on and drag more people out to vote which they knew they would need. Neither side was interested in the health of the court or what's best for the country. It was about consolidating power and whipping up fury in their respective base. Definitely "not worked up." Both sides pretty much suck. Democrats seem to be able to actually accomplish things (much that I don't like as in Obamacare). Republicans seem to be good at... well, I'm still working on that one. But in this case, they had the numbers to hold their line until, surprise!, they took the White House. High stakes game on that one because if, as expected, Hillary won, the uber-liberal she would've named would have taken his/her/its seat on the Court would have been very gun unfriendly among other issues.2 points

^^ THIS What is the new bonus policy & when will it be released? All talk, no action. If pilots used bureaucracy/lack of support as an excuse, planes would never get off the ground. Why can't they get anything done in a timely manner? Maybe they need 5 more working groups to discuss the meeting schedule, approved acronym list & appropriate letterhead.2 points

Maybe if they'd actually get off their asses and offer a bonus program, this thread could stay on topic. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Not hard at all. Inside tip, when writing your cover letter... always mention Rep. Martha McSally and say that she's someone you look up to. She's HUGE in the A-10 world.2 points

Well. at least that's an improvement. In my day (granted, that was a few decades ago), they broke everywhere they went. The joke then was that they always flew in formation...C-5 lead, C-141 wingman carrying spare parts.1 point

Like brick said, "both sides pretty much suck". Can't pump up your deportation numbers if you discourage illegal border-crossing to begin with. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2017/05/17/deportations-under-president-trump-undocumented-immigrants/101786264/ Highlights: -Arrests up 38% -Arrests of those with immigration violations tripled (a couple months under Trump compared against a couple months under Obama, possibly taken to look Trump look better) -"Under Obama, undocumented immigrants had to be a gang member, convicted of a felony, or convicted of several misdemeanors to be deemed a deportation priority"... Trump actually calls crossing the border illegally what it is... A crime. No more "noncriminal" illegal border crossers (exactly as stupid as it sounds) -"Under Obama, ICE agents who were conducting raids or seeking specific individuals could generally not arrest other undocumented immigrants they encountered along the way." Again, Trump doesn't care about Obama's PC fine print. -Deportations are 12% less than Obamas, primarily because illegal border crossings (easy and fast deportations) have dropped 67%1 point

So just like the people who own Air BNB/Crashpads? So what exactly is the difference then?1 point

Obama wasn't a lame duck when Scalia died and Garland was nominated. He still had 9 months left before the election and nea 20% of his term remaining. "Advise and consent" does not mean not even entertaining a hearing. If they determined that his qualifications did not meet the standards required for the high court then the Senate could vote appropriately.1 point

The website says "late Spring" I'm expecting an update on June 20th to say "mid summer" followed by release of the Bonus on Sept 15th with a due date from applicants of Sept 30th.1 point

Yeah well doing business without a budget has been a way of life for us now. It's almost become a norm. I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I had a budget to work with for more then 3 months at a time. We lost a drill weekend last Dec because of the CR. Congress has proven they don't give a shit about running a military nevermind retaining pilots. Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk1 point

You can't offer a new bonus on a CR. The FY17 budget needs to be approved before they can release it. Same thing happened right before sequestration.1 point

2. I don't work for an airline, but I filed my travel voucher with my current employer before I departed on my last trip. Our travel lady filled it out for me, I signed it and had my money before my plane landed.1 point

That given the election could have gone another way, if it had the best situation gun owners could hope for was a Supreme Court nominee who didn't view the second amendment at an individual right shifting the balance to a more "progressive" view of the 2nd amendment. That's the best case scenario with a Hillary win. I doubt the democrats would have offered Garland post election because they wouldn't have a need to and could appoint something more in line with the Kagen/Sotomayor type model they had under Obama.1 point

Except he doesn't speak truths, pretty much ever. Obama's wiretaps, Arabs dancing in New Jersey, millions of illegal voters,Ted Cruz's dad in Dallas, inauguration crowds, his opposition to the Iraq War . . . . . The man is so full of shit, when he happens to say something factual I'm more inclined to cite the broken clock theorem than attribute it to any political wisdom. If the special prosecutor finds collusion with the Russians I don't for one second think it's because of malice. He's demonstrated over and over he's just so incompetent that this kind of thing could happen right under his nose and he's too busy tweeting about Kristen Stewart's boyfriend to know what's going on.1 point

I did the job fair circuit a couple times. Had a few follow up interviews and 2 that headed down the path for job offers but weren't the right fit from my side. If you are in the correct age group for the Deloitte Core Leadership Program I'd highly recommend commend applying. Day Man is right, your best bet is to network with people in the companies you are interested in and work internal recommendations. That's how I found my position at a defense contractor. A good book on this approach is the 2-hour job search by Steve Dalton. Feel free to PM me also if you've got other questions.1 point

https://www.airforcetimes.com/articles/3-star-air-force-may-need-even-bigger-pilot-retention-bonuses Nowland said that when he first entered a fighter squadron as a lieutenant in 1990, he was told his job was to study and become the best F-15 pilot he could be. He threw himself into learning all about the then-new AIM-120 air-to-air missile. "That took hours and hours and hours back in the vault," Nowland said. "Why? Because I didn't have to do DTS [Defense Travel System]. When I had orders, I had people that helped me get from point A to point B. Lt. Gen. Nowland best quote, "In my personal opinion, we lost our way when we started running the Air Force like a business," Nowland said. "Producing a pilot is not a business decision. It is a capability for America." applause... applause... applause 🤗1 point

The A-10 is back to 2035+; the 15C is the new kid on the "near term" chopping block. Point: Shit changes all the time and will change 69 times before you're even done with UPT. Go for the job you want as it exist today; do not alter your decisions/goals based on hypotheticals or possibilities of what the future MIGHT be, because nobody, especially the dipshits running the AF, has a clue what 1 yr from now looks like, let alone 10+ yrs from now.1 point

Have you read through the ENJJPT Information thread here? There's a lot of useful information and some good answers to your question: www.flyingsquadron.com/forums/topic/5445-enjjpt-information1 point

I should add, as a guard guy who went through ENJJPT, I prefered it there for a few reasons. First, I think it's the best located UPT base out of all of them. Second, I didn't have to move to go to IFF and I could sandbag the program, which gave me a leg up on what to expect before starting. Third, flying and partying with the NATO bros was a blast. There's always something going on. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk1 point

Yes, while in OTS all pilot applicants will have a face to face interview with the board and from that they determine 1 maybe 2 applicants to go to ENJJPT. From my OTS board one guy was a former nfl football player with lots of flight time and the other was a scientist at the CERN labratory. Its not one thing, but normally being a stud in all things... at least from the guys I have seen go. DG from OTS and then DG in their CSO/ABM training with lots of flight hours and ratings. I am sure that doesnt mean all who go to ENJJPT are like that, but the guys I have seen go fit this to the T. Are you Active Duty now or going through OTS/ROTC?1 point
-
Speaking from the AFROTC side, the biggest factors were PCSM and then GPA, in that order. Guys could in essence often "buy" an ENJJPT slot by paying for a ton of hours or a PPL to get that 100 PCSM. What's your commissioning source?1 point

I don't think it mattered. Neither side of the isle has a leg to stand on calling the other side "obstructionist." The fact was democrats wanted to appoint a Supreme Court justice for life while dismissing the differences between him and the man he replaces and their views on personal liberty, plus they wanted to do it during the lame duck period of the presidency. This after they argued so hard against Bush getting to "decide the fate of the court" during the twilight of his presidency. Then they turned around and drug out the confirmation of the elected presidents nominee and filibustered the perfectly qualified after screaming about the need to have a "full" Supreme Court for the last 8 months. So spare me the whole this outrage that a republican senate refused to entertain the hearing on a justice they already said didn't meet the ideological requirements that had been set. It would have been as much a non starter as if Trump put somebody forward who said "marriage is between a man and a woman period end of story." Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk0 points
