  1. Flight pay needs to be approximately $1250 (from $650) and $1615 ($840) to correct for inflation since 1990. I expect it'll go to around $750 and $1000. The raise will show us how seriously management is taking this "crisis"...

  2. It better. I budgeted the financing of my 2018 Maserati based on the goodwill of our leadership and the increase in my flight pay. Fingers crossed...

  4. Or maybe no one is talking about it because the AF has zero credibility for things like this. I'll believe it when I see it on my LES and it's more than a $50 pay jump.

  6. I don't blame those dudes for voicing their opinions, but they probably could have framed the argument better. If money doesn't matter then why is the bonus thread on page 139? If money doesn't matter, then why do all the airline guys talk about how much money they can make and all the AD guys ease drop whenever the conversation comes up?

  7. This, and a cafeteria to put them on meal cards. This woe's me shit from people who somehow make fortunes as "public servants" is crap. These are the same people that would see something as absurd as time limit adjusting per diem rates because after 30 days you're gonna negotiate costs down in Japan and think that's ok.... but not for me.

  11. It's pretty sad that I'm in this board but my give-a-shit factor is so low that I forgot the results were going to be released this summer.

  15. "If You Ain't a Pilot" by Ray Wright. Hands down the BEST book written about UPT. Hilarious, witty and every Air Force Pilot can relate.

  17. I've said it before, I'll say it again. Congress doesn't trust the AF to be good managers of money. (Ironic...) Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

  19. Yea, it's definitely the fault of a few random captains that the AF undervalues pilots. I'm sure congress was just about to give us 60$k annual bonuses till those guys fucked it up...

  20. The next AFRC board will be 5-6 Sept 2017. AFRC will then begin hosting UFT boards every other month (Sept, Nov, Jan, Mar, May July). UFT packages are due no later than close of business the final day of the month prior to each month a board is held.

  21. Probably because the pay bump for 14 year guys will be less than a typical yearly bump in pay due to inflation, and likely no better for the 6 year level. I mean, I'll take it, but $160 bump is a fancy dinner somewhere.

  27. This. I want my representative to keep his home and his family in my district and spend as much time here as possible. Stipend? Show me that there's a need. There may actually be a legitimate justification. Despite the apparent popular belief, congressional representatives aren't exactly lavishly paid. I doubt any are hurting, but there may be a few who struggle with all of the travel and expenses in Washington vs. their districts. Again, show me the need......perhaps a stipend is in order only for junior representatives who have not yet secured alternate living arrangements in D.C. Then again, how do I know they're not spending it all on hookers and blow? Maybe some sort of Congressional crashpad arrangement is what's needed instead.

  28. As a guy with a civilian job and a pilot, the pilot job is way more fun. Yes, there are some complaints, but that happens everywhere.

  30. Truth.. Last time I was at Altus a few years ago my EP kept checking his phone during full stops. I finally asked him about it and he was waiting to hear if his VSP was approved. Apparently they had 15 or 20 guys apply in the 58th. The AF lost some true talent from that pool of IPs.

  32. I ran across Dan a few times during my career. AFROTC field training, a few of the same strike package during Desert Storm out of the 'Lik and at least one Flag. All I'll say is that not everyone shares as high opinion of him as he does. That's been a trend since ROTC. To proclaims one's self the "most lethal pilot" in the USAF or whatever he said when I leafed through the book in an airport bookstore is a bit of a stretch, considering the company he keeps in aviation history. A good driver with some good stories? No doubt. At least his books are selling. In my final comment below, I realize I may be somewhat biased considering my background. However, I think it's still extremely valid. The one question I have for him, should we cross paths again would be this: Considering the success of the fighter version of the F-15 over the history of it's four-plus decades of operations, how can someone write a history of the fighter pilot and fail to even mention that aircraft once? I get the whole Eagle-Falcon rivalry.......but considering the F-15 was probably the last US aircraft designed purely to fulfill the role of a true fighter (not a pound for air-to-ground) and has a pretty enviable kill ratio in combat (ya know..... the actual job of a "fighter pilot"), you'd think it might have at least made it into the index.
