I...get it. The second half of an AD AF career is filled mostly with the opposite of what the Peter Pan line flyer wants. I say again, the solution to never growing up, flying the line, having the freedom to live where you want, go to an airline, NOT go to an airline, get paid, potentially even find happiness, etc lies in the ARC. The ARC certainly has its warts, but chief among its many advantages is the ability to say NO. And being a member of the ARC doesn't have to be a life sentence. Stay (in most cases) as long as you want. It can serve as a transition lily pad to stabilize the family while other big life pieces fall into place. It's tough to see the truth of the entire landscape when peering through jail bars, wrapped in an AD welfare blanket and handcuffed to a AF commitment. I know why the caged bird sings, Crag. And I'm sure glad I didn't let the AF steamroll my escape tunnel behind that Rita Hayworth poster.5 points

To each their own. If the state wants to give me free license plates for life, then I will take it. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums2 points

I think Four Fans is saying that he will miss the tactical flying. That is what most of us will miss.2 points

Are people rally surprised anymore when we see that the system is set up to protect the system and Commanders within it, rather than ensure actual justice for the individual servicemember? Seems to me we see this same fact presented over and over every time a new case like this pops up, and act shocked each time as if we didn't know.2 points

Okay. It's that time. Who's got the best rate on a 15 yr or 30 year VA loan? Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums1 point

Non-vol to T-38s. How screwed is the AF if a bunch of UPT studs don't even want to be fighter pilots?1 point

Even if you feel wronged, SAF/IG still "determines" if the complaint is valid for the MAJCOM/IG or even the local IG office to investigate and may possibly kick it down to them. Wanna have a real IG? Take away local IG's because they're worthless. Consolidate all that manpower to the MAJCOM/IG or possibly SAF/IG to do inspections and complaints. Of course every Commander would shit their pants if HHQ IG came in to investigate a complaint instead of the worthless local IG, who's really just a watchdog for the Wing/CC.1 point

Wow, JQP's writing has become difficult to read. That said, I would advise the complainant to review AFI 90-301, 6.6.2.3 (and sub-paragraphs). I would also advise the complainant to consider contacting the DOD IG Hotline at https://www.dodig.mil/Hotline/, MAJCOM IG, or SAF/IGQ https://www.af.mil/Inspector-General-Complaints/ if he/she feels there is wrongdoing by the local IG office.1 point

Yeah, because that site is so infested with ads and click-bait that it's unreadable! I can't go to that site and stream pandora at the same time because it eats up so much bandwidth/processor/battery.1 point

ACSC might actually be the best analogy yet to big blue's, an apparently Congress' approach... 'I don't care what the facts are, I don't care about getting to the bottom of the cause, I don't really want to even be talking about this. What is the absolute fastest way to make it look like I care, make it look like I did my research, but really just get a passing grade so I can move on.'1 point

I can think of no better way to get to valid lessons learned than to skip the shot val, quarter back a root cause, and then chalk it up to a couple of execution errors. Sounds like a winning formula. Too bad it sounds like the Senator wasted some valuable time with those flying the line by putting up the lane bumpers before hand. I just wonder who it was who "briefed" them as to what the man was open and/or not open to hearing. Was it congressional staffers or AF people? Fvck it. Dark visor down. Banzai. ETA: I'm convinced the strategy is to buckle down, attempt to weather the storm, avoid setting a (high) bonus precedent, and hope for the best.1 point

I don't blame those dudes for voicing their opinions, but they probably could have framed the argument better. If money doesn't matter then why is the bonus thread on page 139? If money doesn't matter, then why do all the airline guys talk about how much money they can make and all the AD guys ease drop whenever the conversation comes up?1 point

As a guy with a civilian job and a pilot, the pilot job is way more fun. Yes, there are some complaints, but that happens everywhere.1 point

I ran across Dan a few times during my career. AFROTC field training, a few of the same strike package during Desert Storm out of the 'Lik and at least one Flag. All I'll say is that not everyone shares as high opinion of him as he does. That's been a trend since ROTC. To proclaims one's self the "most lethal pilot" in the USAF or whatever he said when I leafed through the book in an airport bookstore is a bit of a stretch, considering the company he keeps in aviation history. A good driver with some good stories? No doubt. At least his books are selling. In my final comment below, I realize I may be somewhat biased considering my background. However, I think it's still extremely valid. The one question I have for him, should we cross paths again would be this: Considering the success of the fighter version of the F-15 over the history of it's four-plus decades of operations, how can someone write a history of the fighter pilot and fail to even mention that aircraft once? I get the whole Eagle-Falcon rivalry.......but considering the F-15 was probably the last US aircraft designed purely to fulfill the role of a true fighter (not a pound for air-to-ground) and has a pretty enviable kill ratio in combat (ya know..... the actual job of a "fighter pilot"), you'd think it might have at least made it into the index.1 point

I always thought the Air Force was the one place where equality and fairness actually meant something. Boy was I wrong. I knew this all along after I sat in on my first court martial. I thought if the kid who was being court martialed had a REAL lawyer he would walk free. If your defense counsel breaks out a PowerPoint presentation you should fire him/her or expect to be found guilty period. I told the Lt Col for JAG I will not be apart of another court martial due to the AF being just as biased as the civilian court system. He told me the WG/CC really wanted me on the board. I told my CC it's biased to his face too. The proof is in the pudding: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2017/06/07/black-troops-much-twice-likely-punished-commanders-courts/102555630/-1 points
