Watching the implosion of CNN sure is amusing. Talk about an utter lack of self-awareness on their part.5 points

Depends on the context. If in an informal setting, like a meet and greet, I would refer to them by the name they introduce themselves as or whatever is on their nametag. Nobody will care if you call them by their callsign. If in a formal setting, like the interview, I would refer to them by rank and last name or sir/ma'am. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk3 points

Now we know where all those missing climate surveys were. Someone must have been close to finding out so the AF blew up the building to avoid answering the difficult questions. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums3 points

I keep telling my liberal friends not to get wrapped up in collusion crap because when the networks finally admit its nothing, they will be let down like they were the day after the election. They are turning themselves bipolar.2 points

There's one aspect everyone keeps overlooking: you only get one chance in your life to fly fighters, if you're lucky. Definitely not for everyone but, if pay, hours, or lifestyle have anything to do with whether or not you want to join the club, then we don't want you and you probably won't make it anyways. There will be a time when I'm done flying fighters and I'll leave this all behind. I won't miss the long hours, all the hard work, or the stress that is intrinsic to the job. I will miss the flying, shooting the gun, lasing bombs in, Turkey shoots, BFM, roll calls, naming ceremonies, and all the shenanigans with the bros. When the time comes, I'll move on, but I'll really miss all the amazing shit I did with all the amazing people. All the hard work is definitely worth it. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk2 points

When all the existing services can pass an audit, then maybe we can talk about adding another one....1 point

That's how my drop was. Except we also had the other bases on a conference call. Order of bases rotated each drop. #1 from Vance would get up and pick e.g. I'll take line 5, F-15C to Tyndall," then someone at each location would cross that line off the transparency with a marker (list was displayed on an over-cranium projector. Then #1 from CBM would go, etc. Until the last guy at the last base got what was left Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Fuck him and his "happiness". In other instances, I've seen swaps happen when studs are better fits AND are good dudes. However, that opens up Pandora's Box and people that can't get an assignment swapped have a legitimate gripe.1 point

Fair enough, I was more driving at the fact that the studs don't get a fair view of a fighter/bomber lifestyle all they get is one side of the story.1 point

20 minutes on a SIPR computer will pretty much dispel these Manchuria candidate conspiracy theories. The fact that Democratic Party members who only go in front of the Camera with the parties blessing keep milking this forward is nothing more than partisan politics. At this point Trump could bomb the Kremlin and critics allude to whether or not he is trying to conceal the evidence.1 point

Simmer down now fellas. Seems like once a month everyone gets all keyboard warrior and starts measuring manhood. There are positives in most communities, no one has the market cornered for coolest job in the Air Force and UPT studs don't know what they want. I have a question regarding customs and courtesies. Is it appropriate to address pilots by their callsign or is that reserved for those already within the fold?1 point

Fast forward 2 weeks, we find out it was a meth lab explosion caused by one of the employees trying to "borrow" some of the facilities for some overtime work. It is the pan handle of Florida we're talking about after all...1 point

Our functional told us the '08 Maj board results will release at 0900 CDT on 11 July. I don't know if that's the public release or not. That was the only info. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums1 point

It doesn't say much good about CNN that after seeing the President tweet a rude meme, they decide the best course of action is to do some open source intel gathering in order to go after the guy who photoshopped their logo into a years old wrestling video, have him apologize, delete his account, and imply they will publicly ID him if he ever posts things they don't like in the future. Legally, it's probably a stretch to go for a criminal blackmail charge...but seriously, this is what an international news organization thinks is a good idea?!1 point

The media group who accuses a president for attacking and marginalizing them as fake news going out of its way to hold its critics hostage.... Irony doesn't seem to cover it.1 point

This is an ignorant statement. The bonus is irrelevant. It's not big enough to change minds regardless of airframe, duration or current $$ involved. Did anyone imagine that closing multiple FTU squadrons would have 2nd/3rd order effects when they did so in 2009/10? No, because it was all driven by politics and no one was looking at what the AF actually needed. We went through a period where training at Luke was so backed up punks were waiting 12+ months post-UPT for their FTU, so fighters stopped dropping. There was nowhere to train them. Those of us who were CGOs back then laughed at what would happen in a few years; SQ/CCs shrugged and senior leaders drank their Kool-Aid, ignoring anyone who said the sky is falling. This is a failure of leadership, not an issue with "fighters" chasing people out the door. The AF has a culture problem in general, not just in fighters.1 point

I've said it before in this thread and I'll say it again: I simply cannot fathom wanting to do something for such a long time and then being talked out of it because it may be difficult. JFC, you put up with all the bullshit to get to the fucking fun part and now you want to bail out! Yes, I realize I sound like Clark Griswold. Source material for all you millennial chodes that are hiding from having to do a lot of "Boldface and Ops Limits" sheets.1 point

Yes and Hell Yes to flying. Despite the bullshit of being a part of any large organization (public or private), it is a unique challenge, personally and professionally rewarding and a chance to be part of something occasionally historic and always important. Would do it all over again. Pitfalls as a young officer (somewhat generic but my two cents looking back): - Alcohol Related Incidents. Enjoy but be aware of your limits and/or surroundings. Not to be condescending or cheesy but stupid shit does happen in the bar on Friday and on the road. Newbies sometimes feel a need to prove their bravado and limits are exceeded with damage to egos, reputations, friendships, faces and careers. - Realistic significant others (if you are single). Just a quick count but I can think of several buds (male & female) who got divorced about 3 years into their flying careers due to the lifestyle and requirements due to a military flying career (work hours, last minute schedule changes, TDYs, non-vol assignments, etc...) - Blue Kool Aid. The company line will be emphasized a lot and most of the time it is like the repetitive commercials on AFN, harmless but somewhat annoying. Take it with a grain of salt, don't be naive but don't be cynical, find some mixture of the two that suits you. - Career Priority Indecision. Towards the end of your second tour, the end of your youth as an AF officer, you'll need to decide the red pill or the blue pill. Operationally focused, Military career focused, Transition to the ARC or the road not taken... That is not to say I think you have to have it all figured out and/or if something changes (lifestyle, personal choices, new opportunities, etc..) but have a rough idea figured out of what you want, one more time - what you want, so you can work towards it and make the case to the AF that they should help you do that. Wisdom: Work hard, keep the end goal in mind, don't sweat the details until it is time to sweat the details, recognize nothing goes exactly to plan ever and always remember what you have already accomplished. I am in no way 100% in compliance with said advice but I try to remember that which was passed to me by smarter men.1 point
