  1. For the purpose of this discussion, dual qual means a guy executing full up combat missions in two MDS during the same time period, which requires substantially more than "motherhood" flying. The ability to fly more than one airplane safely is not being debated here, it's the ability to employ more than one aircraft effectively in combat. Beale/Whiteman 38s, airlines, etc. are all basic flying/"standard" airmanship type stuff - they are not employing an MDS in combat. These two, different definitions of dual qual cannot be compared/inter-changed (apples to oranges).

  3. Check out Rebuild Northwest Florida too. FEMA will pay for 75% of hurricane safety upgrades to your house which will reduce your insurance further and better protect your family/property. Also great for increasing your resale value. https://www.rebuildnwf.org/ Marty Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  6. Good stuff. Wait until the winter when some of the leaves are gone and the air is cold and more dense...the sound really travels. I was at a soccer camp last night east of the high school and had a great sunset view of some CVs with the gunships wailing in the background...its like music! PM if you need anything.

  12. There's a page on Mypers that gives a rundown date of rank, date of ADSC, goes all the way down to last 4 of your SSN in reverse order if there's a tie.

  13. From AFPC site: "Officers are positioned for promotion sequence based on the following criteria, applied in the order listed: -Current Grade Date of Rank -Previous grade date of rank, if applicable -Total Active Federal Commissioned Service -Total Federal Commissioned Service -Regular officers will precede Reserve officers. Regular officers will rank among themselves based on date of Presidential nomination for appointment as a Regular officer -Regular Air Force acceptance date; based on the date of the Air Force Form 133, Oath of Office -Graduates of Service academies, appointed as Regular officers and assigned the same date of rank, on the active duty list in order of their graduation class standing -Date of birth, with the earliest date taking precedence -Reverse social security number, with the lowest number taking precedence" From the looks of other Major selects TAFCS seemed to play the biggest part putting all the pilot types towards the end thanks to our six month "vacation". 14. Serious question from the "teach me" point-of-view, not being a smart ass. What about guys/gals who are guard/reserve and fly for the airlines weekdays and drive Mother Blue's hardware in their off time? Couldn't that be considered "dual qual'd; airliner/something else? Also dual-qual'd pilots like the guys at Beal flying the Duce and the -38 seem to do OK. (yes, I understand the Beal crowd is really the cream-of-the-crop type of community) Again, asked from a "teach me" point-of-view not being a dick.

  16. Closed on a VA IRRRL to 3.5% with Trident about two weeks ago- it was by far the best refi or mortgage experience I've encountered. Would rcommend Marty and his associates to anyone, & am hoping rates drop enough that I get to use them again in 6-9 months.

  17. Let me throw in a recommendation for Trident Home Loans. We have done two refis with them, and have had great experiences. Marty, Ashley and Aspen were great help, got me a great rate both times and with little to no hassle. We really enjoyed the simplicity and quick pace of the process.

  19. Makes sense now that the Saudis have ramped up their fight against VEOs. I know the Taco Gilberts of the world think AT-6 or A-29 is the best option because there is already a maintenance backbone, but the Scorpion jet is a growth platform with a huge advantage in speed and range. The speed advantage alone not only reduces the time to respond to a TIC but also reduces the number of aircraft required to cover an area using the lily pad concept. Add in dual sensors and a HUGE internal payload bay and it is truly a game changer in this arena.

  20. Not trying to take this off on a whole other tangent, but anyone else feel like this bureaucratic construct we're operating (in both OIR and OFS, albeit under a much tighter leash in OFS) under was a giant counterdoctrinal mindfuck by the land component to take over not only CAS, but interdiction as well? e.g. Back when I was a hardened nuclear warrior who only did "CAS" in imaginationland, I'd hear stuff like "They have CAS on a tight leash out there because can't have CIVCAS and 'no one target will win this war' and dangers of relying on indigenous forces for targeting" etc. And then I get out here and what I see is: (1) deliberate targets developed well outside the 72 hour ATO cycle tasked by the land component via 9-Line as "CAS" with little/no visibility by the CAOC, (2) clearly offensive targets (i.e. interdiction masquerading as CAS) assigned under defensive ROE in order to circumvent CAF TTPs for avoiding CIVCAS, (3) JTACs who want me to ignore what my sensor is telling me and be a BOC machine because some Army 1-star standing over their shoulder staring at an FMV feed (pushed by a contractor whose idea of a far scan is to go WFOV) must have more SA than I do, and (4) occasionally actual CAS. Oh yeah, (5) Laser JDAMs and SDBs for terrain denial. Watching what the Army mentality has done to both our strikers and ISR makes me both more convinced than ever about the foundational need for airpower to be controlled by airmen... and also more SMH than ever at our so-called leaders that over a decade later still haven't learned how to say "No" to terrible ideas from the land component.

  21. Good! I've ORM'd myself out of flights in the past, it can be a smart thing to do, especially in AETC.

  22. i'm intimately familiar with the MQ-9 mission set i'd argue you can't plug and play an MQ-9 pilot into an A-10 cockpit...tell him to go do CAS...and get the same return

  23. alright ill be the asshole...i don't think dual qual RPA/light attack makes sense GENERALLY (key word GENERALLY) the pilots sent from UPT direct-> RPA are not your top sticks...i'll just leave it at that throwing that dude into a dual qual to fly light attack would be asking for trouble when he's splitting his time on a robot. light attack ain't flying from point A to point B...CAS deserves specialists not generalists and not guys fcking off half the time just so they can "fly in a cockpit" the guys i've encountered in their post-RPA duties are 70-30 not sharp/low aviation SA-descent stick good SA. that's just my experience. the talent isn't there for dual qual. hurt feelings RPA guys flame away! and +1 for moving RPA bases to cool locations...too bad congress will get in the way.

  24. It would require a major culture shift in the RPA communities. Most sensors wouldn't mind being pilots for pilot pay and rank. Most I've talked to wouldn't want to be enlisted pilot with the current pay scale. To much responsibility for to little money. Im a huge advocate for pairing up RPA squadrons with light attack and dual qual for the 11s. I would never leave if I could kill a terrorist or two every once in awhile in the box and go tear up the skies in a AT-6/A-29/scorpion or whatever we might buy. More than likely RPAs and light attack are going to intergrate regularly on the battlefield and it's helps the RPA manning keeping 11s in the community. Hell, you could dual qual sensors to sit in the back seat.

  25. So looking at the data for CY 2017A LAF Major compared to 2016 for pilots specifically (since we have a pilot crisis don't ya know!)... Summary 2017: 93.1% selection IPZ, 21.8% APZ 2016: 94.4% selection, 10.6% APZ Details PDE complete and DP = 100% both years PDE complete and P 2017: 76% selection IPZ (182/239), 10% APZ (8/84) PDE complete and P 2016: 83% selection IPZ (199/241), 20% APZ (17/87) BL: Pilots in the rank of Captain were less competitive for promotion to Major this board than last board For all other categories (CSO, ABM, Non-Rated Ops, & Mission Support) across the board all categories were more promotable in 2017 than in 2016 save for a 1-man-less erosion for APZ CSOs. Super Double BL: the AF in as clear of terms as possible is demonstrating to pilots that they are not any more specifically wanted/needed at the rank of Major now during this "crisis" even compared to last year and 2015. Take action appropriately when considering outside opportunities. Edit to add: to not sound too alarmist, the movements were relatively small. 24 pilots passed over who would have been promoted at last year's rate. And 19 of them can possibly be explained away by a 2% higher DP allocation rate, meaning DP is more important than ever in order to be promoted. Factor in the handful of Ducks that were clearly promotable but took themselves out of the running and maybe there ya have it. Interpret the data how you will...my takeaway is that the AF is treating things like business as usual where the rubber meets the road, yet is talking like we're in some kind of pilot retention crisis. It's almost as if management's words don't match their actions...weird.

  26. The AF capitulated to pressure. The AvB PSDM was changed today and now early takers still have the additional year, but they get paid for it if they renegotiate it. "Aviators will be paid for the additional year of commitment at the renegotiated annual contract amount."

  28. Good stuff. See I feel like the guys that keep spouting that mantra ought to do a better job of shutting up and highlighting incidents like this. Probably the worst enemy of our continued evolution and reinvestment into the force is our own "we are invincible!" PR campaign. Even amongst our own commanders I can tell you a high population of the Army leadership simply doesn't even view air superiority as something we will ever go to war without much less a trend we should keep allocating research toward improving.
