  1. So, you would not consider the incremental addition of firearms laws over the last 100 years... - NFA 1934 - GCA 1968 - Brady Bill 1993 - AWB 1994 - the varied state AWB/magazine/etc bans implemented since then ...as prima facie evidence a "slippery slope" of increasing restrictions over time? BTW, the fundamental difference between a topic like gay marriage and gun control is that one issue is trying to increase liberty, and the other is trying to restrict it. Increasing liberty has no finite end...it is potentially boundless. Restricting liberty has a very specific finite end that it can reach.

  2. I enjoy the irony of putting "Quiet Professional" on there.

  3. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Founding_Fathers_of_the_United_States#Education Most went to college, several were lawyers, and only 4 were self-taught or had little formal education. Also, the founding fathers created the judiciary branch so that lawyers could interpret the constitution for the lay people....

  4. The problem is that too many people have been convinced that the Constitution is something that can only be interpreted by a Federal judge, or at least by someone with a JD and a background in ConLaw. In reality, the Constitution was written by farmers and merchants, not one of whom went to law school, and it was meant to be a document for the people.

  5. I enjoyed the shit out of it. I think one one of the things that should holding you back from being blown away is Gosling’s slightly off putting “affect” for lack of a better term. I think if you watch it again that will make a little more sense and it will click in. Recommend. Three thumbs up (bqzip’s mom)

  6. Yeah...actually you are. There are plenty of legally owned fighter aircraft that are capable of employing ordnance, and explosives may be legally owned as destructive devices under the NFA.

  7. Blade Runner 2049: I'm a huge fan of the original 1982 Blade Runner, probably the top 5 of sci fi movies ever made. 2049..... 1) The quality of the filmmaking and cinematography is just outstanding. Visually just awesome, you need to see this on the big screen with the sound...period. 2) Story. If you aren't familiar with the original, you won't follow 2049. The 1982 story is just classic. Man-made slaves looking for "...more life...fu&ker" and trying to find the meaning of life before they are "lost... like tears... in rain". No spoilers here, but I was kept wondering what the answers were to particular questions raised as the movie moved along. 3) Harrison Ford does much better in this role than as Han Solo in the Star Wars remake. Ryan Gosling is terrific as well. Was I blown away, no....I am trying to put my finger on why. I think....like the original....this movie will grow on me as well. I just think the original story line from 1982 is a hard one to follow. I will probably find myself watching reruns of the original Blade Runner or Interstellar more than 2049. I'm glad I went to see it, and if you are a fan of the original....you will as well. Cheers ATIS

  8. You missed the point, a few pages ago I linked an article showing a country where guns are severely restricted (I'm being generous) and they are looking into banning knives, now its acid. In effect, I'm saying banning anything will not stop this behavior. I think your point is the gun makes the attack more massive, and while correct, Timothy McVeigh, any 9/11 attacker and so on might disagree with you. I'd argue cars are more dangerous. And a seriously restrictive gun law will not be passed, at least in the next few decades, not even worth arguing about.

  9. That's the beautiful thing about being a free man living in a liberal democracy: it isn't about "need". The whole point is that free citizens are allowed to pursue whatever makes them happy (within the limitations of not violating the rights of others) without having to garner the approval or permission or validation of any other person or organization. "Because I want to" is all the "need" anyone requires.

  10. My mistake - didn't mean to post in this thread in addition to the WTF thread where we've been having this discussion. To your bolded comment above - do you have any NFA items? Because I do and that's not how this works. Form 4 used to require CLEO approval for individuals but not for trusts. The requirements changed in July 2016 to require every form 4 to NOTIFY CLEO. 2 key points - now even if a trust owns the item you have to notify and second that individuals no longer require approval, just notification. For PCS you don't file a Form 4, you file a Form 5320.20 to transport NFA items across state lines. The 5320.20 takes 4-6 weeks to get back and costs you a stamp and 10 minutes to fill out. The Form 4 costs you $200 and 6-9 months (really optimistic wait time) to get back. Otherwise I agree with everything you said.

  11. Race is neither an analog for culture nor economic status, FWIW. There are people from every race that have a "disadvantaged background". No race has the market cornered in western society on "advantage" or "disadvantage", because race is a meaningless quality in a meritocracy. Nonetheless, even when speaking of economic or social status, "equality" doesn't mean "equity." We don't have equity, nor in a society that values both individual liberty, egalitarianism, and personal responsibility do we desire such a thing. It is the "land of equal opportunity", not the land of "equal outcomes".

  12. "In 2015, a police officer was 18.5 times more likely to be killed by a black male than an unarmed black male was to be killed by a police officer. Black males have made up 42 percent of all cop-killers over the last decade, though they are only 6 percent of the population." https://www.city-journal.org/html/hard-data-hollow-protests-15458.html I promise you, if the left keeps up these straw man protests, The Donald gets 8 years. And what comes after him is going to make liberals dream of the days when Ted Cruz was their biggest fear. On the plus side, NFL started are about the worst possible role models for American youth, so I hope they keep it up long enough to really sink the NFL for good. They won't, of course. Kaepernick got very quiet as soon as his career seemed imperiled, the others will declare "mission accomplished" and stand when they see their sponsorship deals dry up.
