  4. Just got done with the FC1/MFS. I highly recommend reading through this whole thread if you are concerned about the process. They got my group done in a day and a half but some people had to come back a third day for some more tests that only took a short amount of time. The Wright Patterson Inn is right across the street from the hospital (Bldg. 830) in Area A. They had us do our lab/urine testing and chest x-rays the morning of the first day. After that we went over to Bldg. 840 in Area B where we did the EKG, eye stuff, etc and then got to eat. The second half of the first day we did the psych test which took about 4 hours of staring at a computer screen. The second day we saw the flight doc, dentist, and got our eyes looked at again by the Opthemolegist. They will dilate your eyes so bring some sunglasses. The drops they use are freaky powerful too (mine are still not back to normal and its been like 48hrs+). I read some things about people getting tripped up by the color vision test which is understandable. I had to do a second one in a different room with an xbox controller but everything turned out to be alright. The computer makes it dang near impossible to see the letters once you get to a certain level. Just take your time with all the eye tests. The only other test that gave me a bit of trouble was with a light and red shaded glasses. I don't know what this is called but I would look up some youtube videos or something if you want to know more. You would see a double light depending on if the doc turned the fancy glasses a specific way or not. The staff are all very friendly and want to see you get through. Let me know if anyone has questions. Hope this helps!

  5. Huh...Are you new? When Gen Brown was the SOCOM/CC he basically forced AFSOC to divest all helos, besides the 53's were TIRED. To understand the CV-22 you have to understand SOCOM and AFSOC were born because of the failure at Desert One and a helicopter even today can not execute that mission in one period of darkness but the CV can. I was never a CV lover...in fact I hated, it killed two very good friends...then I flew it...then I commanded it in combat. It is a game changer that has had its hands tied by a manning shortfall driven by decisions from above. Is it perfect, nope, but on the battlefield today it IS the platform of choice of the high end users. I've heard the internal discussions about CSAR at AFSOC and not a single word of stealing assets or $...just how can we do this better. Sadly the CSAR O-6's will never listen because they have Stockhom Syndrome and still believe their ACC puppet masters will do the right thing.

  6. I'll add: - Plan massive tanker plans for OEF, OIF, etc., in the CAOC, while other tanker patches in WOCs build Night 1 packages for their crews and/or lead Night 1 missions. - Deploy to CAOC (too often) . . . and talk really slowly to CAF/other users who come up with grandiose/unexecutable plans refueling-wise - Plan large, refueling-intensive exercises, act as tanker SMEs in white cells, and/or lead exercise execution - Command ARWs (100 ARW/CC at Mildenhall: two in a row are tanker patches) . . . although this is the exception thus far - Advocate for maintaining standards/work to build & maintain critical skills, in the midst of an opstempo and leadership model that militate against developing expertise - Build AR tracks where users request them NKAWTG's assessment is accurate; those who volunteered for the WIC in the early 2000s in effect volunteered for huge arse pain. Aside from those who were clearly on the HPO track, those who graduated got the dual bonus of alternately deploying as aircrew or staff, followed by a deployment to the CAOC as a tanker planner, followed by another aircrew/deployed staff requirement . . . ad nauseum. Making oneself more eligible for deployments was hardly a selling point for the WIC early on. I'd say we're past that stage at this point; enough tanker patches to spread the wealth a bit more, and folks have a better idea what they bring to the fight. TT
