To all who are home celebrating with family and friends, may you have a wonderful Christmas and all the best in the New Year! For those who are elsewhere, you are in our thoughts and prayers. Please be safe, and when you return the first round is on me! Cheers! M24 points

Did my God Damn Meat Sacks lose their Obama phones again?! They’re going to bed with no food stamps tonight and you better believe they’re saying an extra “Hail Bernie” before they sleep.3 points

Who’s the entitled one in this thread? Probably the one posting too-long-to-read whining diatribes about F-ing fairness. Grow up. Merry Christmas, by the way.3 points

Without getting into too much detail, I also showed my cards, and my QoL became measuredly better. I was at a UPT base and resumed flying 4-5x a week. While I missed being operational, my work life was what I always imagined being a Pilot in the USAF would be like. In AF wisdom, they PCS'd me in the middle of my promotion shenanigans, and my gaining base got a whopping 10 months of qualified time before I started terminal. Any discussions about the irony of the situation with both the losing Wing CC and new functional was a rousing generic speech on how disappointed I must be with this outcome, and not to give up hope on being promoted ABZ. And now I sit here on terminal, vacationing in Europe, out 2 years early from my ADSC, and a CJO from a legacy airline. Life is good.2 points

Thanks man. I am pretty excited about additional authori-tie. (Cartman) Actually my life in the AF has been pretty awesome since I showed my cards. The best was when my ADO asked me to do something which was #1 a terrible idea, and #2 would have been a huge time suck on my part and I just said "Nah man. I ain't gonna do that". Then he asked me to supervise and make sure someone else did it to which I replied... "Nah brother, I ain't your guy, but I'll tell them you are looking to talk to them". (I am sure that will make some people on this board go ballistic on me, but seriously you don't understand the whole story) A week later he inquired how the job was going and I told him I had no idea. I guess he thought I was joking. The good part of this story is that I have flown a ton and actually contributed (debatable) to the mission. Life not caring about chasing down things that don't matter has been phenomenal. I have been able to go to work, do my job AND ONLY MY JOB, help out people who need help and then go home and be with my family. I am still holding out hope that I get good news in March, but even if I don't, I have 2 years left on my sentence and maybe just over 1 year if I get paroled for good behavior (unlikely). People have asked me if I would do it all over again knowing about the 100% promotion opportunity and my response is "hell yeah". As dumb as it may sound, I was able to tell the AF that I was unhappy with how they were running things and that I didn't want to play anymore. Yeah it may cost me about 6 months of O-4 pay, but the freedom that I gained has been well worth it. My wife told me the other day that she hadn't seen me this happy since I started flying.2 points

Hail Bernie, full of grace. Our commune is with thee. Blessed art thou among comrades, and blessed is the fruit of thy planned economy, communism. Holy marxism, Mother of Lennin, pray for us Capitalists, now and at the hour of our victory. Amen.1 point

Jeeeezus.....but at least we know where you stand. 1) BAH should be the same. Increase all rates to th w/dependent amounts and be done with it. 2) BAH has always been this way. Comparing to other jobs is irrelevant. Name another job that forces fathers to go and die in their country’s wars. Incentive pays to keep fathers (and mothers) in the fight longer. Otherwise we are just sending our single men (and women) to die. Yes, I realize war isn’t the same nowadays. 3) BAH is pennies. That Congress is willing to screw with pennies while billions are wasted elsewhere under corrupt circumstances is telling. 4) You can quit the line of BS that married don’t carry their weight. Not sure what your life and professional experience has been but with some exceptions I’m willing to bet that most married men and women do their equal share. If you have experienced otherwise I’m sorry. But like I said before there are enough times where I’ve covered for singles at high personal cost that I basically don’t agree with your complaint.1 point

for most people that have a family, few things are more important. when you have dependents, many of your values and choices are different than they'd be if you are single. those choices tend to be more measured, more conservative, and less motivated by self-interest. the above example of a single guy owning a garage full of atvs and a corvette supports this. every civilization every nation and therefore our af benefits from a large proportion of its members having the characteristics of a person "with dependents". there's nothing wrong with being single, but having a family brings balance to the force, is critical, and should be rewarded.1 point

Just be careful, there are still promotion boards and the bro network in the AFRC/ANG. That being said, you usually have a 6 month window or so of saying fuck off; I did it, and it was good, and there was much rejoicing across the land.1 point

Let's face it, the pilots can't hack it Extremely sweeping and ignorant statement. That’s like saying cops can’t hack not killing innocent people so EMTs should step up.1 point

Is this based on certain qualifications and leadership aspects or is it based on the SJW (social justice warrior) need to advance women regardless of qualification into leadership positions? There is an important difference...1 point

It's one thing as a single guy to volunteer to take bad deals so married people can be home for life events, it's another thing when the scheduler puts you on the bad deal without asking because "it doesn't matter if you miss Thanksgiving/Christmas/holiday/weekends because you're single, so you're on the trip/deployment/alert"1 point

most wings were ON TIME with their PRF deliverables that by the time the 100% was announced, all PRFs had been submitted by squadrons and groups and were already processed through DP and the wing front offices. This go round saved no time at the worker bee levels the board met from dec 3-14, not too surprised they didn't update Mpers on the 18th/19th. Not sure what they needed 2 weeks for either, as they don't have PRFs for 98% of the folks and they aren't selecting for school. Perhaps they are doing a complete look at the passed over and determining what to do with them. They may have spent 3 entire days on duck's trying to figure out the mess he made ;) i think we we are going to start see the Col and Lt Col rates go up as well. We are low on Cols, only way to fix that is through rapid promotion to include more BPZ. Just my opinion though, but many Cols just selected for Gp and Wg command are opting out for retirement. Oh, and CONGRATS, major select Duck!!! It's a 100% certainty (well, 100% opportunity) that you "made it" I hope for your sake that you didn't though. But assuming you are selected for promotion, what is your way forward now?1 point

Inactive duty points (UTA, TP, etc) don’t count toward AD retirement. They only count towards your reserve retirement check calculations drawn later in life. Only active duty days count toward active duty retirement. (RegAF time+ AGR, MPA, RPA, etc). They also count as one point per calendar day of active duty served toward reserve retirement calculations.1 point

Hell they couldn’t see the massive airline hiring about to take place 3 years ago and kicked out a bunch of pilots, but they are already looking at 2033. I’m sure they got it this time.1 point

Right, I think most of us single guys realize that deployments are tougher on those with wives and/or kids. That's why I and, in my experience, many bachelors try to raise our hands first for trips to the sandbox (as well as stuff like alert weekends, super late or early shows and "bad deal" TDYs). It's a reasonable give and take.1 point

I recommend pushing flight hours *earlier* in training, not later, by contracting a commercial-instrument rating for pilot selectees in a single-engine airplane *prior* to UPT. The vision: - Air Force generates a syllabus for civilian flight schools. - Instead of casual status, students fan out across the country to go get flight time prior to UPT. - Students earn 250+ hours in a single engine airplane a <$200/hr. - Students build air sense, learn to communicate on the radios, learn how to learn to fly, etc... - All students start UPT having completed a commercial-instrument and complete a short baseline academic syllabus to account for variance in civilian flight schools. - Air Force spends less time (money) teaching the basics and more time (money) on teaching "military" flying (formation, energy mgmt, etc). - Air Force avoids having to teach "air sense" at $600/hr in the T-6, much less $1,500/hr in the T-1, $3,200/hr in the T-38, or say... $8,200/hr in the F-16. - Hell... I had students come to me in the schoolhouse that couldn't enter a VFR traffic pattern, make a CTAF call, or recite their cloud clearances. I shouldn't be teaching this stuff in an aircraft that costs more than $200/hr to fly. IMO, this knowledge is the price of entry, not even worth reviewing in the FTU. Yet... here we are.1 point

Wait...you work duck? I don’t think I could ever find you when I needed to! Cheers!1 point

Yeah but you get an extra $250 a month for family separation so that totally makes up for it. I say this as I'm about to say bye to my two month old kid to do a nice non flying six monther... I can't wait to spend that extra $1500 of FSP! Where's my fvckin eye rolling emoji?!1 point
-
So I’ll pitch in with a possibly unpopular opinion that I guarantee will trigger Mark1, but the day to day sacrifice of deployments is exponentially worse on guys with kids than single dudes. I missed my wife’s birthday 4 years in a row, 3 Christmases, and a lot of other kid milestones (First steps, etc). Single guys missed Hangout Fest and the Star Wars premiere. I’m obviously exaggerating here, but when you said that, I was looking for my standardized eyeroll emoji.1 point

Yep... had a local MOA 100% cleared down to 500A/0.99M with low level ops happening daily. Normal noise complaints from Billy Bob's trailer park, etc for low levels. Patriotic small town folks call the airspace manager and ask if they can have a low pass for some funeral/rally/other patriotic event since they know they're in the MOA. OSS stops it from getting pushed up since a low flyover over a MOA town that someone complains about becomes an NSA with a CC: to the crew about the noise complaint, but a low flyover over a MOA town that they've asked for becomes an "unapproved aerial demo" since it was prearranged and results in Huggy's scenario.1 point

Seriously guys, just admit that you like your entitlement and that they'll have to rip those Obama phones out of your cold dead hands and then we can leave it alone. But don't try to explain it away logically. The feeble, reaching, attempts are desperate and that's not a good look. You pick up the shitty duty, and they get paid more. I see the give, but where's the take again? Happens every day. Um, yeah. It's probably a non-starter for everybody, as literally nobody has suggested it. There is one person in this thread suggesting that there should be parity in pay, but that's the extent of it. The word "change" suggests dissimilarity. We're already there. A more appropriate word for what I'm suggesting would be "same". Thanks for making my point for me. Everybody is doing the same job. Except w/dependent members have more deposited into their bank account at the end of the month. You need a big house for your family and think DoD should help you out with that? Since when did that become your employers problem? Name one other job on the planet that would supplement your pay explicitly because a couple of meat sacks fell out from between your wife's legs. What about the single guy who needs a room for his pool table and a 3 car garage for his ATVs and Vette? Should DoD accommodate his lifestyle with supplemental pay also? Unless you're prepared to say yes, just admit that you like your entitlement and will resist any attempt to take it from you. Although this is an inconsequential contributor to the overall problem, that attitude (which is pervasive, unfortunately), will be the eventual death of this country. As long as I get mine.. Lets see if you guys can get this post up to 20 trillion downvotes to match the national debt that has resulted from every entitlement beneficiary in the country raising hell with their representatives anytime it's suggested that their specific entitlement shouldn't be kept around. I just hope that I'm worm food before we get our comeuppance.-2 points
