  1. Get familiar with USERRA protections if not already. I had a gig at an airline throwing bags paying my way through school. Told Mgmt i’m entering active duty, they said send my EAD orders to HR, they collected my badge and sent me off no questions asked. I also sent a copy of orders to my union too for record. Been out 5.5 years and still have my position if i choose to go back. Still have flight benefits, been able to add my wife and kids to them as the years went on, it’s been pretty sweet. Word on the street is i still have my locker in our break room still too haha. If anything i’d suggest a place with a large workforce that will have the manpower to cover your loss should you end up on 6 month orders short notice...that is if u care. If u dont, any company that supports your lifestyle between orders works in my experiences. For insight into the “professional” companies, had a mentor working for Berkshire Hathaway doing “professional” type things. He was on orders for like 4 years, BH did away with his former position and made a new one for him when his orders ended...then he ended up on long term orders again soon after he went back.

  2. Paperwork does matter, not putting dick bags like Rat and Sush in charge is even more important.

  7. Amen...Unity march, Everyone is a Warrior, punishing the entire base when one jackwagon gets a DUI, and sycophantic senior leaders with closets full of skeletons who serve only themselves...those are the reasons I got out. Also, for the the record I don;t think anyone needs a reason to get out. As an O-6 I spoke with multiple folks who were on the fence and the first thing I always said was "Thanks for your service, you are part of the 1% that raised your hand to serve and if you think getting out is the best thing for you and you family, godspeed, grateful you gave us the time you did."

  8. What you identify as poor leadership is actually someone asking you as an IP to be a fucking adult, sorry that is so difficult for you. Enjoy the airlines, I am sure you "me only" attitude will serve you quite well in the interview process. For the record I retired to get away from caustic leadership and a broken system, I think most of the people that served with me (some on here), know I was not into the you should be ridiculed because I was ridiculed routine, but getting offended because someone asks you to make sure you training paperwork is squared away...dear god, get the sand out of your vagina.

  11. If they really wanted to give the public an accurate demo of it's capabilities, it'd sit stationary on the ramp leaking hydraulic fluid with this playing in the background...

  12. Yup. In the AC-130H we had two 20MMs up front and they were loud, especially when you shot them both at once. One of the best things about the 20MM was all the gun gases swirling around in the plane. The crew entrance door on the H model was modified to hold a low-light TV sensor, an illuminator (only visible on NVGs), and a laser for rangefinding and designating targets. As a result it was open to the slipstream of the aircraft. The weapons troops always kept the 20MM barrels oiled up to fight off corrosion. When you fired the 20MMs the oil on the barrels would burn off and combine with the gun gases, then it would come ripping into the aircraft. Because of the airflow from the open crew entry door, the mixture would flow right up the stairs into the cockpit, bounce off the roof and curl down in between your face and the HUD...it was fucking awesome and one of the few things I miss about being in the AF.
