This is worth what you paid for it, YMMV, etc, etc I've seen a lot of my young enlisted guys tell me how they want to be a pilot. They enlist for tuition assistance, money, experience, whatever. All good reasons. I'd say more than 90% of them never even get an application together and submit it. Various reasons - most common is they drag their feet through school because they like being a crew chief/med tec/engine shop guy or the unit deploys and they have to go. One thing leads to another and they are all the sudden scrambling at 29 to take the tests, finish school and rush the squadron. Never works. If you enlist as a means to become a pilot, be warned: you aren't the first one to try it, some make it most (IME) don't. I love my enlisted dudes, couldn't make it happen without them and there's absolutely nothing wrong with the work they do or the career they chose. For a lot of them it was their second choice - just know that going in.

If this were a one-off, I'd be with you. But the fact we've relieved so many commanders, coupled with the way we choose them means that there is something systemically wrong with the selection of these commanders. Who bears the responsibility for that, the people being chosen or the people doing the choosing?

Just make sure they use Cyclopentolate and not Tropicamide/Phenylephrine (which is what is typically used). They will likely yield different results.

I should have mentioned this previously. The AF changed the CCT standard to 55 for each cone. So you don't need perfect color vision. There's really not a good correlation between CCT and Ishihara. If you meet the refractive standards, there may be some hope in getting a CCT score that's within standard (55 or above on each cone type).

Oops... didn't scroll down that far. Still doesn't address the concerns of whether it has been tested using pressurized O2 and yes, as other people have mentioned, what about comms? What about the exposed kneck? This mask was designed for the conventional chem suit with hood that zips and buttons up around your kneck. Anyway, probably all things they've thought of already not mentioned in the article.

You need to update your data-C-130s have been gone from Nashville since 2012. If age is your limfac, RPAs are your best bet. Nashville just held a URT board, so next one is likely at least 6-9 months away. Nashville is very open to speaking with folks that are interested. Manning is pretty good but they are always trying to be prepared for force mgmt. Memphis is undergoing some leadership changes. Not sure if they are actively hiring for UPT or not. Call them to find out. I believe they have a difficult time keeping full timers since purple is across the ramp Knoxville is usually fairly consistent on UPT boards and are also getting ready to undergo a few leadership changes. If I happen to hear of their next board, I will post it here. I believe Bergman is a current member and he may be able to shed some light on their hiring situation.

RF-4C 1. Ops tempo: Outstanding. Best kept secret. Basically a flying club. As a 1Lt it's your airplane with great responsibility; "All we ask is bring it back in one piece." Flying is mostly low level single ship to where ever YOU and your WSO decide to go that day. Not flying, review your film from previous day, do a tour in the RSU, perhaps a little studying in the vault, shelf check at the BX. TDY's and deployments minimal and considered a good deal. AAR training every couple of months. Night AAR is always scheduled with a full moon. If stationed in Germany always save a little fuel for the fur ball with whomever is trolling along the Rhine. 2. LIfestyle/family: Could not be better. Home every day by 5. No working weekends. If stationed in Germany most have a rental Swiss chalet for the winter skiing months. 3. Community morale: Excellent. Surprising amount of fellow pilots UPT DG's. Some turned down fighters to fly Recce. Everyone works and pulls together. 4. Advancement & Future of Airframe: Terrible, once Recce always Recce according to MPC although I managed a 4 yr OA-37 assignment to DM. (another flying club). NO future dedicated manned Recce airframes. 5. Preferred PCS locations: Zweibrucken, Alconbury, Bergstrom. Oh crap, just got up from a nap. Dreaming it was 1977 and not 2017! Sorry guys, you missed a great time in the AF. 10 years AD then off to a legacy airline.
