Step 7: you now have the money to get serious about other forms of recreational aviation. Go to Oshkosh... go to the Reno Races and roam through the pits... find the passion for cool aviation that has waned. Go find something fun to do at your local airport.6 points

Come on man, I'm not Trump lover and voted for a few Dem's in the last election, but you're stretching here. 1) Besides her therapist...who? I've seen nothing else in the news about ANYONE else she told even close to temporaneously. 2) That's not evidence of anything. You love it when jihadi's and white supremacists wear masks to remain anonymous too? 3) Is she...finally? How long did that take, and how far does the Senate judiciary committee need to bend over to get this "poor poor victim" to bend over to share her story. 4) A professor, from CA taking on big bad Republican Supreme Court nominee who's going to tear out women's uteruses personally? She's got a shit ton to gain. WTF are you talking about. Between the book, interview and movie money. There's the fact she's in a extremely liberal start, in a highly liberal profession. I'll put real money on her getting some NOW award at the end of the year, and this probably helping her move up the ivory tower further. 30 years...of living in CA, in academia and NOW is the time she comes forward. Not during Obama's time when the college's were kicking out dudes over text-messages and not-really-rape-but-she-said-it-was-after-you-didn't-reply-back-fast-enough. Plus the new accusations are so fucking ridiculous...hope you never had a drinking game where someone's pants came off. You're accessory to sexual assault. This shit stinks of the gulag courts...which seems about right for where they want us headed. I guess K will throw himself on the mercy of the committee and beg for forgiveness for contradicting the always right "victim."4 points

Old guys: "The AF sucks. I'm leaving." New guy: "Yes, it does. I want out." Old guys: "WTF? Snowflake! ! You're going to get yourself or someone else killed! Be positive! It's all worth it! Best job ever! Your marriage is in trouble! Seek counseling!" euser, Your experience is your experience. If you believe you are having a poor experience in the AF, then you actually are having a poor experience. Your grievances aren't anything new or unique, so why are you being blamed for them? As the new guy, you need to realize anything you post here is not a contribution for selfless intellectual discussion, but an opportunity for a few others to practice self-righteousness and judgement, but not empathy. While there are many good discussions here, just be aware that you're currently involved in one where your post is being used to feed an addiction cycle of empowerment among some of the regulars. Remember that despite what appears to be "advice", the goal here is to make you respond indignantly and emotionally, not help you. The best advice you'll ever get on this website is never, ever, come here expecting to have a serious and honest exchange, about anything. This forum is only a game. Pot stir - Complete. đ4 points

Yup, lots of interesting peeps in the enlisted force in the Guard. I knew one who is a self made millionaire, a few who were legacy airline pilots, one who was doing their residency while still an E-6 and an E-9 whose company easily makes him more than a 4-star. We have some great people doing some pretty awesome things out there.1 point

My experience was: You cannot 7-day opt if you have greater than 2 years ADSC on the RNLTD to your new assignment, you don't even have the option if you have > 2 years retainability Once you have a separation date set as a result of executing a 7 day opt, you cannot Palace Chase. You can however Palace Front if you plan on going to the Guard which will help assure as seamless transfer and no breaks in service (worked for me) You're also not eligible for things like VSP, which I unfortunately missed out on since I already had a separation date set; not applicable right now but recorded for posterity The clock does start on notification. I was notified by an AFPC email while deployed approx. 4 months prior to my RNLTD and had 7 days from that time to decide Big Blue can absolutely send you anyways - I was sent on my assignment with 11.69 months of retainability, i.e. far short of the "normal" 24-month minimum for a PCS That being said, I think most people end up remaining in place and serving as required at their current duty station, at least that's what happened to some other folks who 7 day opt'd the same assignment I eventually had to go on Definitely get smart on the appropriate regs, and if you can, gain the support of your SQ/CC and functional manager for your desired COA May the odds ever be in your favor!1 point

@UPTapplicant2017 I'll be heading out there. Bringing another applicant along as well (he's coming in from CA, but he'll be crashing at my place since I live 4 hours away). Shoot me a PM if you'd like so we can exchange information and meet after the drill; grab some food and hang out with us.1 point

My dad passed away last New Year's Eve and my mom will eventually hand me my dad's Vietnam and Navy Reserve logbooks. I'll carry those books with me till I pass them to my kid, should one choose to be a flyer. His handwriting in those logbooks is an awesome keepsake. I keep my logbook in Excel, but it just doesn't have the same feeling, you know?1 point

That's why Lt Bagodonuts shouldn't be working these things. Coordination occurs at the staff level. If that is failing, a GO needs to crush the staff, not piss on some poor Lt and tell him to "just make it work." Oh, and I hope your brain doesn't get fried with the VR frame rate issues. I'm sure a human factors study would have been appropriate, but, you know, innovate.1 point

I misplaced my small black jepp logbook (the one that you get with their private pilot kit) not long after I got my PPL and I never kept up with my flight time once in the AF. So here I am sitting in my first (and thankfully only) airline interview handing one of the interviewers my single page HARM summary. They looked at it a total of 6-9 seconds, set it aside and didn't ask me a single question about it. When I was in indoc, I mentioned that I finally made it to the big-time and I wanted to get a nice, professional logbook where I could finally start tracking of my flight time and keep it prominently displayed on my mahogany bookshelf with the other leather-bound books in my study. The instructor says to me "Why? Are you planning on getting another flying job?" LOL....nope. So now, to this day, I still don't keep a logbook, but if I could go back and start over, I probably would.1 point

What does she gain by coming forward now? Undue influence on a Constitutional process with, it appears, a massive case "he did me wrong in jr. high and I'll show him." Supposedly it's a "he said/she said" thing. Except "he said, and another he said, and another named witness said" they don't even remember the party. Never mind some teenage horseplay that has become attempted rape because she said so. By raising allegations in the political arena - nothing via filing charges that is known and no civil case brought - but a victim letter now gets her a real opportunity to screw with this nomination. She gets to influence the political process a lot more than any other citizen is allowed to. I can call my senators and express my opinions. She gets to try to derail the whole thing. If or whatever happened between these two, it's convenient that she wrote her letter now (and "remembered the incident in therapy in 2012." Which is when candidate Romney had Kavenaugh on a list of his potential Supreme Court picks). It reflects poorly on the Democrats by holding the letter since July. If they want justice for the victim, why not raise it immediately or go to law enforcement then? If Ford wanted anonymity, she shouldn't have signed her name. If this actually works, and the de facto standard becomes guilty because she said so, then we are fcuked. If she testifies on Thursday, I expect her on the talk show circuit on Friday, with a book out by next week, followed by a pilot for a talk show. Then utterly forgotten by the Democrats and history. The GOP has been nearly completely rolled on this one. I give the Democrats props for designing and executing the strategy well. The ultimate goal is to defeat Trump and his pick. Didn't matter who it was. Mid-term elections is the goal line. Secondary goal is to delay beyond 30 Sep since tradition has it that a new justice doesn't join a Supreme Court session already in progress. Interesting to know what cases are on the next docket. As noted earlier, if RBG kicks the bucket, and/or Sotomayor succumbs to her diabetes/high blood pressure/whatever, those nominees' reputations will likewise be tarnished merely by some heinous allegation. //signed// The Duke Lacrose Team1 point

Step 1: Start out wide eyed and bushy tailed. Flying fighters/heavies/helos is the best thing you've ever done. Step 2: Try to change the world. Step 3: Get struck down for Step 2. Become disillusioned as the machine attempts to swallow you whole. (See: Monkey/Cage theory) Step 4: Find a Guard/Reserve Unit and GTFO. Step 5: Get hired by the airlines. Make a lot of money. Step 6: Military flying becomes fun again because you're suddenly kevlar and a true volunteer. You don't care about changing the world and the feeling from Step 1 returns. Step 7: ??? Step 8: Profit.1 point

I'd say it's pretty obvious you chose poorly. WTF did you even go to UPT for? Show me the information you used to come to the conclusion that you wouldn't be expected to work long hours, live somewhere you may not have chosen to live or control every aspect of your life? Holy shit dude! Do you think civilians in professional fields don't work long hours or get relocated? Military families sacrifice. That's not new information. How about your spouse worry less about her professional career and more about raising your kids. One less group of latchkey kids in daycare which ends up costing just as much as the working spouse is making - net pay zero. T-38 vs C-5 vs 11F...... ever hear of a phrase that goes... "The needs of the AF"? You think you're the first guy to get put into a MWS that wasn't his first choice? You think you'd be seeing your kid more flying a C-5 around the planet? If you're spending most of your time in a fighter worrying about that laundry list you have there, you need to ground yourself. You clearly lack the confidence in your abilities to do that job effectively. Getting violated...đ GMAFB. Going to war/participating in contingency ops has been part of life in the USAF since 1990. Once again, it appears you chose poorly. Having regard for "life outside the military" is for when you're no longer in the military. Welcome to reality - either change your goals to match it or look into changing your AFSC before you do kill yourself or someone else. Guard or reserves isn't the solution to your problem.1 point

RAND folks have no idea what they're talking about. In my 28 years on active duty, the worst base for sexual abuse... by far the worst... was Randolph. The majority of pilots I know were sexually abused by personnel at that base. Though I was able to avoid the ubiquitous and frequent raping, it happened to many of my friends. Many of them separated at their earliest opportunity due to the repercussions of said abuse. The amazing part is that this abuse still occurs and is known by USAF leadership. It is important to know where to find the culprits. They are hidden behind the letter A, F, P, and C. Keep your guard up! I'm sure many of you have been sexually abused by AFPC. If so, you are not alone.1 point

It's not necessarily about excluding them on purpose. It's about presenting the Air Force and flight training as an option to communities that don't usually hear that kind of thing, and hoping a few of them get interested. It's easy for a white boy from the suburbs of an Air Force base to get into the idea of joining to be a pilot. It may be harder for a girl who, even in 2018, still hears "That's a man's job" or "model airplanes are boy's toys". Similarly, in communities that are historically less educated, we can reach into those communities and show them the types of opportunities that exist for those willing to get an education. We may even reach the point where, similar to what the Air Force does with lawyers and doctors, we start paying for high school candidates with a high aptitude for flight to get an undergraduate degree (aside from the highly competitive USAFA process). I'm with you. The idea that we should weed out white men because "we have to many" or that we should promote minorities "to increase representation" is just terrible reasoning all the way around. I'm saying that we can do things to increase the number of minorities entering the service, giving us a greater number to pull from to fill those leadership positions/cockpits/etc.1 point

I thinks there is enough pushback, we used to be innocent until proven guilty. Prove it. He said/she said doesnât work anymore, especially if it was how many years ago? Her history of activism and support for certain people also makes it very fishy. We should never ignore these claims, but shouldnât give the accused consequences without some judge deciding on the facts. I peronally think itâs a bullshit political play, call me heartless, I donât care. We see how the Dema deal with accusations a la Monica, scorched earth and lives destroyed (not on Clintonâs side for sure). I think we should give them a taste of their own medicine. This is such a load of horse crap. The Democrats have flung this crap at the wall and are hoping something sticks. If K is innocent, he goes on the Supreme Court. If he is guilty, he not only no longer goes onto the Supreme Court and he loses he DC Circuit Court job which would be like be convicted. So, let's treat this like a criminal case because everyone is innocent until proven guilty under our system of justice. Okay, the FBI isn't a player since it would not be a federal case since it was not on federal property and nobody was a federal employee. The FBI investigated the Anita Hill accusations because of it was federal jurisdiction. They found nothing but Democrats still accuse and call Clarence Thomas a sexual predator. Anything that might have happened would be under the jurisdiction of the Maryland police. Well, the statute of limitations has expired, so they won't take it. Well, since the accusation was made by a woman and therefore must be heard no matter how sparse of facts, let's throw this in front of the circus that the Senate has become. The idiot Ford can't remember where, when, or who and nobody will back up here story. Doesn't matter, she is a woman sparse of facts and must be heard. She has demanded that K can't be in the room. Fine. She has demanded that she can't be questioned by K's lawyers. Well, that will get us nowhere since the Democrat Senate morons will just do more grandstanding in search of a Spartacus moment. Whatever happened to confront your accuser as guaranteed by our system of justice? She has demanded that K must testify first. How in the hell do you defend yourself if you have no idea what "facts" your accuser is going to use and thus be able to refute them. In no court is this miscarriage of justice allowed. Democrats are trying to run out the clock hoping to take the Senate in November. Screw them. Treat this like a grand jury hearing but the accused is allowed to give testimony in his defense. Give her the opportunity to testify under oath, K is already under oath, and if more information is brought forward that lends credence to further investigation that would torpedo K's career, investigate that information or dump K. If all Ford has is the current load of BS, vote K out of committee and put it on the Senate floor.1 point

Here's the point I'm trying to make. It doesn't matter who is sitting next to me in the jet or who is on my wing, I just want them to be well trained and proficient in the mission. Diversity doesn't matter there-I don't care as long as they can hack the mission. However, as a service, we should care about diversity because it helps expose cultural assumptions and blind spots, which can affect both retention and recruiting. Maybe people don't show up to the recruiters office because they just don't understand the military, or have misconceptions about military service. Or that there are many ways to serve as well as paths to service. I didn't find out about ROTC until my academy interviewer mentioned that as another path to become an officer and a pilot, and that was as an Army brat. Many civilians I've met are surprised that I'm a military pilot, since I wear glasses, as they thought you could only be a pilot with uncorrected 20/20 vision. It's also increasingly likely that prior have never met anybody in the military, and have no frame of reference for what it means to serve outside of what they see on the news or in media. So why not reach out to those people? If we are only bringing in one group of people within our recruiting pool, they WILL change the culture of our military, as they will bring with them cultural norms and biases with them. It'll be a slow change, but it will change. The environment people serve in is absolutely relevant to recruiting, and retention. It feeds into those conceptions about what military service is like. This also goes beyond just diversity. What I was getting at with my OPR comment is that they don't matter: if you aren't on the HPO list, you're probably not going to get very far, no matter what you do or how good you are. If you are on the list, well, just don't do anything to embarrass your sponsor. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk1 point

You seriously regret flying military aircraft only a year after UPT? Sounds like you should never have gone to UPT in the first place. No punks/future punks should form their opinion based on the metric shit ton of sport bitching that goes on here (Iâm guilty). I spent 11 years AD and had a great time; the bullshit was there, but itâs not as bad as it seems here except in unique cases. And I say that not just because things worked for me, but because I can count on one hand the amount of legitimate âhe got screwedâ times that happened across 9 years in 4 fighter squadrons I was in + at least 6 others I was close with (i.e. the other FS on base), not to mention talking to friends from all over different communities in the AF. I got out because the next 9 years was not going to work for my family, but the first half of your career when youâre not married/married with no kids/only have very young kids - the things we bitch about as Majs with 2 older kids and a wife are just not a big deal yet. If youâre a young guy who wants to fly, you should consider the guard for sure, but donât discount AD. Yeah youâll probably want to punch around year 8-10, but thereâs a good chance youâll have a pretty good time for those 8-10 years. Thereâs also a chance youâre miserable, but I think thatâs truly unlikely unless you are the most unlucky person in the world, or more likely, youâd still have a shitty attitude even if offered free blow jobs every day. FWIW, several of my airline friends talk about how much the old captains bitch about how much the airlines suck now, the company is always screwing pilots, management is bullshit, the old days were millions of times better than now, etc. Sound familiar? This is not to defend all the fuckery of the AF and the asshats who climb the ladder and are the root causes of many problems, but how bad do you want to fly awesome airplanes and shoot ISIS in the face/directly support those who do? If sport bitching Majs and some threat of dumb queep makes you second guess it, then go be a CFI, work your way to a regional, eventually get to a major and enjoy life.1 point

I'll tell you the B-1s are working with the guys from UPT-Next on a VR set-up for the FTU. So...not exactly a separate solution, and not exactly without outside expertise. I get what you're saying...but the guys in the trenches of the FTU don't want to wait another decade for the Air Force to finally move on this program, so they're doing it themselves, with wing-level funding from things like the Spark Tank competitions, and dragging our training into the 21st century in SPITE of our cyber organization, instead of being able to LEVERAGE our cyber organization.1 point

Maybe. But a dismissal is a felony equivalent in civilian employment circles. So even for regionals it's probably a stretch; the regionals have plenty of low time applicants with clean criminal records. This cat is marked. Nobody in the civilian world gets confinement for consensual sex. So it's not an even playing field, when it comes to UCMJ adjudications versus the civilian criminal law landscape. I am of the opinion his sentence was an overreach. And to keep it in the BUFF family: Kelly Flynn (ugh, beer word) got a straight up pass for doing the same fucking thing in 1997, while arguing sexist bias towards her as an affirmative defense for her bored fucketry in Minot, and the lack of hands or work ethic as a short-stint Buff co-pilot (IOW, the golden key defense, STANDARD). Walked away from a court martial outright, and into a layup general discharge, which allowed her into ASA and the eventual UPS job she's been riding on since 2005, her name legally changed of course. Nevermind the fact she got zero confinement for her equal disregard for the almighty UCMJ. The civilians at the time absolutely sided with her in her quest to decry the anachronisms of the "patriarchal military justice system". But this cat does the same thing 20 years later, even making a similar UCI argument on appeal no less, and this is all of a sudden blasphemy? I can't stand that hypocrisy. Look, I don't personally know this cat, but what they did to him punishment wise is bullshit. Hell, give him confinement as the price for pulling that insubordinate sexual stunt (beats a barrel roll in a Q400 I suppose). But the dismissal (dishonorable equivalent for officer) was flagrant. Different spanks for different genitals. Equality my ass. The SQ/CC in question was a straight up POS, and ruined the careers of other young men who actually didn't do anything but be falsely accused by the spouses of bitter SNAPs who didn't get their dream assignment. Not a good track record for DLF on this front.1 point

I will say this, itâs tough for the FAIPs. They are closer to the students age then the âwife and 2 kidsâ MWS guy who is at a minimum 5 years older than him. It's cool still fly with your mask down, because ejections are sOOOo rare. Oh wait.... The Air Force found the OBOGS problem and has a solution... just enjoy it in 4 years.... Nothing to see here. Off Topic: VR takes about 3-4 hours per 1 min of instructional video. This work has been dumped on no less than 5 Active Duty members in my squadron alone, the other squadrons are also jumping on the band wagon. So not only are we innovating like rabbits breed, but we are duplicating effort and shared information is spotty at best. But that's cool innovate gets you hard.0 points

I think VR is going to be fantastic for a lot of training. It's not going to take 15 years, and not with the fire that Cyber and pilot production has. We have internal AF developers that can kick down doors and get this shit done. FFS the last 24 AF/CC was a Viper driver and is now ACC/CV... Win10 migrations was having significant changes to the network every week. They got done because CSAF, AFSPC and 24 AF CC stood behind it. With SECAF, CSAF, AETC CC (and ACC/CC) behind it this could work the same. The "no" monkey's are dying out or being killed. We've still got some POS Col's/Lt Col's, but they're self-identifying and removing themselves for areas of resistance. The GS/SES's on the other hand...well...look at this OBOGS issue, we're stuck with these old fuckers. As a Cyber dude I know all about being behind the tech curve. I worked for the past 2 years watching AFNET burn down while we shoveled cash to some GO's pet project of cloud email (you're welcome for your 99 GB email, sorry about not being able to login). Before that was 18 years of "why the hell do we have to maintain base infrastructure with end of year funds?" I shouldn't get a call from some FAIP in Austin on Thursday about how to hook VR up to AFNET for updates/google maps access/whatever and he needs a solution by Friday. He's not talked to his Comm Sq or his A6. He's not even sure who's providing his current internet connection, or how it runs. His OG/CC sent him there TDY with the mandate to "get it to work." I hope that bro got more assistance from my AETC/A6 POCs, he'd never spoken to them about the project. That phone call sucked--that's a fucking foul on Ops. If you don't think I know what I'm talking about, read through my post history and I'd advise you to feel free to stay in your lane and stfu. Apologies for the thread derail, back to OBOGS.-3 points
