I think that's pretty common for the "get off my lawn" types in their later years. That's also why they eat dinner at 1600.4 points

I did, eleven years ago. Boeing 737. It's working out great. Besides, I'm not willing to commute more than 25 miles to a Guard job, so I'm stuck with the Herc for the next 6 months till retirement. It's about the bullshit to flying ratio. Example: the Herc is a more "spiritually" rewarding and challenging aircraft to fly well than the 737, by let's say, a factor of two. Most are more than willing to accept twice as much bullshit to get to fly it. Recent studies have shown the bullshit required to fly an AF aircraft the duration of your career exceeds the bullshit to fly a major airline aircraft by at least a factor of 5. The airlines also pay me to forget about airline bullshit. Principles are a luxury for those who have options. đ4 points

General PSA... The number of sh!tty cover letters and resumes I've seen is ridiculous. If you're sending a resume, it should include a cover letter. Research what makes a good cover letter. Double check the grammar and spelling. Everyone knows you've wanted to fly a jet since you were little or it would be the best job ever. The cover letter should summarize your qualifications and highlight what will set you apart from others, or suggest why you will succeed in the pipeline. Get the unit right. Dont confuse the SQ # with the Wing #. Do some research on the job you're applying to. You can easily include test scores, miscellaneous training, flying times into your letter (if thats all you're sending). For resumes, again, attention to detail. Action/Impact/Result format works well. Dont mix tenses. Make it clean and organized. Objective/Career Experience/Education/Security clearance/flight experience/skills/awards/etc. I've seen so many people just take the sample cover letter that units post and slightly modify it... give me a break. From a majority of what I've seen.. if it was for a corporate job, I wouldn't hire them. Disorganized, no attention to detail, looks lazy. You're applying for the best job in the world, make it look like it.3 points

I've been in the same MWS for 10 years and have experienced/accomplished new things the entire time. At least in the fighter world, if you've "done everything" in a few years, you're lying to yourself.3 points

Why would you be up at 0430 ? Thatâs gotta be either a great binge or terrible idea or both.2 points

Iâm currently in IQT for my 3rd MWS, and there was a trainer tour in there too, and Iâm at 14 years of service. Yes, itâs still totally possible, just takes effort, and the performance to justify being advocated for. Certainly keeps things interesting, and Iâm still a happy camper. Give it a shot if it will keep your cynicism needle off the peg. That was my motivation.2 points

Since probably 90% of Baseops wasn't born yet/then,...humor me....I actually look forward to seeing "First Man", despite the Hollywood spin. I vividly recall watching the landing as a Cadet. The Vietnam war was pretty much in full s..t, and we were all looking forward to getting into the game. Little did we know back then...but that's another story...However, we were beating the DRPCBs to the moon. I have had the honor of meeting both Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. Once as a cadet, and later flying Neil and his wife to Athens in a MD-11. Anyway, sadly we are again in a s..t show, but it was far worse in the late 60s and early 70s and we will get through this.2 points

I'm guessing the dems and movements like #metoo don't have the SA to realize how much damage they've actually done to furthering women in our society. Hire a chick? Fuck that, she might call me out in 10 years for making a joke and I'll get fired. Invite a chick coworker out for beers after work with the guys - hell no, she may try to claim somebody got her drunk so they could take advantage. As a dad I'm saddened my son will have to be wary of every chick he comes in contact with. My daughter will likely lose opportunities because men don't trust her (and why would they not be wary?) This entire circus has set women back in our society.2 points

1 of 8 can provide the correct WX required to deal with the crap WX at KCVS today and successfully land. Thanks to the FAIP Mafia for providing the CHAFF for filing requirements to KCVS... Grow a pear (!?)... CPs,, CSOs,.... even MPs... W. T. F.!? You're lost. How do you get to your first base!?1 point

B-2s do the same thing and it works fine. First Assignment bubba's go through PIT to be T-38 IPs before they can go to the B-2. There are SPs who's lifelong dream is to be a U-2 driver. I think the program will work fine.1 point

I thought Canuks could already have beards...but I guess I've just met a lot of Pioneer Sergeants! But then there's these guys... And speaking of beards, has the USAF lower it's standards for issuing shaving waivers? It seems like I see more and more airmen in uniform with beards lately than I ever recalled in the past...1 point

Not a dumb question! Super awesome question. Everybody should ask it! There were a couple non-flying IMA positions as of May. I donât think thatâs changed.1 point

By the beard of Zeus â Canadian military OKs facial hair Unfortunately, I'll probably retired before this comes to the USAF... https://www.militarytimes.com/off-duty/military-culture/2018/09/28/by-the-beard-of-zeus-canadian-military-oks-facial-hair/1 point

All true but a mono fleet also leads to a mono industrial base - fewer companies fewer innovative/different solutions to missions. We have to distribute contracts to give us more options than Big B or Lockmart Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

No doubt. Passed thru Romania years ago and the talent was plentiful. Just a guess but I think that is the runway being not exactly smooth as glass and causing that pitot boom to go bipolar... Skip to the 5:00 mark for this MiG 21 landing (nothing special) and the same thing is happening1 point

T-50 or T-X, all the same MIC-laden potato, same engine even. I'm just glad they got it on the board. . I'll still be in by IOC so def look forward to flying it. We need to retire the 38 right yesterday1 point

^solid Something thatâs exciting can get boring after X years flying the same mission. When you have nothing left to achieve or accomplish in that community itâs time to find a new one/challenge, before you become that disgruntled dude just waiting to retire1 point

I think this article accompanying the editorial cartoon by the author is significant (the cartoon itself is not, frankly). The artist is typically fairly left-leaning, so the temperament with which he wrote to be very even keeled to me says something about this hearing. https://www.cleveland.com/darcy/index.ssf/2018/09/kavanaughford_testimony_trauma.html1 point

Shaggy made me a better pilot when I was a green-as-grass CP going through the 62AS... and he kicked my ass again when it was time to become an instructor pilot. Godspeed, Shaggy. You are missed, brother. Best regards, Linda1 point

Love watching all social media reactions on Kavanaugh. The most satisfying are the ladies talking about white male privilege interspersed with their discussion of how spinning classes and shopping will take their minds off this horrible injustice while they are supported financially by their white male husbands out doing jobs. Yes they are. One of his favorite lines: "Duck Sausage! How about you duck down and get you some sausage"! Reagan was hands down the greatest pilot, aircraft commander and officer I have ever known. He was in a league of his own. He was also a devout christian, a boxer at the Zoo, married to his high school sweetheart, master diver, foster parent, scout leader, duck hunter extraordinaire who took wounded warriors on hunts, and a weapons officer. The Herk community truly did lose one of it's finest. I will miss him. Some clarification on the news article. He was a current member of the Arkansas Guard.1 point

what's worse is being disillusioned from one of the earlier assignments and you say fuck this, I'm out. Go on to a new assignment/deployment/unit that gives you hope in the big blue machine, only to be crushed again when the good deal/time runs out. You end up drinking yourself into a stupor and wonder why you fall for this shit twice... *in theory only, not from personal experience1 point

Old guys: "The AF sucks. I'm leaving." New guy: "Yes, it does. I want out." Old guys: "WTF? Snowflake! ! You're going to get yourself or someone else killed! Be positive! It's all worth it! Best job ever! Your marriage is in trouble! Seek counseling!" euser, Your experience is your experience. If you believe you are having a poor experience in the AF, then you actually are having a poor experience. Your grievances aren't anything new or unique, so why are you being blamed for them? As the new guy, you need to realize anything you post here is not a contribution for selfless intellectual discussion, but an opportunity for a few others to practice self-righteousness and judgement, but not empathy. While there are many good discussions here, just be aware that you're currently involved in one where your post is being used to feed an addiction cycle of empowerment among some of the regulars. Remember that despite what appears to be "advice", the goal here is to make you respond indignantly and emotionally, not help you. The best advice you'll ever get on this website is never, ever, come here expecting to have a serious and honest exchange, about anything. This forum is only a game. Pot stir - Complete. đ1 point

Geezus, reading the new millennial snowflakes who are a notch below my generation of S.N.A.P.s complain because they âheard it on the internetâ makes me want to flog myself for the 17 yrs of sport bitching. Bottom line to you new guys: the USAF could solve everything we complain about today and tomorrow we would be on here complaining about something new. âHot pits? Why canât we just hit a tanker?â âBFM again!! Thatâs 3x this week and my neck hurts!â âI only got to shoot 200 rounds on the range but capt Xxxx got 250...what a screw job!â âThey capped my unrestricted climb at 10k...f-ing ATCâ âCan you believe I got sh-t for not using my govât cc? Canât believe I had to fly a fighter across the US, stay on the strip in Vegas then put up with this BS where I donât get my reward points.â âSpeeding on base ticket? SF guy just wishes he was a pilot and taking it out on me.â âYearly FOD walk on a down day? Donât they know Iâm a f-ing pilot...letâs hide in the bar and drink coffee with booze instead at 8am.â âYou have a problem with my patch that says âf-ckâ?? I bet you never even saw the patchy shop in Korea you GD nonner shoeclerkâ âBud Light...WTF is wrong with Ltâs these days. I pay a solid $6 per month for unlimited beer and this is what I get? Back when I wAs LPA...â Yeah thereâs a ton to bitch about and even the coolest parts of the job get repetitive and the fun wears off. Itâs still the greatest job in the world. If you are lucky enough to do it, save your saltiness for when you have a reason. Even then your job will be better than 96.69% of the rest of society...youâll just be like the rest of us: entitled pro sport bitchers who donât get paid enough, respected enough etc. Things are looking up kids, and nobody owes you a thing at this point in your career...you are lucky to be here.
