Looking at the leadership perspective though, I completely see where they’re coming from sts. AFPC screwed us in the last decade and we need pilots. We need pilots badly. It’s one thing to send a subpar pilot to a single seat jet, but when you have a guy you can throw in the right seat and learn until he’s ready. The answer to the AC question is simple. He either makes AC because he earned it or he stays a copilot until he’s ready. If he’s never ready then don’t make him an AC. If people upgrade him anyway, then that’s on the community imho.2 points

I mean, you don't have to believe me, but I honestly didn't have a problem with Gorsuch, Alito or Roberts. I had a big problem with the way Gorsuch was named to a seat held open for nakedly partisan reasons, but he seems like a good guy. I don't agree with his judicial philosophy, which is largely shared by all the conservative members of the court, but that's nothing against him or them personally. I was very concerned by the allegations against Judge Kavanaugh, and especially by his demeanor during the second hearing. It's not clear he can remain nonpartisan when under pressure, his argumentative tone with some of the Senators questioning him was unbecoming, and it's pretty clear to me he was lying under oath about his drinking habits in high school and college. Those drinking habits wouldn't on their own be that problematic given his life since then, but lying under oath will always be a big deal. But, he's confirmed now, so not much can be done about all that. I still wish Kavanaugh had been withdrawn, but I hope he turns out to be a good justice. Given his age, he'll be on the court until I'm a crusty old retiree on Medicare, so fingers crossed.2 points

No offense taken. I’m a tanker instructor pilot that asked if that was an AR receptacle. That’s about as dumb as it gets. Champ, oh yeah plenty of tankers. We aren’t busy at all, the KC-46 is way ahead of schedule, the UPT timelines are being exceeded and the IFF bases are all really close to tanker bases. Let’s add more to the syllabus. What could possibly go wrong?1 point

Hopefully someone bothered to look at the feasibility of adding AR requirements to IFF. I hear our tanker force is quite robust with lots of availability on their hands.1 point

TONS of AGR opportunities that'll get you to an AD retirement. It can vary widely at the unit level, but if you're willing to do staff, etc. it's about a 99% guarantee you can have AGR orders for as long as you can avoid blowing your brains out. I know the staff stuff doesn't interest many guys with 6-9 yrs remaining until 20, but for a guy who's at 5 or less and wants to bail from AD, they'd be a great way to finish out your 20 and not be at the whim of the AD AF for another 1.5-2 assignments (and avoid the 365).1 point

Imagine the wailing that is going to occur when Ruth Buzzy Ginsberg is replaced. I'm sure Democrats have a "Weekend at Buzzy's" type plan to maintain her seat as long as possible.1 point

If your son can prove the lie after a not guilty verdict, he might consider suing for defamation. It worked for this Army Colonel who lost his promotion to 1-star after being accused of rape and was discharged. He proved conclusively that he was not even in the state where/when she said it happened, and won over $2 million. She's got a lien against everything she owns now, and probably everything she ever will. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/true-crime/wp/2017/08/11/jury-orders-blogger-to-pay-8-4-million-to-ex-army-colonel-she-accused-of-rape/?utm_term=.ac0f5735f7661 point

Damn, I would have had the same demeanor as Kavanaugh if I was being accused of the same as him. They were personal attacks and I don’t blame him for vehemently rebutting them. He’s supposedly never had any issues with demeanor previously while on the bench and I don’t expect that he will have any in the future. I can’t imagine he’ll receive any such treatment while in the SCOTUS courtroom. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app1 point

I remember switching from black boots and black T-shirts to sand T-shirts and green boots looked off in the flightsuit when the transition was going on. Brown boots and tan T-shirts will take some getting used to as well. Anything will look better than those green boots, though. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app1 point

Ya actually. Every time a 18x er says they are a “pilot” I have no problem pointing to their wings and correcting them. I’ve been stuck in drones for 3 years, the 18x product is not a pilot. It’s a glorified system manager. Do they bring a lot to the current fight? F ya they do, probably more than 95% of the current manned platforms, but do they risk life/limb? Or have the training manned dudes have? Hell no. They can’t transit frome point a to b in the AOR without having a published route, don’t get me started on system knowledge. Take that weak ass shit out of here.1 point

Sarcasm noted. However, AFWERX is not kidding with breaking shit and finding non-bureaucracy hindered solutions. They've done some interesting things so far.1 point

You can teach damn near any monkey to fly. It’s the mindset, decision making, and most importantly the ability to learn, that screening looks at.1 point

Marines will add VTOL before it's over and then it won't be able to fly within 35 miles of a thunderstorm.1 point

I can't speak for the loadmasters, but the copilot got a PCS to another C-17 base (don't know where CP is now) and the AC got picked up for a unique opportunity which he took. Its a shame because I only got the opportunity to work with him once and he was far from the "reckless cowboy" Allardick accused him of being.1 point

The pilots need to stop saying that it's not about the money because money is part of it. Quality of life is everything and money is a significant part of QOL. So are flying more, shorter deployments, less queep, etc. No one is leaving the AF at 12 years with the plan to fly for the regionals for the rest of their career, so money is absolutely a significant part. Hard to get mad at HAF for believing what pilots are telling them.1 point

You guys all realize the first post in this thread was like 14 years ago? We are at least 3 lawsuits and 4 government shutdowns away from the first piece of sheet metal being stamped out. Shit gonna change1 point

To piggyback this thought: professional pilots should be able to ID their weak areas and brush up on them. At some point every UPT student has met MIF on the basics and if they lack, then nobody is to blame but that subpar individual.1 point

Can we just make a thread where we all post our terrible videos, watch them, and then make fun of each other over a beer that weekend?1 point

No shit. Boy, it’s almost like 19 some odd years of being in the military means I don’t know anything. Thanks for the lesson. GFY.0 points
