The worst part about this is not that some snowflakes got all offended, but that the Air Force caved to them and took it down. And then put up a weak apology post...5 points

Ah yes, the syndrome of “I had to so you should/don’t care if you have to” Lines again blurred between this thread and “What’s wrong with the AF”3 points

Tucson sounds like they have shit well dialed in, and I know a few other units do as well. But, word to the wise, this is one end of the spectrum and there are other units (reserve and ANG) who have terrible technician deals. The problem usually lies with the wing and/or HRO, not OG and down. So do your research at prospective units before you dive blindly in, some are not good deals (but may still be the right short term decision to get your family where you want them).3 points

When someone in my squadron with a STRD one year prior to mine had to 3 day opt a 365, the threat became very real. That’s why I won’t accept any kind of ADSC and will be jumping ship at the first opportunity. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

It’s not about “defending the assignment.” It’s about not spreading incorrect second hand information on a platform many folks use as a primary tool to gather information. Whether advising is a good deal or bad deal depends on you. Mine is a good deal for me personally, but I’m not a 130 guy. if you have specific questions I’m happy to talk over PM.2 points

That's a vague accusation. Either the threat exists or it doesn't. You acknowledge that it exists, you're just disputing your interpretation of an unspecified individual's statement of how great the threat is. Hardly qualifies an argument that the whole board is sucking it's own c^&*,2 points

I'm hopeful that this PC culture is about to experience a massive backlash. If the momentum the "intellectual dark web" movement is gaining with people like Sam Harris, Eric Weinstein, Jordan Peterson, Dave Rubin, etc, is any indication, we'll soon be able to relax a little.2 points

"...some particularly outraged folks online said made them feel "unsafe." Yeah, welcome to the real world, there are bad guys out there. Geezus...Heaven forbid we ever have to fight WWIII, because with this PC, thin skinned, hipster latte swigging generation, we might as well just throw in the towel now.2 points

Correct, no per diem. But you do get the mileage rate if the dropoff/pickup is separate from the PCS move itself. "Allowance for POV Delivery Pick up or Drop Off. A Service member who is authorized POV transportation when ordered on a PCS is also authorized reimbursement to deliver or pick up the POV from the designated loading and unloading ports or VPC." "A Service member whose POV pick-up or POV delivery is a separate trip from his or her en route PCS travel is authorized round-trip transportation at the automobile mileage rate from the old PDS to the designated loading port or VPC and from the unloading port or VPC to the new PDS. PCS travel time is allowed and computed for the round trips to deliver and pick up the POV as specified in par. 050205."1 point

Well that man might be the hero we need but don't deserve. He's hitting his stride now, and like he was saying two years ago, this is where he'll implode if he's not as strong as the impossible situation he's been called to demands.1 point

Like Tac said, not defending just presenting the facts. It's a war, there's some risk, there's risk getting out of bed in the morning. If you are interested in FW/RW partnered advisor positions you can PM me as well with a .mil. Cooter1 point

Women, somewhat ironically, will straighten all this PC stuff out. When they sense a threat, they seek out protectors. When the nation and our existence seems threatened, they’ll be the first to demand men that defend them. The men’s attitudes lag a little, but the vast majority will adjust and go fight or risk not having a mate. IMO, it’s all just monkey group behavior.1 point

It's a good sign, but as Rubin says, it'll get much worse before it gets better1 point

Or an entire year of not constantly putting out fires, being home for dinner and tucking the kids. I know it's hard to imagine, but not everyone puts their "quals" at the top of their priority list.1 point

I am so tired of this PC culture. They literally tweeted about what they get paid for and people freak out. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app1 point

I have one of my squadrons that flies 99.9% of their sorties AFG unilateral and the others are just as capable, we partner as needed but usually for dynamic mission sets not safety related. Green on blue is always a concern but that doesn't mean people are walking around jocked up all the time (mostly). As stated, it's better to have the facts from people in the know instead or running around screaming fire. Cooter P.S. I've got FW/RW positions open if anyone is interested!1 point

Rumor alert: I have no solid source for this, but the estimate from leadership on my end is that applicants number over 350 with around the same number of spots as last year. 😖 I'm going over my app trying to see how I feel about making top 25%. I'm a pilot only with good bullets, solid (90s) AFOQT, but a lousy GPA and 2/2 strat. Wing rec helps I think. Wife got me a PSVR for Christmas. If I don't get picked up I'll buy the new Ace Combat and cry into my headset for a year until the next board. 😂1 point

You don’t know what you’re talking about. First, Afghan aviation will not fall apart as soon as we leave. It’ll be super unsafe, but they will find a way. Second, INs are no longer tasked for the deployment. Third, the requirement is going from 6 x C130 guys to 3, and forecast to hit zero soon. I know of no C130 non-vols. Fourth, copy there is a green on blue threat and thank you for the history lesson. However your characterization of the environment is misinformed despite the events of 7 years ago. Finally, I know the anecdote of an ate-up active duty commander doing room inspections on some AGR mission hackers minding their own business is emotionally appealing. But consider the possibility said AGR dudes were such disgusting slobs they attracted rodents by their poor hygiene. I wasn’t there. But I did see an AD commander on his hands and knees scrubbing piss stains off the floor of an AGR members room to clean it before another AGR guy occupied it the next morning. Two sides to every story. I don’t blame anyone who passes on an adviser gig, especially in the AGR. I’d recommend against using your third hand years old info to argue facts with a guy currently doing the task in question.1 point

F-4G flew well into the F-15 era, and was damn good at its job. It was never replaced because the AF decided that LO would solve all problems, and we didn't need EA anymore. I think most would agree that was a bad decision. Do you want to start an A-A fight with the F-35 loadout? You're right, F-35 is more than LO, F-15X is also much more than just a new F-15C. There are significant limitations to F-35 and putting all our eggs into that basket isn't perfect. Would I love to have 400 F-22s, yes. Would I love to have the F-35 able to solve all problems, yes. I disagree with your notion that there is no scenario in which I'd rather be in an F-15X than an F-35, but that is as far as I'm willing to go down that discussion. When it comes to cost, the difference in purchase cost is negligible. This is all about sustainment. The F-35 is expensive as hell, the F-15X is cheap by comparison. Does anyone really think we're going to buy 1,763 F-35s? We need some cheaper aircraft with a lot of capability, F-15X is one way to work towards that future.1 point

Stats from 2018. To beat the average, I’d say you’d want to be over 80 PCSM still and getting your PPL doesn’t hurt. Also, really check out that thread from the year before for changes/consideration issues.1 point
