  1. There is so much info people don’t know, nor will they ever.

  2. So I decided to start a new topic based on a discussion in the Bonus thread regarding the new technician/ART pay tables. As a 14 year technician who served as a technician from Jan 07-about three weeks ago, I’m happy progress was finally made, even if I’ll never see it. Some comments were made about TAG buy-in and such. But, the way I read it, it looks like it applies to multiple agencies (to include the Department of the AIr Force). Here’s the letter if you haven’t seen it: And the pay tables can be found here by scrolling down to tables 0759-0767. https:// https://apps.opm.gov/SpecialRates/2018/AllSRTables.aspx So, since it’s the new OPM pay table and not some locally concocted bonus, all of the techs and ARTs out in Baseopsville will see this in your next civ pay LES. If you don’t, you should call out your local HRO or Finance because it looks pretty cut and dry to me. Scooter

  3. How hard is it to just do both? Build a big wall then legalize all the Dreamers. Problem solved. I’ll be here all week.

  4. Ask McConnell. All hell will break loose when the TSA folks miss their first check. The can only make ends meet so much by stealing shit out of my bags, and confiscating the good stuff at security lines.

  5. The worst part about this is not that some snowflakes got all offended, but that the Air Force caved to them and took it down. And then put up a weak apology post...

  7. Depends on the practical interpretation of legalization... if you mean pathway to citizenship, no thanks; if you mean a pathway to a green card, maybe... There is a yuuuuge moral hazard to anything even remotely close to amnesty for illegal aliens being granted citizenship, if said illegal aliens have a sympathetic / no fault reason for being here when they were minors but just because your dad stole a car and gave it to you and you've been driving it thinking it is your own doesn't mean you really own it. The deal that needs to be made between Globalists/Nationalists, Liberals/Conservatives, etc. on the intertwined issues of border security, immigration enforcement, labor market saturation, social services eligibility, employer culpability, political & economic collusion, etc... is one where for every concession to one side is one where the other side gets a concession to a second order effect of the problem/phenomena being acted on... For example(s): Dreamers/DACA - Ok, Leftists get legal status (green cards) for the Dreamers but then Nationalists get strong Voter ID/Voter Integrity laws/systems as the underlying and not unjustified fear is that Leftists are trying to rapidly changing the voting electorate to ensure permanent national dominance by skewering key states in the SW USA overnight with millions of new citizens who can sponsor family based migration to again continue to skewer the electorate rapidly. Mercy & Opportunity given to a vulnerable group, Vigilance & Integrity over the political process to the citizens. Border Security/Wall - Nationalists want a wall/border security to prevent illegal and/or ill-intended crossings and to emphasize sovereignty/security but Liberals/Libertarians want an open/permissive border for humanitarian and economic reasons. Ok, give the Nationalists/Conservatives the border/port/visa security enforcement they want but then give the liberals/libertarians/businesses/politically inclined US states the to ability to sponsor X number of aliens on visas by application and assumption of financial responsibility. What is so damn infuriating to Nationalists/Conservatives is that entities like agri-business, some hi-tech industries, hospitality industries want the cheap labor of large unskilled alien populations with questionable legal status preventing unionization and agitation for better compensation but not the responsibility for inherent costs that that population will bring with them (strain on social services, criminality, disruption of labor markets, etc...). If business want unlimited H1-B visas, sure... they cost 20% per year of the alien's salary in fees to directly fund social programs for American Citizens to address the effect they have on American workers. If your worker overstays his/her visa then no worries, to get them here you posted a 20k bond to cover apprehension and removal for illegal overstay, we'll just give that to whatever local LE agency picks them up and delivers them to ICE. You (individual or US state) sponsor an alien for humanitarian reasons, sure and you fund their needs until they are self-sufficient and if they can provide for themselves, that alien can apply for a green card or citizenship. Security & Sovereignty given to a wary population, Opportunity & Responsibility given and assigned to those so inclined. Other examples are there but this method of honest compromise would be IMO necessary to begin lower the temperature, honestly admit problems/causes/solutions/costs to vexing modern problems and acknowledge (at least) tacitly that our union is not exactly strong but sustainable if we give each other space and some autonomy... blue and red states stop trying to infiltrate, warp and/or displace the economies, culture and populations of each other.

  12. I've never been this anxious on results. Not enlisted promotions or even OTS. If someone could start a support group for those that don't make it so I can immediately have somewhere to turn that would be nice.

  14. Stories of the MD-11s demise are greatly exaggerated. It is getting harder to support internationally but is still a very viable domestic freighter, especially on higher density routes (think SDF-DFW). It’s also really tough right now to get 767 or 777 production slots so even if brown and purple decide to replace the MDs tomorrow, it will be a while before they can be phased out. It’ll be around at least another decade. Probably longer if oil prices remain low.

  15. Your numbers are pretty close. Brabus is right about the flight pay, I think the old 650 went to 700 and the old 840 went to 1,000 (could be wrong). If you want to really fine tune your numbers, orders less than 30 days get you BAH type II (might be 30 days or less). At a minimum, as a part time Guard guy I get 111 pay periods a year. 48 UTA, 48 AFTPs and 15 AT days. If you become a technician then you only get 36 AFTPs. How you use your days is something of an art and may vary depending on your squadron. In my squadron we pretty much manage them all ourselves as our leadership let's us use our days how we see fit (within the law). I rarely, if ever, go into work without logging 2 pay cards. If I'm going to the base, I'm going to make a day of it and log 2. There once was rumblings of using 1/day and the part time mafia just LOL'd. AFTPs. 16/qtr max up to 48/yr. Since they're restricted quarterly I always use these up first, even if it's UTA weekend. I generally use the max in each quarter then start using UTAs to fill in the short fall. This usually leaves the 4th quarter of no AFTPs and all UTAs. Obviously that gets balanced out on years where I have a deployment. UTAs can be used anytime in the year, except while on orders. There used to be a WOM that if you were on orders for a month, you lost that months UTAs unless you had already used them. This led guys to using up that months UTAs before the orders started. I don't believe it's actually true, but I still try to use them before any known orders because who knows. AFTPs can be used on TDYs in lieu of orders (with some restrictions), however UTAs generally can't unless there is TAG to TAG approval (never have seen that in 17+ years in the ANG). AT can be used pretty much whenever throughtout the year. I usually use them for one of the many TDYs we may do in a year. That said if it's early in the year and someone else is willing to cough up ST (special training) days, I'll use those if able. That way I'll still have my hip pocket AT days available. Many years you'll see that close to the end of the FY a bunch of AT days show up. There are a few nuances with using more than 15 AT in a year, but nothing big. As an airline guy in a guard fighter squadron, I find it hard to actually use up all the pay periods available due to TDYs, deployments, the airline and actually having a life. Each month I normally work 8 pay periods in 4 days...some months more but no more than 5 days/month unless TDY. If I do get to use all 111 of them, as a major (17 years), I expect about 30K gross (min). That said, due to deployments, TDYs, etc...I've rarely dropped below 50K/yr. 2018 was a 3 month deployment plus a single 2 week TDY and I think I grossed 65k. Best of luck, I've been in the ANG for almost 18 years and I'm still learning about all the pay statuses we have available. With the exception of technician, I've been in pretty much every pay cateogry we have....AT/ST/UTA/AFTP/ADOS/AGR/ADSW. I've deployed overseas with another squadron and have sat alert with other squadrons. Even went TDY with my squadron while on alert orders with another squadron...talk about blowing finances mind!

  16. Had a Finance SSgt go above and beyond for perhaps the first time in Finance history. He just...did everything for me, and it was magical. He created my CTW worksheet for me and uploaded it into DTS, doped out my per diem for an upcoming TDY even though it had to be broken into different amounts about 69 times on the same voucher due to stupid rules, AND he told me to just email him my lodging receipts directly while I'm traveling and he'd take care of attaching them to my voucher and updating the per diem and etc. Also showed me the details of the exact schedule of partial payments that I can expect. Bravo Finance SSgt, for today you were a true American hero* 🍺 *I retain the right to revoke all praise if I'm not actually paid as fragged and in a timely manner

  23. To be fair, these responsibilities can be separate. And I feel more dudes would be inclined to stay if they were. On a fighter ANG hiring board the squadron commander asked me "How would you feel knowing that you likely won't have an opportunity to be the squadron commander due to your USMC and Hornet background, as well as your year group?" "Sir, I want as much responsibility in the airplane as possible. And as little as I can get away with outside of it." He looked to his patch, then to the third member of the board and turned to me and said, "That is the best possible answer you could've given."
