  1. Children of the magenta is a real thing.

  2. His entry sucked too. They completely shat the bed with EP 7 and 8. They couldn't stop geeking out over the original trilogy references and write a story that stood on its own. His entry wasn't so bad on its own. It was deliberately pulling those classic trilogy heart strings to get old fans who fell off after the prequels to come back on. I agree some more creativity could have been injected but overall, I rated 7 better than 1-3. Then 8 came out and it made 7 even worse. Likely because it is an extension of the same movie. If no one else caught on, 8 is the only movie that has no time skip between episodes. Every other movie was spread out over years and 8 felt like an immediate continuation of 7, which in turn, made both of them suck more.

  3. Agreed. It was a HUGE erroneous response to an upset. At the risk of speaking ill of the deceased: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by ... There still could be more to the story, but there are a few reports of the FOs skill and personality out there. When factored in with the above account, the math adds up.

  4. IMHO, that summary -- if correct -- is grossly under-playing the FO's control inputs that placed the airplane (reportedly) 49 degrees nose low. That's not just a minor erroneous response to an upset.

  5. Yes, they are. I've made far too many trips through the schoolhouse (72/73/75/76/77/78 and the POS 80) and somewhere in the process, the phrase "Leading edge devices" has been embedded in my brain. That's my answer and I'm sticking to it.

  6. Turns out there is a user for a 26 century long PED cycle.

  7. Ideal solution would be to pay the part-timers what they deserve - a full month's flight pay for maintaining qualification in the jet/mission - along with reasonable participation expectations. ROA used to fight for this back in the day, never came to fruition... If the ARC wants to keep more of it's experienced talent, I hope they reconsider!

  8. Concur. Safety process totally broken. SECRET is easier to access.

  9. 3. He neglected the most basic of multi-engine aircraft emergency procedures, destroyed a flyable aircraft, and killed an entire crew, when he could have easily brought that aircraft around the pattern at the appropriate speeds and made an appropriate landing. Hell, briefing abort criteria could have kept the plane on the ground in the first place. Hand it back to maintenance 10 minutes later and tell them to try again while you go visit the bars in Savannah.

  10. I have an issue with this. If the engine was "secured" and feathered and it says not to turn into a shut engine in the -1 and he did, that's completely on him. If he just flew straight ahead and gained flying airspeed they wouldn't have stalled. The most important part of an any EP is to maintain aircraft control. It was less than 2 minutes to impact. He destroyed a completely flyable airplane. This doesn't mitigate other factors, but that crew crashed the airplane.
